Title: Diary summary week ending 13th November
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 07 November 22 14:36 GMT (UK)
Good morning  folks
Hope everyone  is well today despite the lousy weather

No  doubt  you have heard me mention my birthday during the week!!, well the icing on  the cake was that my daughter took my husband and myself  to Teignmouth to visit my twin brother, we stayed in Exeter on Friday night and  my daughter and her family went off to do their own thing whilst we travelled to Teignmouth   to visit my brother by bus, he had no idea we were going , his face when we arrived was an absolute picture, he never asked how we got there, we had a good story to cover up our daughter was in the area as well, later on we met up at a local Greek restaurant  with my family, he had no idea that we were all going to be there, his face once again a picture , was a lovely   evening

I have had an absolutely fabulous week and been thoroughy spoilt by friends and relations, back  to earth with a bump and back to normality, as my brother lives some 250 miles away I have no idea when I will see him again, both octogenarians now !!

I won't mention my birthday again,  till  next year  !!!

Louisa Maud

Glad you had a good weekend LM.

I have spent most of the day in bed, feel like I should apologise.  Night shift last night.  My first after being signed off night shift by occ health for a while.  Was supposed to have a few twilights to ease me back in but got pushed into it.  Went in to find out I was nurse in charge, there were 8 ambulances queuing to get into A&E which was full, the air ambuance was on it's way, we didn't have full staffing but had 2 cohort rooms, and the CN had left a large to do list with a warning to have it done or else.  Did take a break but not until 5am.  Didn't take the full break entitlement so makes up for it a bit. Slept from the back of 10 to about 12:40 when I was woken by the gardener coming to cut the grass.  Rearranged the washing i'd hung up when I got in, just to get it dry quicker.  Broken sleep again from 2 pm about 430pm.  Back in tonight.

Happy to hear about your birthday celebrations, LM, your family thinks highly of you, and rightly so!

Still in bed with intestinal bug, think it might be improving (touch wood), I did have some toast and tea for lunch.  Have some applesauce at hand.  The BRAT diet!  Can’t stand bananas though.

LM, I'm so pleased to hear that you had such a fabulous birthday week. What a kind and thoughtful daughter you have!

Hope you feel better soon, Diana.

Sorry to hear you are working under such pressure Pharma and have not managed to get a good sleep.  Hope things go well tonight.

One of the elders at our Church gave the sermon a couple of weeks ago, I think it was, and during this he gave a personal story of having to take his elderly Mother to A & E recently (it turned out she had a broken arm).  He said the waiting room was full and waiting time was meant to be about 6 hours but they ended up waiting for 11 hours!!  He said his Mother was crying with pain and was offered some paracetamol by another patient.
I don't often sleep too good either but I did have a reasonably good sleep the other week after eating pumpkin seeds.  We had some pumpkins at work for decoration and  I cut these up and gave this to the cook to make soup.  The soup was very nice.  I found out by googling that you can also eat the seeds so I gave these to Cook as well.
Cook said, I don't think anyone will want these but you - they'll say it's bird seed.  I said, you never know some people might be adventurous.  Cook said, I doubt it.  It turned out Cook was right and no one wanted this but me so it was put in a bag for me to take home.
Bus at the station was very late that evening and I got bored so I opened the bag and began chomping on the seeds.  A bit chewy, but alright and apparently these are full of health benefit nutrition.  I'm trying to eat more healthier now as I recently found out my cholesterol is up a bit.  I'm afraid I did get a bit slack with things during covid but I am going to try to make a better effort now.
Anyway, according to the internet the seeds are also a natural sleep aid and I did get a quite a good sleep that night.  So maybe it is true .. or perhaps I am just very suggestible. ;)

RTL, did you eat your pumpkin seeds fresh - straight from the pumpkin? As far as I am aware they need to be dried first. You can do this yourself by just leaving them to dry naturally. Generally I buy pepitas already dried and hulled. They are nice to eat and have many uses but are popular in salads   and muesli.

Your shift sounds gruelling Pharma - that sort of situation seems part and parcel of being a medical professional these days, sadly.

