There is a hint of brightness and a bit of a breeze in Newcastle, where I am now sitting waiting for my bus home.  I have just finished the first of a row of upcoming nightshifts.  My feet and legs are aching this morning and I feel very tired.  So very much looking forward to bed soon.😴  Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all
It's breezy here too and a bit cloudy. Looks a good day for washing drying outside though with extra pegs. I do love a good fresh air blow through of the washing!

Another week..it’ll soon be the longest day … where have they all gone, so LM your comment about time until Christmas becomes more real 😩.

I thought it was going to be a good week… where’s the sunshine… not in my neck of the woods today and not as warm as yesterday!

Well I’m sorry to say but those drated slugs have already munched some of the biggest strawberries… 😤😤.

Good to hear from you RTL… I do feel for you with those night shifts you do… I’m sure bed must seem a welcome relief after a hard night…

my friend who works at Gatwick has been telling what bedlam it’s been there over these past weeks…she looks completely cream crackered and in need of some time off which thankfully she’s got next week… but not her trip to Australia which she was due to go on last week to visit her over 80 yr old sister had to be cancelled as she’d not received her passport back from the passport office having sent it for renewal 9 wks ago!!!!!
She’s been in touch with her local MP whose been very supportive but not much help,in getting it back… apparently it’s in Belfast so she can’t even go and try and get it herself… what a system this is! She’s rebooked for October now but at an additional cost….wonder if she’ll get some compensation or a sorry letter….😂😂😂.

Well better get on and organised for our holiday next week in Dorset… it’s been so long since we went away that I’m not sure what I should be doing anymore 😂😂.

I know how to get an appointment with your GP.

This morning I took my usual Lansoprazole capsule ,in a blister pack I mark with the days .
To be taken about 40 minutes before food .
I noticed that the one left was for Wednesday ,oooer! What had I done ,taken one earlier?Monday’s and then Tuesdays?
Read the blurb and it stated an overdose must be reported !
Rang 111 ,after extensive questions ,a Nurse phoned me back quite some time later .She had worked out my weight in ratio against the suspected overdose ,I had 1 mg per kilo weight ,a toxic overdose was 4 mg per kilo weight .
So that was O.K
However there might be other side effects , palpitations ,breathlessness etc.
In any case I needed to see my GP.
So an appointment tomorrow ,and a full blood check on Thursday !
The only thing I can think of is that The Jubilee weekend and after was a bit mixed up, I had to think twice what day it was , and I had started the week on Wednesday instead of the Thursday , but marked the pack as if Wednesday was the starting day , ( I think !)
I feel fine ,but how stupid !
My cunning plan to be organised  ::) ::) ::)

Otherwise all is well , as far as I can remember !
Day turned out very sunny but fresh.
Tesco delivery all put away.

Daughter phones tonight ,so latest news of FH  and  Baby Dumpling .
Hope everyone is well and getting along alright ,not mixing up medicines etc, unless you need an appointment with your GP!

Cheerio .Viktoria.

Chilly wind still here, tail-end of an Atlantic storm. Cloudy today. Weather since late last week has been sunny periods, sudden downpours and that constant wind. Wasn't quick enough to bring in laundry in a heavy shower on Friday. Also struggled hanging sheets + untangling garments caught on garden items.

I used to grow strawberries in tiered wrought iron planters which kept them out of reach of slugs.

I know what  you  mean about getting mixed  up, I stupidly did the same thing myself thinking I had taken  my tablets,  so I  chose not to take another till  the next   lot   were  due,  I wonder if I had  missed a day decanting my medication into the weeks pill dispenser, I was  OK.
Good for you getting an appt,   haven't  had what  I  call an MOT since  before lockdown, my surgery  had a good reputation but now it seems they  have  gone down and have many complaints ,  I don’t have  much confidence on them  now but fortunately  I  don't  need to see a Dr
Hope all  goes  OK tomorrow

Hope you had a good sleep RTL and felt rested enough for your next shift.

We've had a couple of very windy days so I was pleased it had settled down today. Not sure where you are Maiden Stone, I'm guessing you're in the UK. Your name would lead me to believe it's Kent but as your weather is nothing like Louisa Maud's that can't be right! Hope you won the battle with your laundry!

Caroline, could you please refrain from mentioning Christmas, we haven’t had any summer to speak of yet!  ;)
I'm sure you'll remember how to holidaymake (?  ;D) once you get going. Here's hoping for good weather for you.
What a shame about your friend's trip to Oz, the passport situation doesn't seem to be improving.

