Post by: carlT on Wednesday 29 June 22 12:37 BST (UK)
Can anyone identify the cap badge, first thoughts South Wales Borderers ?
But then is the badge too oval.
Second question the flashes on the soldiers lapels what do they represent
Thank you

The collar badges are of the type worn by smiths/armourers/artificers/fitters etc

Yes I think the cap badge is South Wales Borderers.

Good afternoon,

I think Shaun has the regt correct but not the collar badges. Crossed rifle and pick I believe shows him to be in a pioneer battalion of that regt. 5th and 6th battalions were pioneer battalions.

Added, The badge shown by Shaun is a trade badge, worn on the sleeve.

Wonderful gentleman, although we have no idea who this chap is, the photo was attached to one of my Grandfather also in SWB uniform and he was working in the mines up Cwm Felin around this time.
We don't think the chap shown is family
Thank you