Your tummy upset seems to be hanging around Diana. Daughter’s dog had a tummy upset over a few days. Made for interesting walks around the neighbourhood, but I won’t elaborate.  ;D

Your birthday ‘events’ sound wonderful LM, especially the visit to see your brother. Glad you enjoyed your week.  :)

Post by: River Tyne Lass on Monday 07 November 22 23:28 GMT (UK)
No, I didn't eat them straight from pumpkin, Ruskie.  These were washed, put in fridge and Cook cooked in pan next day after soup was made.
Don't know if it would have been better to bake in oven as they were a bit on chewy side.
No one was willing to try them but me so I ended up taking these home in a bag; ate most of them at bus station.

Perhaps there should be a huge nationwide drive to recruit more NHS staff.  I get the impression things are very stretched from what Pharma writes, and what the Elder said in his sermon about an 11 hour wait in A & E.  I was so shocked by that, that now this is all I can remember of the sermon! :-\

Oh I see LM. I would say, yes, definitely the oven would give you a better result.  (or you could buy them ready to eat). They’re quite tasty.  :)

Post by: River Tyne Lass on Monday 07 November 22 23:40 GMT (UK)
Yes, I think I must look out for these ready to eat.  I think they are meant to be good for cholesterol too.  I felt very virtuous sitting chomping on them at the bus station that night.  My doctor would be proud of me I daresay, if only she knew. ;)

It looks like they are not called pepitas in the UK, not in Tesco anyway, but I found this:
https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/266387140

I can’t tell by looking at the picture if they are hulled or whole.

Good idea to make up wee sachets of your own trail mix to have in handbag for delayed trips home etc, the ready to eat pumpkin seeds are usually readily available here, either packeted or in bulk bin self serve and smallish green and smooth looking ... not chewy and good on own or to add to other things as Ruskie has said.

Wonderful that you and your brother were treated to a get-together to celebrate the joint milestone, LM  8)

Punishing and demanding schedule on little sleep PT !! and interrupted at that. All the best with moving that bug along Diana, not nice.  Miss 3 while here was still harbouring whatever it was she had, she was quite active but still a wee bit off and quite a 'snotbox' which meant avoiding taking her anywhere else and not ready to go back to kindy yet and has only been about 3 times so far. Daughter said the kindy have noticed that the little ones seem to be taking longer to shift common viruses since the long periods of isolation, much more so than previously so perhaps immunity a bit compromised. Miss just on 6 months also needed a bit of help clearing nose but not too bad, on verge of 2nd tooth breaking through, mummy had to keep her with her on the couple of errands she did manage to fit in. Granddad duty helped keeping miss 8 occupied, a work visit to airfield and showing round hangers etc Thursday, morning tea with our younger daughter at school where she teaches on Friday so aunt and niece could briefly catch up and he enjoyed it too. Lots of craft and walks with me and plenty to keep occupied here. S-I-L said only he and one other were wearing masks on plane, mostly outdoor events where he was officiating and that all went OK and then the return home.

A round of washing and picking up on Monday yesterday, just a couple of items they left behind for us to take up to them in a couple of weeks, always something  ;)

A funeral today, several members of Tuesday group attended as well to support another member and friend with family loss just a few days ago, deceased was long time member of the community and known to us all along with several generations of extended family and it would have been his birthday today. A lovely service celebrating his life, has been sick and in care but with all family participating in farewell including his  great-grandchildren, was truly a fitting send-off.

I heard some good news yesterday that a friends daughter had passed whichever course she was  doing and it now means she can start her nurses training. So hopefully one more nurse might be there in a few years to swell the ranks!

Don't know about others  but it is a thoroughly miserable day again and chilly

PharmaT, you don't need to apologise for being in bed, everyone needs a reasonable  night's sleep and nurses in particular who work long hours, so don't feel guilty, your time is your own.

RTL, it was my son in law who suggested my birthday trip, but then went and spoilt it by saying whilst he was in Devon he would spend some time surfing, he is a keen surfer, but that was OK by me as we did our own thing  till  we met up.

