My uncle has two DNA matches on Ancestry descended from Sarah Ravens born in Essex in the late 1700s/early 1800s.
Both the matches have Robert Raven b 1755 in Great Coggeshall and Sarah Ife b 1776 in Inworth as their respective trees but that is obviously wrong.
In the 1851 census, the first Sarah lists her birth place as Earls Colne in 1801. By this time she has married William Galley and had at least 4 children.
In the same census, the second Sarah lists her birthplace as Terling in 1799. She is married to Daniel Bright and has had at least 7 children.
I've found a baptism for what I believe is the 1st Sarah in Coggeshall in 1801 with the parents listed as Robert and Sarah and also her marriage to William Galley in 1819 in Earls Colne so I'm fairly sure that she's the daughter of Robert Raven and Sarah Ife.
For the 2nd Sarah I have the marriage to Daniel Bright in 1820 in Terling but no baptism so any hints would be gratefully received.
TIA,
Richard

The 1819 Marriage has witnesses, James BROWN/Ann RAVEN
Groom/Bride/Witness 1 signed X
The 1820 Marriage has witnesses William RAVEN/James BOREHAM
Witness might help untangle this :)

On the same page of the 1841 Census for Daniel/Sarah Bright is ;
William Raven 35
Rebecca Raven 30
Eliza Raven 9
Rebecca Raven 8 mths
1851 William Baron (Raven) is born c 1801 Gt Coggeshall, Essex
1861 c 1802 Terling

Mary Raven married James Boreham in 1821 Terling

Just found that also she was a widow.

Thanks.
I believe Sarah Raven 1 had a sister called Ann but she would have only been about 15 at the time of the marriage. Do you thing she would have been a witness?
I guess William Raven could have been the brother of Sarah 2. Several people have him in trees on Ancestry but no one lists his parents. According to these trees he married Rebecca Marshall in 1824 and had several children. However, I cannot find any of them in the GRO index to confirm the mother's maiden name.
According to Google maps Coggeshall and Terling are about 11 miles apart which seems like quite a jump for me when describing ones birth place.

If the family moved to Terling when the children were young it is possible that they just assumed that it was where they were born.

Could I ask why you are concentrating on these two Sarah's ?
James Raven and his wife Sarah have a daughter Sarah baptized Coggeshall 3 August 1800,
the family then moves to Earls Colne, where they have James 1802, Ann 1803, Mary 1805,
So this Sarah might say she was born in Earls Colne having moved there before she turned 1

Have you checked the Congregational Church in Coggeshall on Stoneham Street?

That's interesting. I can't find that baptism in the Ancestry indices.

OK, thanks to all your help I think I've made a connection. Not sure if it's the correct connection but here we go:
Sarah 2's father is James Raven b 1767 in Rivenhall. His father is William Raven b 1712 in Witham and his father is William b 1687 in Rivenhall. His brother is Jasper Raven b 1676 who is my uncle's 7 x great grandfather.
Not sure DNA matches should go that far back but that's the best I've got for now.
Thanks again,
Richard
