Title: Hit a brick wall on Hodgson family of Helmington Row, Co. Durham

Hi everyone. A friend of mine has reached out to me for help in finding her paternal grandfather’s brother. I have tried my best but unfortunately can’t find him anywhere with the limited resources I have (ancestry, bmd). You have always helped me in the past and I’m hoping you can help me once again. I have put below all the info I have to see if he can be found. His and family details are:-

Grandfather’s brother John William Hodgson born 1892/3 in Crook, Helmington Row, Co Durham

Mary Hodgson (nee Hankey) b1870 d1905

Siblings
Ernest b1894 d1965

Edmund b 1903

My friend is not 100% but John William Hodgson may have emigrated to Pennsylvania.

Again, unfortunately, there are a lot of J W Hodgsons about so all my fingers are crossed so someone can help me before circulation problems set in I will be grateful lol. Kind regards

I note he is on the 1911 census as J William Hodgson, age 18. Occupation: Putter Coal Miner. He is with the family, his stepmother is Elizabeth.

I do not see any immigration records on Ancestry or family search. As a Coal Miner it would be unlikely that he served in WW1 but I did check Ancestry for that name but no records. So below is speculation.

I did find this 1921 census on FindMyPast, which you can search for free but pay to view.

John William Hodgson 1893, Hilda, William and 3 others are on this record.
Coundon Grange, Auckland

A John W Hodgson married Hilda Prentice, registered Auckland
Q4/1914 10a 398

No deaths in Co. Durham 1914-1992 for John born 1893.

A person of that name and date of birth is on the 1939 register.