Candleflame, congratulations  to your friend who will  now become a nurse

RTL,  I don't sleep very well so think I will  buy some pumpkin seeds and give them  a try

Diana , hope you are feeling better.

Hope everyone is feeling ticketty boo despite the weather

LM

Well, that is good that your Son-in-law had the idea which set things in motion.  It sounds like you and your Brother had a brilliant time. :)

Let me know if the pumpkin seeds improve your sleep.  I don't know if it was a fluke or if I am just suggestible that I got a better sleep that night.
I think I should probably buy some more rather than wait till next halloween to get a good nights sleep again. ;D
One thing which is a bit puzzling is that the label on the bag of seeds shown by Ruskie shows these are high in saturates but yet I have read these are meant to be good for cholesterol.  Wonder how that works?

Hope you're feeling better soon Diana.  Just be careful, some of the new covid variants present as gastric symptoms.  Anyway, make sure you stay hydrated

RTL, I feel very much that I have to apologise.  Have you seen what people are saying about nurses?  That we're lazy, irresponsible, uncaring, cruel, murderers, genocidal, big pharma shils, evil, torturers.  I forgot to explain that when I took my notes with me on my break so I wasn't lazing with my feet up doing nothing while getting paid as apparently we do.  Although I wasn't actually getting paid as we don't get paid for allocated breaks whether we get them or not.  And I only too 40min of the 1hr 20 we're supposed to be have per shift

pharmaT - my apologies for this - BUT why do you feel you have to apologise to RTL or anyone else?  YOU are doing the job which you chose to do, and from what I read, you ARE doing a good job.  I certainly could never have committed myself to the tremendous task of being a nurse (I was a secretary, when employed, so definitely no comparison).  I did work as a member of the Department of General Practice at Manchester University for some years - no comment about the behaviour of some of them when an accident occurred outside the building  :-X

I cannot recall RTL ever decrying your efforts to do you job and bring up your daughters at the same ti

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, stop hitting yourself.  We are attempting to SUPPORT YOU

I think I see what has happened; I think you have confused me with Louisa Maud who wrote:
'PharmaT, you don't need to apologise for being in bed, everyone needs a reasonable  night's sleep and nurses in particular who work long hours, so don't feel guilty, your time is your own.'
No matter though, I agree with what LM has written.
It is my understanding though that everyone has the utmost respect for NHS nurses.  I think it takes very special and dedicated people to do such work.
I agree with BumbleB that we all want to support you.
It sounds like you work extremely hard both at work and at home and I think you are probably under a lot of strain and stress. However, please be assured that you and other nurses are very much appreciated for the work you do.  Please try to believe and accept that people do not think badly of you.

Thanks for well wishes about my health.

Somewhat better, not completely done with it, but am feeling hunger pangs, so must be improving. Per your suggestion, pharmaT, took a Covid test, negative, thankfully.

OH off to physio, so took dog out into backyard.  Didn’t the little monkey dash out the door after lunch when OH went to take garbage.  Safe back there, but if the neighbour has a dog visiting, all heck would break loose.

OH been busy mulching leaves, there has to be a million of them.  He’s exhausted now, so will get the dog out next.  He just received his new cell phone, so happily occupied.

Stay well, everyone.

There are times when we all have to accept some constructive criticism, from the right sources and make apologies if in the wrong. There are also many critics who make it their business to find fault, many of them armchair critics calling the shots on anything and everything and unfortunately those who are in the public domain are probably more open to receiving it. Not easy to totally ignore that range of accusations perhaps PT, but do try, if you are keeping up best practice in the workplace for your job description then that is all good and proper IMHO and it seems you go above and beyond at times with your efforts along with pressures of home life.

Exams for senior students started this week, without restrictions of the past 2 years  ...

Sorry to hear that LM and I echo Ruskies comments about your recovery.
I thought I’d escaped it too having taken things very carefully and had all the jabs etc, but I got it in July this year when members of my choir started dropping with it. I only had a very very pale line on the test and I wasn’t poorly with it , but isolated myself to protect others. Husband didn’t get it……
It’s a very sneaky bug .
Stay positive and hold onto those happy memories from the weekend.

