Title: Diary Summary week ending 7th August
Post by: Caw1 on Monday 01 August 22 08:01 BST (UK)
I thought I’d start off this new week as I’ve not been around for a while…

Another month begins …. Where has this year gone ..
A warm day again with no rain on the horizon for my area… we had a few drips yesterday which did wet the soil and patio but soon dried up!

Today I’m going with some friends to Ely Cathedral, I’ve been before, but we’re going to see an exhibition of ‘Gowns & Crowns’ from major films and tv that have been filmed in some of UK’s majestic Cathedrals.

Last week we had my daughter and grandsons to stay for the week, we had a great time with lots of fun and laughter and we were on the go the whole time!
Whilst we love having them here returning to our normal peace and quiet life was joyful!

Hope everyone has a good week and I look forward to catching up again.

Caroline

That sounds like a very enjoyable trip to come Caroline; hope you will tell us more about the exhibition after you have been.  Glad to hear that you had such an joyful time with daughter and Grandchildren when they came for a stay recently too!

I don't always manage to keep up but belatedly just want to comment that it must have felt quite magical when you got to see a Mother and baby sparrow so close up recently, Robarb.  Such a thing doesn't happen very often and it does feel special when it does. :D  I will never forget the time when a little robin put in appearances at the bus station and another time when a lovely little fox walked by me in the street and I wrote about both events on here.  This type of unexpected closeness to nature can really brighten the day and is something we never forget.

Yesterday, I felt extremely fatigued.  I went to Church.  A bus was approaching as I neared the stop but I had no energy to even attempt running so caught the next one.
When I got there I had to sit near the front again as there weren't many seats left to choose from.
Usually, everyone stays and chats after the service but I couldn't summon any energy to be social so I  headed to the toilet area and then just quietly slipped out through a side exit.
Bought a few food items at a shop.
Fell asleep for a few hours in the afternoon.
Feeling a little better today but still drained.  Will have to pull myself round as I have a run of nightshifts coming up midweek.

You've certainly had a busy time Caroline, good to hear you enjoyed it so much. The trip to Ely cathedral sounds fascinating, looking forward to hearing about it.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so wiped out RTL, perhaps it's been triggered by your getting stressed by the situation with the seagulls. It's amazing how much your mind can take things out on your body. I hope you soon feel better.

Are you sure you are fully recovered  from covid, my neighbour normally a strong person isolated  for 14  days, came out on Wednesday and is very lethargic, not like her at all, do  you  need some sort of tonic?
You have,   apart from covid had a few stressful  days, so  look after  yourself

Roobarb and LM, I'm not sure exactly what the cause is; work is very tiring at the moment, so that might be it.  On Saturday I was up at 5 am because I had an early start time.  I had been awake long before that though because the gulls are quite noisy.
By tea time, I had a feeling of going into a slump and just kept telling myself to keep going and it wouldn't be long till home time.  Thought I would feel better after sleep but felt so drained and exhausted on Sunday.  I did consider not going to Church but then thought I would probably regret not going later if I didn't go.  The greeter on the door said she would find a seat for me near the front and asked if I would like to sit next to "Ruth".  I said "Yes" but felt in a bit of a fug about who 'Ruth' might be although I knew her once I saw her.  I almost felt like I was sleepwalking yesterday.
Shame I was very unsociable afterwards and just slipped out.  The prospect of conversation just felt like too much effort and I had a feeling of having nothing left to give - overly dramatic as that sounds, but I did feel quite depleted.  Hopefully I can make up for it next time I can go.
Fell asleep yesterday afternoon.
I have wondered if it is an after effect of covid but I have never heard of anyone being reasonably alright energy wise then getting an after effect of being wiped out exhausted a few weeks later.  ???
Thankfully, I am not back at work until Wednesday night so hopefully will pick up a bit more stamina  by then.

Although I haven't  succumbed  to Covid i believe it affects people  in different ways, as I said my neighbour and a friend were very tired afterwards and don't forget  you have returned to full-time work
One friend who had it last week is out and about already, I have made up my mind I will  not see her for 2  more weeks, I am  not taking any chances.
Everyone is quiet today.
Not everyone is registering they have covid on the NHS site so the true figures out there are not represented

It certainly is the gift that keeps on giving.  :( I suffered badly with post Covid fatigue but that was immediately afterwards. Although I recovered my sense of taste and smell after three months it's only recently that I've been experiencing distortion of smell and taste, apparently it's quite common for it to develop later but like you RTL, I haven't heard of such a thing with the fatigue. But who knows, it's certainly a strange beast.