Viktoria, you do like to stir things up don't you?  ;D ;D Don't forget to go to your appointment, seeing as you went to such lengths to get one!  :D

I managed to do some gardening today without getting blown around, had to go and get another load of compost. The bedding plants are looking good and lots of perennials in flower now.

😂😂😂…. I didn’t actually start tge Christmas 🎄 theme Roobarb it was LM a few posts ago mentioning how many week it was until the ‘C’ 🎄word…. I did actually say we’ve not had summer yet… looks like it’s going to hit us from tomorrow 😎🥵🥵☀️☀️🏄‍♀️🏊‍♀️…

Viktoria… now that’s very extreme measures to get to see your doctors! Not to be recommended… hope all goes well and you don’t get a ticking off…
my OH has pills with the days on them but he just takes the first one to hand so he’s always out of sync…
his excuse he hasn’t got his reading glasses by his bedside when he gets up and takes it! Pretty poor excuse if you ask me…
but hey ho that’s his problem to deal with!

I have organisers for the week ,compartments for the different times of day .
The one I may have taken two of needs thirty to forty minutes before you can eat.
So I keep them  upstairs ,wash or bath and dress , then take a capsule .
I was surprised when I saw I was at Wednesday’s tomorrow,!
What had happened to Monday’s ?The one I had just taken must have been Tuesday’s .
Hence the confusion !

All well ,so no harm done !

Planted up some Nasturtiums grown from last year’s seeds , trailing ones so in a wall basket.

Son sent some Flanders Poppy seeds ,I scattered some where there was spare land alongside my fence in the lane, very sunny and quite a natural spot.
Well bed calls and a nice easy read book .
Goodnight .
Viktoria.

Well I have put away the Jubilee decorations and thought “it will save me a trip up the ladders if I get the Christmas decorations down now!”
So they are in easy reach, before you can say  “ Jack Robinson “ it will be here!

Must check my store of dried fruit etc. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Off to Drs today ,re yesterday’s occurrence ::)
Long overdue tests and checks will now be done ,so a good outcome really .
I think it is called serendipity ,serendipidy?.
A lucky happenchance .
Just waiting to have my brekky , and a cup of Lady Grey tea, teeth cleaned and a stroll to Drs, takes 25 mins or so.I ‘ll give it a few mins more .
Cheerio folks ,Viktoria.

West coast of Scotland, diametrically opposite to Kent. Wet & windy and usually mild. I wore a woolly hat & jacket in the S.E. facing front garden on Sunday. I would have needed an extra or thicker layer for the back garden. Felt cold in my sitting room last night even after changing a light jersey for a thicker cardie so I turned a heater on.
My name isn't place-related. It's a pun, made in stone, as I'm from generations of workers with stone on both sides of my family, up until the present. The English ancestors lived in a village nicknamed "Stonetown", the Irish ones were from Mayo "where they grow rocks", and I was born in "the Valley of Stone".
No rain forecast today, wind not as powerful but still cold. I've swapped a short-sleeved shirt for long sleeves and added an extra layer. I washed 3 pairs of thick jeans & trousers. I did them on a shorter spin as I read that difference in drying time outside in this weather is only 10-20 minutes.
I had porridge for breakfast. Porridge weather in June!

Maiden Stone, a rather different climate from SE England then! Very interesting to hear of the origins of your Rootschat name and what an imaginative one. I've tried to think of something based on my ancestry but getting nowhere with that!

I know  RB, my comment was  light hearted  but in all honesty I am amazed it is June,  have  done  more over the last  couple of weeks than  I  have for a very  long time, long may I continue and hopefully others  will venture out now that things are a little easier

Because it is my  husbands  birthday today I  thought I would take a few photographs,    picked a  nice back drop,  I am very critical about the back view, sun  very  bright so I snapped quite a few, then  thought I would try to get  a  couple with both of us, when we  got back I  looked at them, I had taken the whole  lot of ME,  how vain am I?, problem is with these modern machines is  if the sun shines you can't fully see what you are taking,  well it was a laugh so I went out again  and made sure they  were of  him and not me,  one was particularly  good

Well, not sure!
I was asked a few questions ,a very quick and cursory examination ,and told
a scan is being organised ? ???
Nothing to do with yesterday—-
Asked at the desk for another appt re something totally different and was given phone numbers to arrange that, ,but which were to arrange the scan myself!
There again for bloods on Thursday so will sort it out then.
A new Doctor who kept calling me ——  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[“ Lovely Lady “
I am totally bewildered .
Why a scan on the briefest of examinations I have no idea .
I mentioned no  unusual  symptoms ,just how my eyes play tricks especially re colour yellow. I look yellow to me ,in the mirror.
Was assured I am not yellow ,( some of the drops can cause it ) .
So at a loss , really.
Was asked my medications and was sort of reprimanded re Diuretics are not always the best drugs for  heart patients ,well I did not prescribe the flipping things myself, it was a Cardiologist .
I am starting to think she was a charlatan.