We have all been OK till today, my son in law  worked at home all week, no idea where we caught it, wonder if it is in the air  but good old fashioned sea air didn't help, so far my daughter and grandchildren and my brother in Teignmouth are all ok

My neighbour  had it in June and was very ill, I just feel as if I have a cold, had all the jabs so perhaps that has put me in good stead

I'm so sorry to hear you've caught the virus LM, particularly after being so careful. I can understand you feeling angry when you've put so much effort into avoiding it all this time, I felt the same when I caught it. Having had the vaccinations will afford you some protection against serious illness, I hope the symptoms stay just cold- like.

Sorry to hear you're not well LM.  Hope you're feeling better soon.  Plenty of fluids and paracetamol up to 4 times a day if sore and/or feverish.  But most importantly, plenty of rest as overdoing it when you start to feel better appears to increase the chance of long covid, resting applies to the next few weeks even as you recover so pace yourself.  I've seen people feel a lot better day 4 or 5, over do it and end up floored for a few more days.

Good advice Pharma,  and so sorry LM but glad you enjoyed your Birthday treats before Covid came along .
Hope all stay well .

I have not been posting for a day or so, Apple would not accept my security code for updating.
So felt really miffed!
All sorted now so I am very pleased.

Well, I got mixed up big time today!
Have worked hard to get on top of jobs prior to my eye op on 11th——-
Transport arrived today , I said they had the wrong date .
BUT, it WAS today, what a silly old thing I am ,when I get a new appointment
is anybody’s guess.
I sent the transport away!
Oh dear, the Old Folks’ Home beckons.

Did a lot in the garden today, Rudbeckia! It is now almost on a par with Himalayan Balsam. ,

Strange that people with I think the requisite numbers of boosters etc are falling ill with Covid.
Hope no one else succumbs.

Cheerio everyone.
Viktoria.

What a stink memento of your special week LM ... and you are still doing all the right things of course by accepting isolation and some care and rest but do understand annoyance of your bad luck. Almost certainly cases go unreported because of the inconvenience of it all, however much others are inconvenienced by that! Good wishes for bouncing back quickly and for your son in law in his recovery too.

No, Viktoria is not  ready for the old folks home , she seems bright and breezy, I think we all have memory lapses, I have told myself to check the date every day just in case I get asked  by a Dr or a nurse but to be honest how many of us remember every day's date after we retire,  I just keep tabs on week endings and that is due to the diary

I am  more worried about my son in law who hasn't had any jabs, but he has an underlying problem

My problem with the memory test they appear to do is the ‘count back from 100 in 7’s’. I just can’t do it but my then 93 year old dad did it no bother. I have an issue with numbers- basically I’m rubbish at numeracy, but I did pass my level 2 numeracy at the age of 50 [ failed O level maths all those years ago). I’ve been trying to learn by rote 100 minus 7 etc, but I can get 93, 86 and that’s your lot. So whilst I might recall the address they give you and the prime minister, I’d fail the number test!
Title: Re: Diary summary week ending 13th November
Post by: Ruskie on Thursday 10 November 22 02:07 GMT (UK)
I’m the same candle flame - completely useless with numbers. I call it numerical dyslexia, but I think it’s called Dyscalculia. I can do basic sums though, but would never be able to count backwards in 7s!  ::)

We have rising numbers of covid cases here, and they’ll only be the numbers which people have bothered to report. Apparently the XBB strain, which is resistant to vaccines and antibodies from previous infections, and emerged in Singapore a few weeks ago, is the latest, and now makes up more than half the cases of covid here. Though unless they test each one for variants I don’t know how they know this.

Still we’re advised to continue to get vaccinated. On the one hand saying that the new strains are resistant to vaccines and on the other hand advising people to get vaccinated, doesn’t make much sense and I’m sure people will think “why bother”. Here there have been four vaccines (3 boosters) offered so far - and likely to be a fifth offered soon, being the “new” bivalent one.