LM, you can only report test results to the NHS if you've used one of their tests, if you've bought one elsewhere you can't report it to the NHS. The statistics are no longer compiled from that data, the Office for National Statistics calculates them from the results submitted by volunteers who regularly test. That gives them a picture of the levels by population.

Have not been on this board for a while.
I return with bad news.
On July the 12th my family were called to Waikato Hospital to be told my youngest son had 1 maybe 2 weeks of his life left.
This came as a shock as we were under the impression he was in remission. He had not been in remission since January and did not want the family to know.
P passed away 2 weeks later at Hospice. (26 July). He was only 35yrs young.
His funeral was held on Saturday 30th.

The loss of your son is a tragedy Carol. I’m so sorry that you have to bear this.

I remember you telling us about him a while back. Such an awful thing to happen to you and your family.

RTL - I agree with those who have suggested that your tiredness is probably related to covid. It does seem to affect people quite differently. Your taxing job and long hours are not conducive to a full and quick recovery. Take quiet time and rest when you need to. Don’t push yourself and don’t feel guilty if you need to opt out of certain activities or events. I sure people will understand and be sympathetic.

Take care.

Carol, some words of comfort which a dear friend sent on Nick's passing and which , I admit, has brought tears to my eyes as I write this.

You can shed tears that he has gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray thet he''ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he's left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you cann be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him only that he's gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he'd want
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Moving words, Jeff.

So many tears for younger lives cruelly shortened before their time :'(

Apologies in advance for this contrast in addition to my post and deliberating whether I should include, not meaning to be insensitive at all to any dealing with so many factors that can dictate the span of a lifetime, but a little in line with the celebration of life in poem.
I had just been reading an obituary of a woman of 110years a few days ago when I came across an article in the paper that she was NZ's oldest woman. Resident of NZ since aged 13 with her widowed mum and older sister but born in the UK, father killed in the war when she was 5. A lovely tribute and commemoration of her life by her son in the report, and had amazingly lived independently until aged 107 years.

NZ has opened the borders to pretty much as they were before the pandemic, as has Samoa. Delegation of our parliamentary leaders have gathered over there this week to commemorate 60 years of signing the Treaty of Friendship with Samoa.

A tropical and warmer break as well away from our winter and many choose to do that with Pacific destinations over the cooler months, very nippy Sunday night and snowing further south.  August kind to us in the north temperature wise so far, 3 days in, with mid teen temps for the days and not too cold overnight. Very warm for my walk home today via the botanic gardens, reading as '17 degrees, feels like 19' and I appreciated my cool drink when I got in. Was nice to see the sunshine and the early signs of Spring in the gardens, a bit less spring in my step end of the longer hike.

Carol, I'm so sorry to hear your news.

Tired again after work this week but better than last week.

RTL post covid fatigue can have a delayed onset.  Google pacing to help you get through it.  Of course it won't help if work is extra busy and the warm humid weather IME really doesn't help.

Cold, strong wind, showers & sunny intervals here in SW Scotland. I reckon there was more rain during one night this week than in the whole of July in the south of England.

Very hot and humid here, was supposed to feel like 43 at warmest, not there yet, but pretty awful.
Have been fighting a cold since Friday, did the Covid test twice, negative both times.  Nothing serious but the added heat doesn't help.
OH did play baseball yesterday, he is okay, in fact he made five hits.  He bought some strawberries, locally grown (I know it's a bit late, not sure why) so I made a cake this time, much better than the store bought ones.  It was really an upside down cake without the fruit baked in, it would have ruined the strawberries I think.  I told my daughters I will make an upside down cake with peaches when I visit next, hopefully within a couple of weeks.

How hard to lose a child ,it is not the right way round is it.
Look after yourselves,he would have wanted you to live your lives to the full, not be sad ,I am sure you are thankful you had him for as long as you did.
Happy memories to treasure.

Son still here ,but working on his computers most of the day.
I can’t cook for two!
We are eating rubbish !

No date as yet to visit Flash Harry and baby Kyra, the school holidays are nearly over and I have not visited. !

