Hello,
I'm trying to find information on my great uncle Robert John Allen.
Robert John was born May 11, 1902 in The Grange, Loughgall, Co. Armagh:
I have found an outbound passenger for a Robert Allen aged 22 in March 1926 out of Belfast, from Tullygarden, Richhill, Co Armagh aboard the Alaunia. The incoming record into Canada indicated he was headed for Toronto (subsidized passage paid by the Ontario government).
This is all I have been able to find at the moment, when he left the family home to travel to Canada the family never heard anything further from him, we don't know if he stayed in Toronto or move on.
Thanks,
Denise

Sandra
Hi,
Yes, this is the family.
-
Can't instantly see him crossing the border Canada to the USA. No death record on the USA social security index.
Sandra

Excellent RK. :)
I think we can now say he is not our Irish Robert.

There is another one who died in 1998, but he was born in 1912. Married to Mabel. FOund their marriage notice - Robert John's father was John Allen of Unionville.

Checked Service Files of the Second World War – War Dead in Canada - 1939-1947- no record of a Robert John Allen.

Toronto Directory for 1929 - the only Robert J is the tinsmith who lived on Kenilworth.

Same in 1928...

Would have needed a change of occupation from Ireland - farming - intended occupation farming according to the passenger list. Quite a common name as well which is a shame.
Sandra

Yes...it is too bad the name is quite common. He could have gone West, to the USA or to another location in Ontario.
The 1931 Canada census is going to be available next year. Maybe that will show some leads??

I'm thinking some of his family kept in contact!
(Ignore the typo of "poated" instead of "posted" !!)
-
Also, in case you don't have it, his mom's passing:
(And cudos to *Sandra* for posting the census, so I had names to compare with!)

Excellent bbart!!
Obit for Robert J Allan in the Toronto Star 29 March 1961 pg 48.
It says he died at the Rosebank convalescent home on March 26 1961. Robert J Allan (formerly of Woodview Rd North), Rouge Hill, Ontario. Interment Erskine Cemetery.
The funeral home was in Pickering. So is the Cemetery.
Spelling is Allan in the obituary.

Thanks RK!
And wow, he was pretty young to be in a convalescent home... that's sad. :(
Hopefully something else turns up to see if he had family here.
-
Oh wow. What genealogy stars you are, bbart, that is fantastic. And RK, great stuff finding the obit.
I was thrown off the track by the mother Sarah, one ancestry tree said she died in 1945, so that was a needle in a haystack.
Well done both of you. Fabulous.
Sandra :)
-
Ooh la la, so well done. :) :)

Hi,
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has looked at this, it is really very much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi,
Canada Voters List, 1957, Pickering, Ontario
Allen, Robert, cement finisher, Rouge Park
I'm not picking him up on any other voters lists'.
These particular lists are alphabetical, and there are 2 other Allen's on the 1957 list, but I don't think they are related.
Allen, David, labourer, R.R.2 Pickering
Allen, Mrs. Marilyn, R.R.2 Pickering