I don’t think most people here care much any more.  :-\
Title: Re: Diary summary week ending 13th November
Post by: pharmaT on Thursday 10 November 22 03:22 GMT (UK)
You're right it is dyscalculia, I would just tell someone you have it and ask them to use a different test.

They work out percentages of cases being which variant by fully sequencing a proportion of PCRs samples taken.  You're right though that throws the figures off as it can miss a new variant especially in the early days with only a few cases if those are not the one sampled.  Also if anything like us and PCRs only happening in percentage of hospital patients then it is less likely to pick up any milder variants and delay detecting worse variants until enough are hospitaliised since it's unusual to be hospitalised on day one of infection
Title: Re: Diary summary week ending 13th November
Post by: Ruskie on Thursday 10 November 22 07:42 GMT (UK)
That method of determining which variant someone has is probably the same here too Pharma. I wouldn’t even know where to go to get a PCR test these days. A few months ago when a negative test was required for international travel, a negative test had to be produced before boarding. Very few places did them even then, and the cost averaged over $100.

Good to know that you can refuse any tests involving numbers.  ;D

Very tired today, body feels heavy, and my head is fuzzy.  Slept from 0930 to 1300 when I got home yesterday.  Then I slept from about 2100 to just before 3am.  Got up for a but then back for a couple of hours.

Collecting my younger daughter at 1pm for an appointment so I need to get some energy as need to get the house cleaned from top to bottom before then as back to day shift tomorrow.

It is sad but I would say necessary ,that Nurses are taking action re the hours ,relatively low pay for the skills and dedication that are expected and given.

That dedication has held them back in a way , but it ought to have been recognised and rewarded without nurses being pushed into strike action .

I hope they get a fair deal , the ridiculous pay of say professional footballers as example is obscene by comparison .

Completely agree Viktoria, it's all very well showing our appreciation by standing on our doorsteps clapping during the lockdown but it's time the government recognised their true worth to us. It's not just about pay, the whole system needs a shakeup so that nurses are not going home exhausted after too long and gruelling shifts. But while they're looking at pay they might also like to consider the hefty parking fees that staff have to pay at hospitals. Also, I believe nurses have to pay £120 a year to keep their nursing registration. I'd be interested to know if any other professions have to pay similar charges.

On an entirely different note- let me start off by saying I'm a big fan of the money saving expert and I value his advice. This isn't a criticism of him, more a warning to be a bit cleverer than me!

This week's MSE newsletter contains advice about energy saving, a topic very much in the news at the moment. One of the items said "Is your fridge and freezer too cool? Fridges should be 5°C, freezers -18°C. If yours are lower, you're wasting energy."

I duly went and checked my fridge, I had it set at 2 so I whacked it up to 5. When I took out the olive spread today it was anything but spready. On checking the handbook for my fridge I read that 5 is the coldest setting. Silly me.  :-[  It's back down to 2 now.

Most professionals have to pay for registration.  Doctors are registered with GMC, pharmacists with GPhC, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics etc are with HCPC.  All have some sort of revalidation which usually involves work in your own time.  I have heard that I earn £36K (I don't), even heard I earn £45K (definitely not) and other wild things like 25 hr min  and much higher we don't.

L.M.Vitamin C and D are great pic me ups .
As has been so sensibly advised ,don’t rush things or recovery may take longer with more side effects .

Yes Remembrance Sunday but of course the 11 th today ,I need shopping but will wait  until  the two minutes silence at 11.,well at 10-55.

A dark dull day but quite mild, I might get down to our town’s new War Memorial.
Look after yourselves everyone.

That's very good to hear that you haved picked up today LM.  :) Sorry to hear your daughter now has this too, I hope her symptoms are only mild ones.

