Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help with this family please? We're looking for the mother of Joseph (b1858), Samuel (b1864) Henry (b1865), Sarah A (b1868) she's possibly Mary with husband Robert Davies.
In 1871 they were at Pentre, Chirk, 1881 New Bridge, Ruabon, Wrexham. I can't find them in 1861, but I need mothers maiden name if possible please.
thank you one and all.

Hi
The GRO birth registrations of Joseph, Samuel and Henry suggest that the mother's (Mary) maiden name was Jones.
Note that Pentre and New Bridge are about 1/2 mile apart.
I'll check the marriages, shortly.

There is a possible marriage for Robert Davies (23) and Mary Jones (29 or 27) in Rhosymedre (nearest to Newbridge) on 5th December 1854. Both living Ruabon at the time.
Robert's father was Ellis Davies and Mary's was Edward Jones
Witnesses were William Davies and Phoebe Parry
Note that this is only a possible. The registration district would be Wrexham. If they married in Chirk, the reg district would be Oswestry.

Just checking that I have the correct family as you didn't mention the 2 daughters that were on the 1871 census
Sarah A Davies, aged 3, (bc.1869) and Mary E, Davies, 6 mths , so born 1870
RG10/2784/21/10
-
Also, on the 1881, RG11/5514/101/32
John 9
James 6
George 5
Richard E 4
Mary (first one may have died) 8 mths
These later ones born Newbridge
Add - Richard E 's birth reg records him as Richard Ellis Davies, mmn Jones. Ellis might just possibly be for the father of Robert on the marriage cert that I found.
-
Doesn't help finding the family in 1861. Note an age gap between those first two children, Joseph and Samuel.
This might be worth a look - Geneanet Community Tree

Note that i have mentioed all this.
Why are you repeating things that have already been found (well I suspect)

Could I offer another suggestion for the marriage of Robert Davies and Mary Jones ( without being chastised again - -- rather childish !!)
Robert Davies (21 years) to Mary Jones (20 years) - 2 May 1857 - Pontfadog, Denbighshire, Wales.

Might be coincidence but that would seem to fit with the birth of Joseph 6 February 1858
baptised 6 June 1858

I think you;re going the wrong way. Note that the marriage cert is Llangollen.
The 1861 records for the pentre/newbridge area that they are living in is missing.
-
Mary is born Chirk in all the censuses.
-
Also - note that the marriage cert that you have found gives their residence as Castle Mill*. This is not in the area that is indicated on the censuses. It's in the Llangollen Trian not Ruabon or Chirk.
-
Note that the majority of censuses have Mary and Robert both born Chirk.
-
Thank you both for your efforts I really appreciate what you have found so far, it is helpful, and to know that the 1861 census has bits missing- I'll stop looking.
Not knowing the area makes it difficult.
I'll check the marriages that you suggest
:) thank you

Many of my ancestors are from that area and I was born and lived there until my late teens. I can picture exactly where they lived. It's difficult for those who don't know how the villages relate to each other.
Ill check my local info. and see if I can find more. Robert and Mary might well be distant relatives of mine :)
-
Note that if Robert was born Newbridge rather than Chirk (censuses give both). You might well not find him in 1841 as the census for Ruabon (includes Newbridge that borders Chirk parish) is missing.
-
I think I might have found Robert in 1851
Newbridge Farm, Rhosynedre
Joseph Davies 48 Ag. lab.
Sarah, 47.
Henry, 16
Robert, 14
Harriet, 12
All b. Chirk apart from Sarah - born Llangollen.
It might well be the one that Sandra found but ......
-
And if this is the Mary of the 1857 marriage.
Her family are in Chirk in 1851 and are not the Ruabon one that Sandra found .
Black Park, Chirk
Richard Jones, 54 Coal miner
Ann, 48
Elizabeth, 22
George, 22
Richard, 19
James, 15
Samuel, 13
Mary, 13
Catherine 8
All b. Chirk
-
Sorry, Sandra - it does look as if it's the one you found. The witnesses to the marriage are George Jones and Harriet Davies - sibs of Mary and Robert.
GRO Marriage ref will be Q2, 1857, Corwen, 11b, 693
Why would they be at Castle Mill and then moved back.
Now I can go celebrate my birthday !
-
Mary was baptised 17 July 1837, Chirk
Mary, daughter of Richard and Anne Jones, collier.
PS and brother/twin Samuel on the same day. Record brackets them as Twins in marginal note.
-
Must add this:
In the 1841, the Jones family were living next door to my 3 x grt grandfather, Thomas Par(r)ish, in Black Park, Chirk grt
HO107/1399/1/7/7
:D
-
Looks as if there might well be a link to my ancestors ~
A Richard Jones and Ann Ellis, married in Chirk on 5 April 1823
The witnesses were William Parish and Susannah Davies
William is possibly my 2nd grt grandmother's brother.
Add = Ellis does seems correct as the birth reg for Catherine , 8, on the 1851 census shows her mmn as Ellis
Chirk - Bpt 11 April 1842, Catherine d of Richard (collier) and Anne Jones, Black Park
-
Maybe ~
Chirk baptisms
March 10 1802 Ann d of Richard Ellis and Catherine

Thank you very much. Delighted to be able to help. It's great to knock down those brick walls.
Sorry the 1861 seems to be missing but your mystery was solved without it.

Sandra :)
