Hi
Has anyone got access to Basford marriage records?
I am trying to establish the father and his trade of William Davis who married Harriet Dakin (both widows/er) on 23rd October 1882 at St Leodegarius, Basford, Nottingham.
It’s such a common name I am struggling to find who his parents were. William David was previously married to Sarah Murden, who died in 1878. They were living in Bilborough in 1871.
Thanks

1871 shows him b 1842 Markfield Leicestershire
1881 - Notts
1891 Bunny - Notts
1901 - Bunny
Birthyear is consistent as 1842
Can’t help with the marriage

Thanks Carole
That seems to tie in with my observations - just need to find that 1901 one!! But where was he before 1871, notwithstanding his marriage to Sarah Murden in Basford in 1865 (another marriage I can’t find details for!).

Thanks all - i now think I’ve found the family group in 1841 and 1851.
In Markfield in 1841 - William Davis, wife Elizabeth, sons Thomas and John.
I’ve also spotted a non conformist baptism in Bunny in. 1846 with a birth date for William in 1842 with family from Ratby (near Markfield).
In Keyworth in 1851 - as above incl my William and another son Richard
Assuming this is the right family, I now need to find William and Elizabeth’s marriage, their deaths and their baptisms!

The above child I believe died between 1837-39. The John who appears in 1851 census is aged 12=c1839. There are birth's for a John Davis 1839 with mmn Copeland, and a William 1842 mmn Copeland.
On the 14th November 1836 a William Davis married an Elizabeth Copeland, St Martin's Leicester.

Thanks John
In 1841 a Thomas aged 4 and a John aged 2 are with William and Elizabeth in Markfield, so it looks like the Thomas you found is still alive and fits.
Thanks also for the mmn and possible marriage. Can a suitable entry be found for Richard, born abt 1846/47 in Keyworth to support this marriage?
Thanks

That's a problem at the moment. The only Richard Davis I can find in the Bingham reg district that covers Keyworth has a mmn Hall. I wondered if William snr had been widowed between 1842-45 and married an Elizabeth Hall but cannot find a marriage that fits.

Mmmm - it’s not proving straightforward is it. I can’t see a baptism for an Elizabeth Copeland in the East Leake area either to help with that.
If Martha is theirs then she must have died between 1845 and 1851 too as the family are in Keyworth without her in 1851 sadly.
Thanks also Carole for that 1901 reference - found it!