My diary:
Had a phone appointment with the doctor yesterday.  It was over an hour late as the doctor had been so busy. I'd had to have a follow up blood test as no one had told me that the first one should have been a fasting test.  However, it was found out from first test alone that cholesterol is up so I knew that second test would likely only confirm it.  This Doctor seems very nice to talk to and has a warm and friendly manner.  I will make a note of her name and if I ever need to go to the surgery for anything I will try to see this one.  Anyway, upshot is I will now be on statins and iron tablets.  I am quite relieved about the iron as I have been feeling so tired and worn out for so long.
Went to the chemist this morning and obtained these meds.
Outside the chemist bumped into a lady from Church and ended up having a long natter.  Then off to the library and found what looks like a really good advice book called 'Lower Cholesterol' by Catherine Butterfield.  Ooh! It looks really good .. easy reading and lots of bright, colourful pictures, diet advice and recipes.  I think I will enjoy looking at this.
In the library, a staff member came up to me and asked if I would like to have a free tea or coffee and some biscuits.  I asked "What's this in aid of?". She said that they are trying to do their bit to keep people warmed up this winter.  That's nice.  I thought straight off I wouldn't have a biscuit but then I over ran my time looking at the books so ended up having no time to have the free drink either.
Next off to Newcastle to meet up with Sister in law.  Always nice to see her and chat.
Fenwick's have their Christmas window on display.  Wasn't sure what this was based on this year but I googled and apparently it is something to do with a 'Clarice Bean and Think Like An Elf'.
It has been quite a blustery day here in the North east.

Good to hear you got sorted out with the iron tablets RTL, I hope they soon pick you up. I had to take them when I was in my late teens, they did me the world of good.
If the statins don't suit you make sure you tell your doctor straightaway, they can soon change you onto a different one. Nice to have found a doctor who suits you too, makes the whole experience so much easier

Yes it's certainly been a blustery one, seems to have died down now. We do seem to have had a lot of high winds lately don't we?

Was very windy yesterday, was very loud.  Then very heavy rain later in the day.  Another mad day at work.  we actually had staff for that shift but drastically short for night shift.  We ran out or queuing space in the ambulance bay before Noon.

Was the anniversary of my dad's death yesterday so a bit worried about my mum.

How long since your Dad died Pharma?
It never goes away especially if it was a good marriage.
My son’s don’t do anything but my daughter always sends a card and I have flowers in for all occasions.
That helps a bit, abd I think my husband would be much older than your Dad, in poor health with heart failure and the total suddenness was a mercy.
If you have time, and I know that could be a big if, find a moment or two to ask things ,it is a sort of catharsis to the nearest person.
It will help you too.
Kind regards.

Thanks Roobarb.  Only had two statins now so far but no side effects so far. :)  I expect from experience the iron will make a big difference so I am quite pleased to be back on them.

I agree with LM that it is good to reminisce about good memories.
Incidentally, it was my Dad's anniversary too yesterday; if he was still alive he would have been 109.  His own Father died when he was only 42 of exhaustion and anaemia.  This Grandfather of mine was a coal miner. I think this affected my Dad very deeply and family story was that my Dad became convinced for some reason he would die at that age too.  I think it came as a relief when he got to 43 and I was his last child born when he was 47 and thankfully he lived on until till a good old age.  He had survived rheumatic fever as a child, taking part in invasion in WW2 and a very serious mine accident in the 1960s which narrowly missed being fatal!

November 11th commemorated here on the day.  Canadians contributed greatly to both world wars.

Well we got our first snow, began yesterday afternoon, was very wet.  We have about four inches accumulated, not much by our standards, but neither OH or I can clear driveway, it is heavy.  OH has a touch of the stomach bug I had (I haven't been out in a week), and I cannot shovel snow with my arthritis.  We were going to go to a craft/food/book/puzzle sale this morning at the local ski hill, about 5 minutes away (am sure they are happy about the snow, but it will keep people away from the sale!) so I am a bit disappointed.  The dog was pleased with the snow, likes to bury his nose in it!

Walked into the kitchen a favourite small bowl, mug, and my cell phone - dropped everything but the mug (also a favourite, a Starbucks mug from London, UK), and smash!  If I had dropped them a foot earlier, would have landed on the runner in the hallway, carpet.  We have a porcelain tile kitchen floor, so no give at all.  The phone is okay, bowl shattered into at least fifty pieces.  Had to herd to dog outside while OH vacuumed.

Out for coffee in the morning and then I must pick up a few items at the grocery store.

Nothing much else is happening!