RTL, sorry you feel so tired as Pharma said ,Long Covid leaves you totally drained.
Try Vitamin C.
D is a good pick me up too.

It is strange too how a nasty experience can shatter you both mentally and
physically.

Lovely day today , and I killed another vine weevil beastie!

Hope all are well ,and look after yourselves.

August 5th international traffic light day

Aug 6th is the feast of transfiguration in some churches ..I wonder what it means .

I'm intrigued by traffic light day. I'm tempted to walk to traffic lights on main roads, push buttons and walk away. People who can't be bothered walking a few yards to the crossing at traffic lights  and instead walk into middle of a busy main road from town irritate me.
Feast of the Transfiguration commemorates the occasion when Jesus was praying on a mountain and Moses and Elijah appeared beside him.
https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/the-transfiguration-555
Raphael did a painting, reproduced on Vatican stamps.

Today we have choices of celebrating watermelons, beer, Georgia (European country or U.S. state?), and Makira-Ulawa Province Day (Solomon Islands). I would have chosen watermelons and Makira-Ulawa. I like headdresses worn by residents of the latter. I won't be wearing a floral headdress though; I noticed tiny caterpillars on inula flowers yesterday and remembered there were a lot of similar caterpillars last year.

Maidenstone

Thanks for the explanation of transfiguration day
I was imagining Jesus transforming and couldn't imagine .

I too am intrigued by traffic light day ..made traffic light biscuits at school once .

I thought the opposite and would give traffic lights a rest and not press any buttons but let them change naturally
I only recently discovered that there is a button under the.box that turns to show blind people when the lights have changed ...as the beeps can be confused with motorbike indicators

Here's a sisterly greeting in Swedish for
tomorrow ( from my Swedish sister )

"Tro på dig själv, lika mycket som du får mig att tro på mig själv!" 💕😊

It means  "Believe in yourself, as much as you make me believe in myself!"

And I forgot to mention that August 7th is also "preposterous packaging day "   who makes these things up .
I've got a flamingo watering can I'd like to post to a friend ..that would need preposterous packaging!

High on my all-time list of preposterous packaging is a pair of rubber gloves. I opened the packet to find that they were displayed on a rigid plastic frame; the reason for it baffled me.

Belated happy Yorkshire day, did spot that at start of week on previous thread.

1 August was also International Scout Scarf Day, more aware of it as miss 8 granddaughter sent a photo of her happily wearing hers when she went off to school having just 'flown' up to cubs with her Sea Scout group.

Seems now to be days for any and every 'occasion'
preposterous packaging could be any day, certainly numerous occasions that warrant it!

Corker day here, or as mum would have said "glorious" , out and about getting some lovely country air and views on a work trip and visit to favourite op shop, adding some sea air at our picnic lunch stop. Tide was half out and so many kingfishers going about getting their lunch  :)

One of husband's brothers must be making most of the day as well, staying a couple of nights at their late dad's place alongside us and expecting him from the north early in day to set himself up, probably the golf course was a better proposition.

My nephew who was blind went to a residential school, their sports days were unbelievable,  to roll overs in a canoe and races, one master would run in  front with a whistle if it was a relay race and the pupils would follow him,  my nephew also did orienteering  at the school, walked  from   Sevenoaks to Buckingham palace, also road on the circle line dressed up to collect money  for a blind charity , he  seemed to have no fear but life got the better of him and he sadly died  last  year

Something a little different, sent by our d-i-l in Bega NSW.  Happened on her way home from work (midwife at the Regional Hospital).
I have all these brave friends who save wildlife and check pouches of road kill wombats and roos. Today it was my turn.
It was a little more epic and involved than normal because this little fella is so big he should be out of the pouch by now, and was so hard to get out- at least 7 months and healthy. And his one white paw means he's extra special

Taken him to WIRES (Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (AUS) where he will be looked after before sending him back into the bush.

I’m loving the Commonwealth games and the full integration of the Paralympics into them. One minute you’re watching a differently abled event and the next an abled event. The swimming events were amazing. Plus the weighting system they have for eg the discus where different disabilities can compete in the one competition and then a points system works out where they’ve come distance wise plus their different disabilities. How they do discus on prosthetics etc and keep their balance is amazing.

Jeff, thank you so much for the photo of the gorgeous wombat - they’re one of my favourite creatures. I’m sure this one will be well cared for before sending him on his way.

