Title: Caroline Adelaide Brown, died July 18, 1971, Scarborough
Post by: Peggy13 on Saturday 18 June 22 22:00 BST (UK)
I found this today and trying to follow it. Looks like parents were Joseph McCleary and Mary Ann Lennox, with their daughter Caroline Adelaide whose married name is Brown. But I don't find any of them on the 1901 or 1911 censii.

Hi,

This looks like Caroline's 1916 marriage to Avery BROWN, her full name was "Adelaide Caroline Madford Bane MCCLEARY".

1911 a widowed Mary A MCCLERY with Caroline.

Can't find them in 1901.

Daisy

Wow, you are amazing, Daisypetal. No doubt this is the correct family. But where are they hiding in 1901, since Caroline was born 1896.

There are trees online at Ancestry that say Caroline was originally Carrie Mayford BEEN,

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FMWG-5T5

and then adopted/taken in by the MCCLEARY family.

Well, that explains a lot, also the many forenames. But still, I don't find Joseph and Mary in 1901 no matter how many ways I spell their names.

I have found the death of a Joseph McCleary, Nov 23, 1900, York Co, merchant, born Ireland abt 1842. If it is him, that means Mary is a widow in 1901 as well.

I think I have just linked Mary Ann to a family I was researching a month or so ago. Parents when she married Joseph McCleary in 1872 were Henry and Sarah Lennox. Previously, I was trying to find the maiden name of Sarah who died Dec 14, 1859. Mary Ann's sister Sarah married Edward Henry Boddy Jan 14, 1871 in Trinity Parsonage, Toronto. If we can find Sarah's marriage maybe it has her mother's maiden name on it - not likely, but one can always hope. Or find the death certificate of Elizabeth Duncan, her sister, who died Mar 26, 1900. Now I am getting excited.
Thanks for your help
Peggy

When Sarah married Edward Boddy in 1871, her parents are Henry and Sarah, so still  no maiden name for mother Sarah. Want to find death certificate of Elizabeth Duncan, Mar 26, 1900,  looking for parents' names.

A previous thread on Sarah Lennox with background info..........

Find A Grave entry for Henry Lennox - All that is known of his first wife is that her name was Sarah.

A notice of his death was published in The Daily Globe (Toronto, Ontario) on 14 September 1878, p. 4, col. 8. It advises that as a result of the removal of the bridges on the Don River, Henry would be temporarily interred in the vault at Toronto Necropolis Cemetery.

Ontario death registration #018413 for York County, 1878.

Perhaps the children from the marriage of Henry and Sarah were to young to remember what her surname was when she died 1859. ?

What else do you know about Elizabeth Duncan, apart from she died 26 March 1900 ?

Does the ancestry tree tell you :- What year was she born ?   When did she marry  ? Where did she die ?

Unfortunately, sister Charlottes Lennox marriage to George Henry Beatty also shows parents as Henry Lennox and Sarah Lennox. (marriage was 3 May 1870 York Ontario)

She died on 14 December 1907 at the Ontario House (hotel) on Kingston Road, in York Township (Toronto). Notices of her death were published in the Toronto Daily Star on 16 December 1907, p. 5 and The Globe (Toronto) on 17 December 1907, p. 12.

Sadly nothing on the record for the son James Henry Lennox married 25 December 1879 Wellington Ontario. (23 trees on James)
Nothing on the death of James Lennox either to help your search - typhoid fever  :'(

Perhaps the death date you gave is not correct, it was not substantiated by the ancestry trees.

There is this entry on family search in Scarborough York Ontario - Eliza Duncan - aged 50 years - (birth date varying)
died 26 April 1900 - heart failure - invalid for 26 years. No parents names - not unexpected.

Hi Sandra, I had Mar 26, 1900 for Eliza's instead of April 26 so thanks for the correction. And thank you Daisypetal for all your help.
I will get back to you all with a theory on Sarah's last name.
Peggy

My theory that Henry Lennox's wife Sarah was nee Lennox and that is why you never see another surname for her. I have a Sarah Lennox born abt the right time with mother Esther Burns. You will notice that Sarah and Henry's first daughter is Charlotte Esther which might be a clue. There are other Charlotte Esthers in the tree. food for thought.