Hope everyone is well.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about your mishaps Diana,  at least no one was injured and no doubt you can replace the china

Pleased you managed to get to church this morning Viktoria, I had to zoom my church service this morning, still isolating,  plus it will be even longer now as I have generously given it to my husband, I am kind like that, anyway back to church, they laid 3 wreaths, one laid by our new Mayor in his full regalia, I was sorry not to be there as it is a nice service

This Covid, I am sure people are thinking they just have a peculiar sort of cold, it really is weird, biggest problem I think is purchasing  the testers , I am not pleading poverty but I think my husband paid nearly £19  I think for 10 testers,  a lot  of money for those on a tight budget  so people aren't buying them, and so it goes on

Take care, nearly another week gone

Sorry to hear about your husband, LM. Hope he has a mild case.  I shared my stomach bug too!

Covid tests are still free here, whenever we see a box, we pick one up.  Strangely, we can't get them at doctors' or drugstores, we have come across them in department stores that have pharmacies.  Think we have almost 20 tests on hand.  I used two during my stomach ailment but both negative.

I have found that some testers given before we were charged  are useless, the liquid in the file is less than half needed and therefore the tester shows blank, perhaps it evaporates in some way, I don’t know?, did it twice for us, so beware.

Good job your phone wasn't damaged Diana, that could have been expensive.

The other day I nearly pulled a chest of drawers over on myself, along with the TV that was on top. I was moving some clothes around, without thinking about it I'd taken the ones out of the bottom drawers. Of course when I pulled open the top drawer the whole thing was top heavy. It all started leaning towards me and the TV came sliding towards me. I managed to stop the TV's progress and push the chest of drawers back. A few expletives were uttered I must admit, it did scare me a bit.

When it comes to spring I'll empty the top drawers first!

Yes, happy the phone was not damaged.
We got about 30 bags of leaves out to the curb, OH did most of the work, but I did help.  They are supposed to be picked up tomorrow, sometimes they are late by a few days and the bags can get very wet and a mess can ensue.
Saw a cat in our backyard. Very unusual, cats rarely roam free here.  Hope it stays safe.

Like Canada, NZ recognises Armistice on the day mostly ... which will sometimes be the Sunday of Remembrance of course. Have accounted in photo gallery that I visited our cenotaph at the 11th hour of 11th day and month, however the usual ceremony had been moved earlier morning into the school hall nearby because of uncertain forecast but no indication that was the case, anyway my poppy joined another placed there and apart from a bit of breeze the weather was good for the walk.

Our covid tests are still free, can be picked up for each member of household if symptoms but haven't needed to top up our small supply. I tested negative again today though, darlings gifted me something of their lurgy when they were here over a week ago and went home last Sunday, aware some symptoms could be suspect and so just to be sure ... as was daughter all the time for them and negative. As yet husband hasn't any virus symptoms, doing best to avoid sharing of course as with any time I have signs and he doesn't ... always the first thing he says, "don't give it to me" and mostly oblige  :)
This Saturday though, heard some of classmates and best playmates of miss 8 up north have now tested positive so they're on high alert again, she has had two jabs when they became available for youngsters and friends have as well.

Hope the new week brings better health all ... also no around home mishaps of concern. Interesting re the cats rarely roaming there, Diana, they're fairly free to here and way too many roaming dogs in parts of our suburb!

A lovely fresh bright day.
A friend came round this afternoon to see if I cared to go for a walk round the cemetery .I joined her then thought there is one grave that saddens me very much, a young family , the father was reported missing in WW1 ,his little girl was two, but he had been in the army some time so she would be just a baby
when he joined the army.
The little girl died before the news came that her father had actually been killed .
Poor woman , to lose both in a short  space of time, there are never flowers there and you have to pass the grave as it is just by the path.
I ought to have put a poppy there ,and was sorry as I ended up with my friend walking there and could have done it then.

Well my gouty fingers are a nuisance, I will never get my rings on again as some lumpy bits seem permanent now .