They are unique animals (reverse pouch and square poos) and so so cute to boot!

If you are able to, watch the documentary “Wombat Boy” https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4167654/

Yes those athletes and indeed any disabled people amaze me.
How positive they are and how they help others is an inspiration.

Well ,what a day!
A month ago my eldest son advised me to take out an ISA with Nationwide.

So I transferred some money to a different account with TSB,one which I could get a bank draught from them to get the ISA.
I was also advised to take an existing ISA with Lloyd’s and transfer that to a new ISA with Nationwide.
This was July 6 th.
Since when I have heard nothing.
I went into Lloyd’s to ask and surprisingly the old ISA was still with them.
Hours of waiting at Nationwide to say about the ISA still with Lloyd’s ???
Was assured “these things take time “
So waited nearly another week, phoned N/wide yesterday, told to be patient ,
back today and waited and waited ,eventually a real live person!
But ,they could find no paperwork ,no Banker’s draught ,nothing to say the ISA was in place ,and no record of the banker’s draught!!!
I have a receipt but it says “ cheque” ,I am to phone Bolton branch ( why..) and Bury branch tomorrow. ….?
They have used my old address, not lived there since December 2016
Very worrying , not sure if my insurance will cover that.
I got so angry, why should I phone ,their mistake !
So I phoned The Police ,not sure if I left it too long I could not claim .
They will phone me tomorrow.
My son was a bit unhappy about the banker’s draught, felt it ought to have been made out to Nationwide, but was overruled!
So what a day ,mind you I had my trousers on back to front yesterday !

I can’t tell black from navy ,got a clean pair ,navy, label to the back, then chucking them in the washing last night ,realised on that pair the label is at the front ,so did not find that out until last night!!!
I have to put B or N on the label in marker pen .
I mean, it would not do for me to have black pants with a navy T shirt!
I had to resist the urge to walks backwards all day!
It is a good job I did not get run over or someone might have tried to turn my head round ( as per The Fivepenny Piece ,Oldham Folk Singers )
Oh,someone turn the clock back please.

Off to bed now, or else I will be up very late watching Morse.
Viktoria.

Yes that's worrying when money involved and hope you get peace of mind and sorted with that.
Dark navy and black distinguishing an issue I have with a few items in basic gear, always have to hold one up against the other. I also had to laugh with the trousers as I did it myself only today with a pull on pair of warm knit fabric pants, no tag in back or front only one lower on side though I should have noticed the raised seam wasn't down the front but didn't until I went to put a hanky in the pocket some hours later  ::) Odd sort of day in a way one way or another with comings and goings round here, lawns are looking ship shape having been done today.

Sort of keeping up with just highlights of the games, been a good few for NZ, certainly as you say inspirational with disabilities in the competitions.

You have every right to be proud of your nephew and of course your granddaughter, LM . I hope you have some nice photographic record of her special achievement and of you together at the graduation along with the memories of being part of her day.

Well done your d-i-l Jeff, quite something of an epic delivery to remember as described, great closeup of the big baby and showing the different paw which will be so recognisable when watching any progress, not sure if WIRES gives updates on that.

Having started this weeks diary I’ve been woeful in further posts!
It’s now hard to catch up and comment on everything that’s been posted so I’m not even going to try 😢.

Monday was an enjoyable day with friends visiting Ely Cathedral and the Gowns and Crowns exhibition there… not many people so we were able to have a good look at the exhibits and feel some of the fabrics..😱.
They ranged from the TV show The Crown to Young Victoria, The Kings Speech and lots more. All beautifully made and fabrics chosen were interesting. The one that stood out the most was the Queens coronation dress worn by Claire Foy… from a distance it looked very real… on closer inspection the designs were printed on and then beads to represent the pearls, diamonds were stuck on.
Having seen the actual dress on display at Buckingham Palace which was breathtaking to say the least this one was a very good copy indeed.
The most stunning exhibit for me was the Bog Oak table that was on display…quite a stunning piece!
I don’t know how to link a web site but for anyone interested just put in to Google
Thefenlandblackoakproject.Co.uk you will be able to see it and read about how it came about.

my OH decided to surprise me and we went away for the night on Wednesday to Kent, on Thursday (our49th wedding anniversary) we visited Hever Castle… it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to go to for about the last 50+ yrs and he always said he’d take me….  better late than never 😂😂.
I’ve always been bonkers about the Tudor era and as this area was near where he lived as a boy he knew it well… having spent a week at 15/16 doing his Queens Scout expedition the place had left a lasting impression on him…
It was a wonderful day and the castle didn’t disappoint it having been renovated in 1903 by William Astor..
the gardens were wonderful too,we were amazed that the rose gardens looked so good with an abundance of flowers and not a droop in sight! Testament to the gardening staff.