Lovely day today , ( except for the above !) and we are to get more hot weather .

Must water the containers this evening .

Posted card to daughter in law ,Birthday  on Thursday, hope it gets there in
time.

Well a nice cup of tea I think then later I will have my dessert, yoghurt and raspberries ,no sugar!

Hope everyone is alright and the weather extremes that are  forecast do no damage.
Cheerio. Viktoria.

Interesting to read some background on your user name Maidenstone, very fitting. 8) A good idea getting some profile photographic record for your husband's birthday Louisa Maud plus the bonus ones. 14th was an anniversary for us of our meeting back in 1969, we acknowledge it pretty quietly but have sometimes gone out to celebrate on milestone years. Daughter actually shouted me out to the movies last night which was very nice, a suburban theatre complex with a group of smaller screening rooms with about 30 comfy seats and armrest for your glass of wine. She hadn't watched any of the Downton Abbey series until last lockdown and did a viewing binge on demand, recorded a replay of the first movie shown on TV Queens Birthday weekend and watched it on Sunday so  took opportunity to finish off with the second movie to wrap up with new era. Thought I might catch up with it by myself possibly as I did with first one or wait until on TV, invited by friend 3 weeks ago to join her and another at our nearest theatre but I already had something that day, anyway really enjoyed company of busy daughter. I took an extra layer thinking theatres can be cool at times but was very cosy with only a few seats spare … and probably the wine!

Needing layers a bit more now and just cleaned and put away summer footwear, supposed to be around 17 degrees daytime last couple of days but lucky if we got past 15 before dipping again, caught in one of the showers predicted today on way home but prepared and glad of my jacket layer and handbag brolly. Bus slowed to stop for me as I sheltered fairly near the stop to look at rain radar on phone, spotted in time to wave on … it was going wrong way anyway but thoughtful driver. Granddaughter trialling using bus home from school for first time this week, usually travels to and from school with her mum/our daughter when she's teaching there and her dad can take her in morning but gets home later from his senior school further away. Helpful for the moment to use the bus on rural school run and stops for each child at their gate, it's too far for her to walk and no footpaths, saves mum making the trip in with baby and toddler at nap time as well. Toddler is dressing herself very creatively lately with her layers, mix of anything goes and they just go with flow around home and let her be, had their first outing as a family of 5 at the weekend. Delightful images of her just sent through and also big sister looking very smart in her sea scout uniform as she's off to her meet.

Group activities yesterday and today, tomorrow I'm going to funeral of husband of a friend, not unexpected but no less sad and the last few months have been difficult for her own health as well, rest of week have a couple of day trips in the mix.

Bit of a shuffle around in our cabinet ministers and portfolios this week, Police Minister role now going to former Education and also Health Minister, still part of Education but the pandemic has kept him busy and now a bit of freedom there but loads to deal with.

All the best for everyone, good to get checked out in person to sort things too Viktoria, not a bad tactical error eventually methinks...

It  has  been  very hot here, today we were in Bosham in Sussex sitting on a bench watching lads  jumping in and out of the water, something went "chink", I asked  my husband if his key had fallen onto the ground  through the slats  in the bench seat, he knelt down on one knee right my my side to find out what it was and some bright spark  called out  " is he proposing",  well I had to laugh and said " no he isn't  and he never did it like this over 50 years ago" , he  found a pound coin that had  fallen  out of his pocket but what quick  humour this person  had, we  then chatted  for ages ,  a pleasant  time

What a lovely touching tale LM …. And all for a pound coin that dropped out if his pocket!

I remember my OH proposing to me over 50 years ago now, we were sitting in the garden one summers evening of the local pup up the road from where I lived… at first I wondered what on earth he was doing and suggested he should get up as everyone was looking at him and I felt embarrassed even if he didn’t!
But of course he didn’t and at that point asked me to marry him… all he had on him were his keys so he took them off the ring and put that on my finger! We got a loud cheer and everyone clapped and the landlord gave us each a free drink… in those days his was a pint of bitter and mine was a port and lemon 😂😂.
Thank you for that reminder it did make me smile!

Nothing of any importance last week except last Thursday evening went out for a meal with sister/b-in-law and cousin/wife.   Very nice it was too.

Yesterday my b-in-law had his hip operation - he has been suffering a lot of late and NHS queue was daunting so eventually decided to go private.   Seen in days, op just a month after.   Says private hospital just like a hotel.   First physio today.