Son had on a programme about the SAS, my gosh! What swearing.
I reminded him his Dad never ever said that word and would not have listened to it and I was not comfortable either ,he did not know in advance how bad it would be,  but anyway turned it off .

Grand daughter phoned today ,is coming up on 27 th ,but son might be sorting some stuff out at his former  home , but it us to be stored at his sister’s showroom where there are very safe containers. Insured etc.
However it means she can take all the Christmas presents not collected for two years! Phew I will be glad to see the back of them.
Flash Harry’s parents never have room with the baby stuff and grand daughter had a very small car but a bigger  one now Yippee!

For some reason there were two Police cars in our road yesterday, one parked perilously close to the nasty man with the dropped kerb! :o
I was hoping he would tackle The Police as he did me and my son ,but no,  wouldn’t  dare I suppose.

Am knitting some mittens ,one done but second seems much smaller —— you “ just “ reverse the instructions but several sizes etc etc,the second looks more like it so can see me doing a third ,then a fourth to match the larger one—— are you still with me?

Well much to do ,but must  first  wish all in poor health that they are soon feeling better, our Covid patients speedy recoveries with no nasty lingering effects.
Cheerio.Viktoria.
You will gather it is now Monday morning ,so will put this “ in the post”.V.

in the post “.

Many towns and cities have by laws about cats roaming free, and certainly dogs.  The only time we see the latter is if one gets away from its owner or some nasty owner has dumped it.
Cats are in real danger here from foxes, martens, and coyotes, not to mention reckless human drivers.
Title: Re: Diary summary week ending 13th November

I think many conservationists would like by laws with cats, some areas have tried to implement it keeping in mind the predatory nature and small wildlife including protected species at risk, encouragement to keep from roaming at night etc.

Mandatory for dogs in NZ to be registered at 3 months, chipped soon after and licence to keep more than two in urban areas. Irresponsibility probably the main factor with roaming animals on the streets in some areas, going by the number of reports on local media pages, inadequate fencing or leashing as well. Can be reported to council of course, mostly it seems to be dog lovers helping each other out to find them before being impounded!

The Gas Man cometh—- well I hope he does, a service to my wall mounted real coal  effect gas fire. ::)

The glass front is getting dirty inside and that should not happen ,a bit sluggish to ignite too and the wall looks a bit darker above it ,so not sure what all that is about.
I have a service contract so have booked a service but he has changed it three times so hope he does come today.

Such a dark dreary morning ,have washing in but will have to be dried inside I think,I almost never use the drying facility of the washer.
I have a big foldaway trap your fingers maiden.

Got a lovely piece of ham for weekend but it is a good size and so I will freeze  it for perhaps New Year , depending where I am, with whom and if I am the cook.

Wonder what that sound I heard outside Morrisson’s was ,the oo cuck bird ?
Wasn’t there on Saturday.
Near the yard where fork lift trucks and pallets are , might have been machinery of some sort.

Well son arrived back from finally sorting out his house ,so more junk here!
He brought two de- commissioned fire arms, old ones and a clanking great sword from The Crimean War!
You will gather he has an interest in militaria.
Had to leave some stuff from The American Civil War, on a works trip so he made a visit ,to the site of a battle, not sure which battle site but stuff was everywhere and he handed over some small stuff he had found just lying about and was given back what it was allowed he could keep.
Also had some cannon balls ,no special connections ,just from an antique shop ,plus what we were always finding round Ypres.
Webbing spacers ,buckles ,spent cartridge cases and once a Dixie ,the tin the soldiers ate from ,that was Hill 60.
Sadly also a small stone trough , I bought it from a house in Crow Lane Ramsbottom ,just lying abandoned in the front garden ,it had been Crow Lane Farm , almost opposite St,Paul’s .
It would be a feed or water trough .

Wel ,must get on, I hate waiting for workmen to arrrive, can’t settle to anything .
Hope all are feeling somewhat better .
I must test tomorrow evening ,a bit of a rush on Wednesday morning as I am being picked up anytime after six .
I am already practising my “ Oooaaar Jim Lad” ,oh gosh Robert Newton with those eyes! In my case temporarily eye!

Cheerio.
Viktoria.