Well after the weeks excitement it’s back to normal now with the mundane!

Take care all, and thoughts with all those who are in need of special thoughts..

Caroline

Oh dear Viktoria, what a worry, hope you sort it out

Yes, you still keep your humour going

I am going on a trip to Hythe tomorrow, the local bowls team are playing and they have spare seats, I don't play, was there a few weeks ago but the game was cancelled, they chose to go on from Hythe to Dymchurch, although we went and had a look at the train we didn't have time to ride on it, not sure how long we will have between drop off and pick up after the game tomorrow but it will be a ride out

Funny old day, keep having these strange days , sunny, comes over cloudy and nothing happens, still no rain, it isn't so hot today, but a bit humid in between

I was going to teat myself to a foot soak today but I don't think I have time,

Not a lot going on here, so will wish you all a nice weekend

Were there any artefacts to do with Anne Boleyn.?Hever  was her childhood home.

I have ridden on the little Railway ,a lovely journey, way back in about 1968..Took the boys over onthe Ostend /Dover  ferry for new shoes - no width fittings in Belgium.
Winter outfits etc.

Funny day, sunny ,then  violent showers ,then sunny again.

Policeman called re the lost cheque ,lost by Nationwide, I said NATIONWIDE .just in case N A T I O N W I D E ,They are cheeky beggars ,making me do all the phoning!
He said it is not fraud as yet , but if no documents are produced ,they can go in to the branch and view the CCT cameras, honestly,I would have had my hair done had I known we were on camera,!
Policeman also phoned my son, the one who was with me at the time, and said it all to him.Why I don’t know, anyone would think I was forgetful .

So as yet I am not too worried,.
What I am not worried about I can’t remember!
So that is OK,I think?

Great excitement today ,Brown ANDGreen bins emptied  AND ,a roll of food waste bags left on Brown bin.

Shopping tomorrow , might have chicken on Sunday ,whatever I cook will have no taste.
I don’t know how I brought up the son  here at the moment but his choice of vegetables is limited and we had variety when he lived at home.
Green beans ,but has just said he does not mind sprouts, those are the only ones he seems to like.
I showed him a carrot the other day ,but he went pale!
He will never grow up to be like his Daddy, who was 5’7”,perhaps a tad more (this son is almost 6’.)
My two grandfathers were tall ,my Dad just 5’9” but father in law was only 5’6” .
I am 5’2” and shrinking fast.

Well the big metrolopops of Rammy tomorrow, Not sure I can stand the excitement ,what lost cheques and Rammy, too much all together.

Hope all are well, and looking after themselves.
Cheerio,Viktoria.

Speaking of stunning, that bog table, oh wow! Looks like a project that your son would have liked to be part of. Very beautiful. Thanks for telling us about it.

Claire Foy was Anne Boleyn in "Wolf Hall". I recall her last scene was imagining herself back at Hever. Was that in the TV adaptation of "Wolf Hall"?

I am going to completely  change the mood here

My next door neighbours have a dog, talked about it before, the 30 plus year old adults living in the house are supposed to be looking after it, it is now gone midnight and the 30 year olds are all out and the dog is howling and barking, my husband has put his good ear to the pillow and is soundo, me, well I am not soundo I am wide awake and wound up, goodness knows what time I will get to sleep, the parents although leave the dog don't leave it for this length of time, I am moaning here but that is as far as my moans go as I don't feel they are approachable although a few months ago she did mention the dog and I told her how it behaves when left  for a long time,  but I did it nicely, you should be able to leave a dog but not to carry on the way it is at this time of night,

I am off on a coach in the morning as I said earlier, I will be asleep if this carries on for much longer

Viktoria, hope you sort your banking problem out, despite the worry  you still bring in your humour.