Yesterday afternoon visited my niece and the twins.   At one point, Darcy brought me a book and climbed onto my lap.   When Macy saw this she too climbed up and I had one on each knee.   It's rare to get both of them with an adult and Jo duly took a photo on her phone.   This morning she had a photo taken of her sitting on a swing with a twin on each knee - with things happening in three's was expecting to see another and indeed there was.   My sister popped round after visiting her hubby and the girls were so pleased to see her they both climbed onto her lap and yet another photo taken.   The girls are very different and each completely independent - seem to ignore each other most of the time so it is really unusual for them to both go to an adult at the same time.

It's my nieces birthday on Sunday and a family BBQ arranged for Saturday afternoon so something to look forward to.

Can't say I'm looking forward to Friday when it's forecast 30+C.   My upstairs flat will be like an oven.

Re "Downton Abbey". It's Royal Ascot racing festival in England. TV preview showed clips from a previous year; I thought the Duchess of Cambridge resembled Lady Mary. Some marvellous hats.
"Downton Abbey" repeats from series 1 currently on ITV3. "Grantchester" repeats on same channel, so in keeping with HM's Platinum Jubilee, I've returned to the 1950s and have been watching it from series 1.
Tuesday was ideal gardening weather, dry, not too warm, hardly any wind. Yesterday was proper summer for a change.

Weather  was really nice as was the holiday  but spoilt  by a huge hold up on M25  with  high temperatures  but we arrived  home safe, others  might  not have
First thing I  did when  I got  home was to put the kettle on and put a machine load of washing in, dry and ready to be put away now, coloureds tomorrow

Cool, wet & windy here in Scotland. A downpour in the early hours. Once again I changed my light sweater for a thicker cardigan which buttons up to the neck. Donned jacket, woolly hat, waterproof & wellies for short walk to a nearby shop. No rain during the 15 minutes my shopping trip took, nor was I drenched by a car. Presenter on "The World at One", introducing news item about the hot weather, began with an apology to anyone listening in Glasgow, on a blustery, wet day, pulling their cardigan closer around their shoulders. I prefer this weather to 30 degrees.

It’s been a scorcher here today too… up to 31C and still 20C now at just gone midnight!
Far to hit to go outside apart from a trip up to the veg plot to pick strawberries, now covered with mesh and it wasn’t slugs that had been eating them but pigeons! Well now they can’t!

I braved the ironing this afternoon with both side and front windows open in my work room, a nice breeze got up which certainly helped.

We sat outside to eat this evening as it had cooled a little and again a stiffer breeze… that’s all gone now though..

Sorry you got stuck on the dreaded M25 LM… the biggest car park in the country!

Well I hope that Bonny Scotland and the Isle of Man get some improved weather tomorrow!

We’re off down to visit daughter and family in Ealing tomorrow and staying overnight… as we sleep in the loft I’m praying it’ll be cooler or we could expire!

Stay cool for those in the heat and warm and dry for those in the chillier parts of UK!

Up early and have lounge window and patio open, no  breeze at all, slept on top of tbe bed as it was  so hot last  night, think it  might be slightly cooler  this  morning but it is early

Yes M25  ,  from where we  live to go south we have to use the dreaded M25, I absolutely hate it, it is almost  like I freeze when I am on it,  i don't  drive on it,
even yesterday's condition there are still the idiots who in my opinion take a risk, they  might only gain a few  minutes  but they could be in the next world earlier that they would  like  by being stupid and of course it endangers  others

Well it was early when I started  this now gone  08.30

Enjoy  your trip Caroline

It's probably just as well we have cool temperatures?

The annual Parish Walk starts this morning. Competitors have to visit each parish on the island - a total of 85 miles!
1295 competitors this year; "par" time is 18 hours.

I think we fared well here in North East England, yesterday was really warm but mostly cloudy so not that overwhelming heat. The pollen count was a bit too high for my liking yesterday.  Sunny today, cooler start and forecast fresher, 19 degrees which is pleasant.

Must say I wouldn't fancy an 85 mile walk whatever the weather! Here's hoping for some 'average ' weather for everyone! And some sunshine for Caroline's hols!

Well it’s cooler here today, cloudy and slightly drizzly …

Just had call from daughter … eldest grandson not well… sickness bug doing the rounds so we’ve decided not to go as we certainly don’t want to get it!

OnMonday we’re off to stay with one lot of friends for the night, Tuesday some other friends ending up in Dorset for the  weeks holiday we should have had last year but didn’t due to OH’s mystery virus! Ah we’ll plan B as had everything sorted out for food and cancelled tomorrow’s paper too!

