I am actually looking for the date of death of John Wesley Harwood, brother to Justin Dunsmore Harwood. Hoping that Justin's obit might mention if his brother John is still alive or not. Their parents were Hiram Harwood and Emily Justine Mueller, both sons born New York. Actually, they also had a sister Harriet A. Harwood who married Eugene Sutherland. She died Apr 1920, guessing New York. Her obit might be even more valuable to narrowing down the date of death of John, who was last heard of in Aug 1893 in Redwood, Minnesota but disappeared at that time. https://www.rootschat.com/links/01rxh/
Thanks for any help

That was a very good obit. A lot of online trees say that John died 1963 but I didn’t believe it because he would be 119 years old. A lot of others say 1936 in a variety of locations which include Tooele, Utah or Toole county, Montana and Iowa. Iowa is definitely not him and Toole Co. says they don’t have his death. Checking Tooele.
Now if we find his sister’s obit, and John he is still alive, it might mention John and his whereabouts. One can always hope.
Thank you RJ137.

Thank you RJ. Too bad that is so brief and uninformative. Yesterday, in the Minnesota Digital newspaper hub, I found an article which stated that Sarah Harwood was filing for divorce from Hiram Harwood due to his wilful desertion of the family on July 26, 1893. This is Hiram, John Wesley’s son. Approximately a week or 10 days ago, Lisa in California found an article in the Redwood Gazette dated Aug 17, 1893, which stated that John W Harwood had been missing for about three weeks and that he was a resident of the Lower Sioux agency. Firstly, I am thinking that possibly father and son disappeared together. Secondly, I looked up Lower Sioux agency and it was the local Indian reservation. We can’t know if John, or both of them, continued to stay there or carried on. I am working on getting the divorce records for both of them and also on another lead that John died in Tooele, Utah in 1936.

Hiram's daughter Ida Mary Gibbs died Aug 18, 1931 in Seattle, Washington State. Wonder if her obit would mention her father Hiram Harwood who could be alive in 1931, at age 63.
