Can anyone tell me in simple terms :o how to add a picture so that it shows next to your profile when you add posts to a topic. I have tried all ways but just can't seem to do it.
:'( :'(

Hi Sue,
First open a post and at the bottom you will see additional options. Click on additional options and then browse until you find your image on your computer. Open your image and it will appear on the attachment. Post and your image should appear on Rootschat. That is the first step. The image can only be a certain size.
Second when you have the image on a posting, right click on the image and you will get properties including the address of the image.
Right click on the address and copy for pasting. Open your profile and paste the address into" I have my own image".
Hopefully it will appear.
Good luck but I suspect that you will require a few attempts.

Audrey, your image is too large. It is 324x428 pixels and needs to be 120/130x120/130 pixels. You must reduce the size before proceeding. If you dont have a programme download IRFANVIEW which is foc and easy to use.
When you have the correct size right click on the image and open properties. Here you will have the address of the image which you can copy for pasting.
Go into your profile and paste the address into "I have my own image". Click on modify profile and exit Rootschat. Re-enter and hopefully your image will be there. Good luck.
Regards
Geoff

O my God its took six months to get this far but I will see what I can do

Newbie

how about this one

I think what you have to do is to click on the picture you want (i.e. above in my post) and then save that to your desktop.
then when you want to modify your profile, do as Geoff says,
click I have my own image and then browse or past in the address.
Good luck, (this from one who has never bothered!)

Golly, thank you all for that. May I introduce you all to Grandad, veteran of the Gallipoli campaign - here in his Home Guard uniform.
-
Hi RuthieB's granddad, meet my granddad, Celestine.
He fought in Flanders, Belgium, in WW1 and survived two years in the trenches and sent home after receiving a shrapnel wound from a German mortar bomb. I've no idea what regiment he was part of.
He lied about his age to sign up and resented the army for not telling him his mother had died while he was away fighting. They were close. To make matters worse, he was the youngest of 9 and only ever found his eldest sister when he returned.
I'm eager to complete his search...
-
I keep trying - one day I may succeed!

Looks as though you managed!! Well done!!

Thank you Tanja
I have now put the page in my favorites, why it keeps disappearing is a mystery.Others had the same problem. If it goes again i will see if i can in my little yellow fella peeping over the wall. Never had a problem with him, but how do i go about finding him again.
Because i had him for around twelve months, and i have lost my website address book.

trying to get picture into my profile - please be patient with me!
-
Its a bit big! and in wrong place. Now what do I do?
-
Now what do I do?
now you need to resize it (about 120 pixels wide.)
see Topic: Adding images to Posting & Profiles #2
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,130922.0.html
Good luck,
Bob
-
Hi Maggie :)
Re size it, say around 350-400 . Do this in what ever picture viewer you have .( irfanview or Adobe)
If you just resize one side the other will alter with it.
Save As (Whatever you are calling it)
Place it on the post as you did with the large version.
If it is the correct size, copy shortcut and open up " my profile" Rootschat profile information. There is a space to allow you to paste the link (Back to the little picture) it should then appear on you posts.
Hope this is clear ::)
Patricia :D
-
try again!
-
thanks everyone looks a better size now
-
Re size it, say around 350-400
Sorry, but ..... No, not 350-400 pixels !!
Please keep all profile pictures around 100-120 pixels wide.
The bigger the piccie, the more needs to be downloaded everytime you select a page !!!
I know this is getting technical, but sometimes the crests (in KB, KiloBytes) take up more space than the replies on the topic :(
Bob

Help -why have a got a little red cross instead of my pic?
??? I've resized to 82 x 130 pixels - I think
-
Hi Maggie,
the address of the crest (above) is
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=86443.0;id=12270;image
the address of your profile pic is
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action+dlattach;topic=86443.0;id=1270;image
looks like you missed a '2' (should be 12270, not 1270)
Almost there :)
Bob
-
that was careless of me - I've changed it to 12270 but still have the red cross :'(
-
Did you remember to click on "Change Profile" at the bottom of the page ???
You may have to log out of RootsChat and then log back in before it takes effect ...
-
Bingo!! I'm up and running folks. Thanks Bob, Patricia and anyone I've missed. I think it looks quite splendid and the ancestors would be proud - however I doubt they every knew they had a coat of arms!!!!
Regards,
Maggie

Hi k-b-c,
check out this topic:
Topic: Adding images to Posting & Profiles
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,130922.0.html
- first "crop" the unneeded white bits
- then resize it to a width of 120 pixels
- then attatch the new pic to a reply here
- etc, etc
Have a go yourself, but in case you have problems, I've done the first three steps and attached the image here.
Good luck,
Bob
-
I think the previous above posts show why RootsChat deserves to be the success it is, without detracting from it's founders, it is the members inter relationship, along with the ready acceptance of greeting newbies, and the offering of advice and knowledge, give youselves a pat on the back,. Bodger

Thanks Bob! I managed it!!!!
