Title: gedmatch
Post by: Wulfsige on Saturday 18 June 22 09:23 BST (UK)
I can't upload my DNA data (from FamilyTreeDNA) to gedmatch. If I try to upload a csv, gedmatch says the file is too small and cannot really be my results; if I try to download the results again from ancestry.com I get as far as the button they send to 'confirm download request', and it then always tells me that the link has expired or is invalid (even though it is supposed to last a week, and I never leave more than a few minutes). What do you think is happening, and how can I get round these blocks?

Have you looked at your data files with a text viewer? (e.g. Notepad).
Ancestry downloads are GEDCOM format - how do you convert this to CSV?

That's what I was wondering about, too.

You need to  get a download via the download section of Ancestry, etc. and upload this file to Gedmatch.

Add - see https://support.ancestry.co.uk/s/article/Downloading-DNA-Data

I'm not sure about FTDNA but it describes it here:

ah - I see what you've done to get the csv.  You've opened the zip file.

To my knowledge, gedmatch needs the zip file.

All imports need the data file exactly as downloaded from Ancestry or other provider. It shouldn't be unzipped, opened or any attempt made to view the contents as doing so can either cause the upload to be rejected or introduce errors in your DNA data.

If curiosity overcomes you and you want to see what is in the file (nothing very interesting to the human eye) work with a copy of the data file, never the original  ;)