It is unbelievable that in 2 days time we start a new dairy with 14th August on it, time is flying by

Take care

A note through the door might be an idea LM. Specify times of barking and howling tonight while they have been out enjoying themselves. The note will be waiting the family when they return. Don’t be too polite though.  :)

LM not nice for you at all. If you know the neighbours well you could enquire in person when the full grown ups return if their dog is better now as you were concerned it had hurt itself or something on X night as it was barking into the small hours? That way it sounds like it's a welfare concern for the dog.

An anonyomnomnymous call to RSPCA might have some effect ,others will
hear it ,not just you .
You do an important job and need your sleep.
You do have concern for the dog ,so not just self interest.
Be bold!
Best of luck.

I posted on the 26 July that I’d made it to Switzerland. I was having a lovely time until Friday 29 July. I was crossing a road in Interlaken  and nearly over when something hit my rollator side on and I was flung to the ground. The police came and then an ambulance and I was taken to the local hospital. I was scanned and xrayed and then the cuts on my face were stitched up. I remember the doctor saying one had 11 stitches. I had cuts on the inside of my elbow as well. I now have some spectacular bruises.

A police and arrived and said it was someone on an e bike and that they were on the phone when they hit me. I had to make a statement. Then I was admitted to the hospital where I stayed until Tuesday morning when I was discharged and set off home. The hotel were I was staying packed up my belongings and brought them to the hospital.

I left at 9am and 4 trains later was met at Liverpool at 21:30 and driven home. It’s a positive nightmare sorting everything out especially as my glasses were broken in the accident. I can’t fill in the insurance claim yet as I can’t see it but have sorted the hospital charges out with the ehic card. I had to pay for the ambulance but that will go on the insurance claim. There’s all sorts to be claimed for.

So sadly my longed for holiday was wrecked by some e biker. I think the reaction has now set in and I’m absolutely exhausted.

In case you’re wondering how I’ve typed this I can manage with my broken specs for short periods.

Oh my goodness Gibel… 😱😳. I’m so sorry to hear about your dreadful accident whilst trying to enjoy a long awaited holiday..
These e- scooters are an absolute nightmare and they really have to do something about them in every country!
I do hope you’ll be feeling better soon and hope you’ve someone to help whilst you’re trying to get to grips with insurance firms etc.

LM - I have every sympathy with you and barking dogs at night time… or any unsociable time frankly.. I think an anonymous letter would at least stop anyone thinking it’s you..
We have a night time barker round us and it’s often the dog fixes barking that sets someone’s dog off… not yet discovered whose it is!

Viktoria- like others have said your humour is wonderful despite the current situation you’ve got with the Nationwide! 🤞it gets sorted soon.

My OH is currently having issues with Eon … our energy supplier… our smart meter had a severe wobble a while ago so OH phoned to tell them but they had no appointments for someone to come and look at it…
We’ve now discovered they’ve stopped our direct debit… only found this out when he went onto their website to put in a meter reading…
Spent all morning the other day trying to speak to a human but got pushed around by constant choose this or that option.
Finally sent an email and had a reply back just talking about setting appt up for smart meter and no mention about other issues… like we’ve not paid a penny since April!
We now have 5 days before our current tariff expires and can’t seem to speak to a soul!
Watch this space I think….😤😤

Re our visit to Hever Viktoria and you asking if they’ve anything belonging to Ann B they had her prayer book… book of hours absolutely beautiful, a replica of a clock given by Henry and some embroidery from the era.

Ruskie - you’re right my son was enamoured with the big oak table I sent him lots of pics!
He’s just finished a very long worktop and a side drop for a couple who’ve just had a house built.. it looks beautiful!

Today has been a warm day again and looks like next weeks creeping up into the 30C again!
Take care everyone

Caroline

Sorry a much wanted holiday was ruined, hope you are soon 100% Gibel

Well, just popped round to lovely neighbour with her treat ( a chocolate sundae)
She had her trouser leg rolled up, I was shocked, her leg was maroon to mid shin from just above her ankle just like a maroon sock, it was hot and she said itchy .
My first thought was Phlebitis ,a clot.

I did not alarm her but left a note in the key box , an inner box is opened by a code ,the evening carers came and saw the note ,I explained my concerns .
They went in and as they were leaving I asked could I do anything,  - No it was ecxema .I said I was worried it was a blood clot causing Phlebitis .
They did not know what that was,I explained a clot caused it,they said they had not seen a clot ——- I explained it would be deep in a blood vessel, they said well I could not have seen one either!
I asked had they spoken with her daughter?
Yes,and she thought it was eczema too.
I could do no more but will write it down.
Those people are paid for  an hour ,but were there seven minutes after
me speaking to them.
Oh dear , the state of things !