Good luck with 85 Mike walk in any weather… obviously not for the feint hearted!

I agree with you LM the M25 is not my most favourite motorway either… both our children were at Surrey Uni in Guildford so we certainly spent a lot of time on it over the total of 9 years they were there between them!

Hope everyone has a better day today…

Wonder what’s happened to Viktoria it’s unlike her not to be posting… hope all is well with her..

Advice in extreme heat during day is to close windows & curtains on sunny side and open them on shady side.
Much better day then yesterday here. No rain, bright sun, strong, cool breeze.

When the heat arrives, the windows are closed and ceiling fans and the A/C goes on,
I think we have about two months, May and October, when neither the heat nor the Air is on.
I had a nice conversation with a store clerk yesterday who was originally from Winnipeg ( very cold winters there and summers not overly hot) and we agreed we preferred our “home climates”.

I get the Summer sun on 3 sides, so all curtains and windows upstairs are closed (especially if no breeze outside) until the sun goes down, but don't put lights on (only to brush teeth before bed), otherwise moths can be drawn in.

Then at twilight, a large fan on the landing floor (with room for me to pass in the night) facing into my bedroom draws air through the bathroom window, along the landing and pushes cooler air into my bedroom, with both bedroom openers on the vents.

Thank goodness it rained today, the road surface had been melting and few neighbours ventured out yesterday.

Good to hear everyone taking precautions against the hot weather…
I also pull down blinds part way in kitchen on the sides where the sun is strongest.
We get the sun at the back first thing then through the day it moves around the side of the house finishing up at the front so I’m constantly going round opening opposite windows to get a breeze ( if there is any) and pull curtains partially closed..  I like to have windows open all the time …
I know one should shut everything up when it’s hot as my mum did when we were living in Africa… but there we had tiled floors, ceiling fans , slatted wooden shutters and overhanging roof creating a veranda all around… sadly UK houses not built like that!

Diana your temps are very extreme must play havoc with your body temp system! Hope it warms up but not so much as being unbearable!

Today was definitely a lot chillier and the garden has had a good steady watering… which is great as we’re away from Monday until the following Wednesday so hopefully our friend won’t be coming in to water the veg plots too often!

IOM Parish Walk

136 competitors made the full distance.
Winning time for 85 miles was 15 hours, 27 mins, 15 secs.

My friend stopped after 13 hrs 28 mins (so 21:30 or so), 52.5 miles in.

Great thing about the Isle of Man, is that the whole island is near the sea. I recall going up on the tram to The Bungalow on Snaefell and it being a lot cooler, than the Summer sun down in Laxey. I use to go on motorcycle trips there late Teens, early 20s  :)  :)

The temperature here in Warwickshire is recorded through the night and even the night temperatures are ranging 66 to 68 degrees F., through the night.

The daytime temperature and no breeze outside has been far too hot to open windows.

Opening the front door has been a bit like opening the oven door of a heated oven to bend down and put something in.

So far today, sunny but cooler air  :) Yesterday was cool due to rain  :)

Wind speed here yesterday was higher than the daytime temperature. Jacket zipped up to neck over a medium-thick cardie + woolly hat to go for walk. Chilly when sun went down. Wind rattling back door at night. Turned a heater on in sitting-room, 3rd time this month. More like April weather than June. Petals get blown off flowers, some of which are at 45 degree angle & leaves from trees onto path so dead-heading, righting plants flopped on path & sweeping leaves are most frequent garden tasks.
Not quite as windy today, sunshine, 15 degrees.

I had a sense of well being on Saturday.

I was indoors and heard a "honk honk" - I scurried outside and was rewarded by the sight of a small skein of geese flying north westward.

We used to see large skeins of geese twice a year as they flew to their summer, then winter homes.  The last time geese flew overhead was about twenty years ago when they were flying south east for winter.

I spent some of yesterday helping a friend at her bookstall as part of a local festival
We were next to main stage and there were some very good young singers a gospel choir a magician and some children's dance troupe ( didn't see much of them ) .

A filmmaker acquaintance filmed some of the acts and also came to our stall and filmed me talking about ladybird books and the memory packs that I was making (years1952- 1996 )

A lot of interest but no purchases and my friend didn't cover her coats ..chdren just as interested as usual but parents tightening purse strings

What an interesting diary .....
Visited the Teignmouth Folk Festival on Saturday, a free event.
A pleasant enough day.....overcast but not cold. (Which it was yesterday with strong North winds.)
Far fewer people around in Teignmouth.
The green near the sea front is normally packed, but not this time!
We did have 3 hot days last week with light breezes. Heatwave didn't last long!!