Well what a funny old week it has been ,what with Nationwide! Lovely neighbour , etc.
I keep telling myself I am not in the Ukraine or Afghanistan ,so shut up and get on with it!
Swedish meatballs, mixed vegetable rice and a Ratatouille sauce for tea .
Easy Peasy ,sauce from a batch I froze some days ago.
Cheerio everyone.
Viktoria.

Oh Gibel, what an awful thing to happen when you'd been having such a lovely time. It does sound like everyone was very helpful after the accident, I hope the police catch the culprit. I hope you start to feel better soon and can maybe get someone to help with filling in the forms.

Viktoria, that does sound a worrying situation with your neighbour and quite worrying too that the carers didn't take your concerns seriously. Surely they should at least have called the NHS 111 rather than ask her daughter (who I'm assuming isn't medically trained). Not sure what I'd do in that situation.

LM, I sympathise re the barking dog, I know you've had issues previously with the neighbours, it's difficult to know how to handle it when they're so unapproachable. Hope you managed to get some sleep and had a good day despite the disturbance.

Caroline, your visit to Hever Castle sounds really interesting. I'm not very good at history but I did remember that Ann Boleyn had lived there. A fascinating character despite (or perhaps because of) her short life.
Title: Re: Diary Summary week ending 7th August
Post by: Gibel on Saturday 06 August 22 23:33 BST (UK)
Thanks Roobarb, although the cyclist didn’t stop at the time, the policeman who came to the hospital after I’d been stitched up said that the cyclist had been to the police and admitted that it was him and that he was on his phone. At least that’s what I understood. I had to make a a statement and in some respects it was quite funny as I used simple English to explain what had happened. I didn’t know what or who had hit my rollator. The policeman translated it into German for the form and then translated it back into English to see if it was what I’d said. Apparently it was an electric bike. I have received the police report which I need to have translated into English for the insurance.

Actually I feel worse now than when I was in hospital. It’s all the sorting out to do for the insurance and being minus my specs is a nightmare. I have some old reading glasses but normally have bifocals. The new ones will be ready on Friday. I can’t drive as no specs and the local buses are on strike so I’m dependant on friends and taxis. I just feel exhausted and sad about my wrecked holiday. Then I tell myself that it could have been worse but it doesn’t really help.

I suppose some credit is due to him for owning up although I must say if I was in your position I'd find it difficult to be anything but angry. We can only hope he's learned his lesson.
And what a time for a bus strike, just when you need them. I do hope you feel better soon.

What a dreadful thing to happen to you Gibel. I know they are increasingly popular but I think those e scooters should be banned. I think you were very brave taking yourself off on holiday with your health issues and to have this happen on top of everything else is rotten. I hope all your claims go through smoothly, and you recover quickly.

I think your neighbour is lucky to have you Viktoria - it seems that you care more about her health than anyone else, although there are limits to what you can do.

Title: Re: Diary Summary week ending 7th August

Rough for you Gibel and with better luck the insurance claim once you've submitted the form will be smooth sailing, not that it's really a compensation for the ordeal you've been put through and ongoing nightmare of what was to be an enjoyable escape, good to know the care and followup though in a foreign environment was very helpful.

Not easy to block out disturbing noises at night, sound of a dog in distress upsetting whether inside or outside and probably isolation anxiety and we hear one quite nearby occasionally during day, you're probably making up for lost sleep now LM after being tired on your day out.
Unfortunate too not to have readily approachable neighbours, we all need ones like Viktoria I think! Understand your concern Viktoria, also regarding the rapid visits by those paid to call on her.

Congratulations on your anniversary Caroline, and a very nice treat indeed. We had a clip on TV here, around the time of the Jubilee, showing the black oak table and about the project and just amazing.

Younger sister and her family are isolating, all except youngest have tested positive as she had the virus a couple of months ago and didn't manage to share it around with them then. She's been jokingly put on dinner duty, only 7 but will be doing her best to look after the rest I'm sure.

An indoor Sunday afternoon now with some light rain setting in and started as forecast overnight though had an OK clearing for a few hours to do a bit out in the garden. Airport will be relieved it was just wet this morning and not the dense fog they had to contend with 3 days in a row, fog hanging around several parts of the city until late morning each day but barely noticed at home and sun appearing early mornings. Think possible more fog overnight, otherwise similar to today with periods of showers and 17 degrees.

Good Morning Folks
A nice morning here, sun out but not quite so hot

Had a really enjoyable day out to Herne Bay yesterday, arrived about 11.30, had lunch in their really nice fish and chip shop, mooched around the shops then decided to walk to where the to  railway starts, didn't realise it was such a long walk , we chatted and laughed and it went quite quickly, saw one train go out after chatting to the staff  and watched the next one coming in and turning on the turn  table, waved to the passengers on both trains,   then walked back promising ourselves next time we would take the trip on the train, then met up at the bowls pavilion to meet up with the players, we only went to fill up the coach seats, non players, a very enjoyable day out arriving home about 7.45, I didn't nap on the coach either after losing almost a nights sleep with the wretched dog

I was still awake at about 03.30 and then must have fallen asleep to get up at 07.00, the parents must have arrived after O3.30, I have decided not to say anything about the dog, will bide my time, I don't want friction with them, my husband who stayed at home said he only heard the dog once yesterday, well of course he did, poor dog might have been hoarse or tired , I am a very peaceable person to be honest and never fall out with anyone, yes, I am an idiot but as I said I will bide my time

Gibel, I am so sorry your holiday ended so badly, I really don't like these scooters and avoid them, although don't see many of them locally, see many parked awaiting a passenger, there should be a law in place to be quite honest, in my opinion they are very dangerous, I wish you well with your recovery, keep in touch and take care.

Looks to be a nice day here but hopefully not to hot,

Enjoy your day folks before we begin yet another week

What a lot to do Gibel, I am having to do a lot re the lost BankersDraft
( Draught?) ,infuriating -but at least in my own language ,
And I have not been injured either.
I am an honest person and would not cheat but having been told by Nationwide to log any expenses etc, I might take a taxi to Bury tomorrow !
No number one son is coming for me ,perhaps his fuel to and from Bolton.
Number two son in computer conference so he stays here.

It is really wrong that the injured parties have so much to do, you need compensation for a ruined holiday and be careful not to minimise injuries,I don’t mean lies but some things don’t manifest themselves until a while after the event. You need professional advice.
I hope you feel better soon and get it all sorted quickly .

Lovely morning here, must contact daughter, her Husband has a lot of back pain, treated as disc trouble but scans show scarring in the ureter ,he had stones a while back.

Well son still abed ,so I will do a tidy up and vac when he is awake.
He needs his sleep.
Lemon and thyme chicken for tea,I hope he can put the   LandT butter under the skin- yuk- I hate doing it.

Perhaps a drive out today ,I would love to go to the local Dog’s Rescue ,but might come home  with something!

No date set for a visit to Flash Harry and baby Kyra,  and school holidays fast going by.
Until my son’s plans work out I am here.

I must speak to neighbour’s daughter tomorrow.
I have no idea if there has been a Dr’s diagnosis of ecxema , or if just her opinion.
Can’t do anymore .

Look after yourselves folks and hope all are well or at least improving.
Not heard from some who had health problems ,for a while .
You are not forgotten ,do keep in touch ,it doesn’t bore me for one, I am very thankful I have not your problems to cope with .
I need a reminder to count what blessings I have ,from time to time.

Cheerio ,and thanks for the news.
Viktoria.

Gibel so sorry to hear about your accident
I've been thinking of getting an electric scooter for a while .young neighbours let me try theirs and not only was it terrifyingly fast but also I couldn't lift it when folded
So I LL go for the push variety it will still get me places faster quieiter and good for environment and if I get tired or dizzy I can fold put over shoulder and go on bus . I'm annoyed that the bus pass age has risen again 65 I think

I used to have a Moped, we lived far from shops and my OH would phone and say he was bringing a business contact home for dinner!

So a quick dash to the Supermarket with little girl in a seat with leg protection.
OK in flat Flanders. In hilly Ramsbottom it struggled, did have pedal boost but really hard up steep hills.

I loved it though in Belgium it gave me freedom to explore and visit friends.
There were cycle paths so not in the main traffic , below certain power you could ride on those.

Just to say everyone it was an electric bike (ebike) not an electric scooter that hit my rollator and flung me to the ground.
