Title: Ede Family
Post by: aidansrest on Wednesday 12 April 23 15:29 BST (UK)
Hi

Looking for any evidence of a Lily (Lilian) Ede who married George Taylor Lambert in Lancaster during the March quarter of 1917.

I was hoping not to have to purchase a copy marriage certificate, but may have to.
George was born in Sheffield in 1886 (his parents were Robert Lambert/Jane Hewitt), but following his marriage, two children were born in Herefordshire, and the 1939 register finds him living in Sheffield with his widowed mother, and his son.
Apparently, he and Lily had split up following the birth of their children, but neither remarried.
George died in Sheffield in 1953 - probate to his wife, Lily Lambert - but Lily may not have died until the mid 1970's - possibly in Hull!

So...I have no idea when or where she was born - any ideas anyone!

Thanks
Sue

Is this the family in 1921?

Free search of 1921 census

Holy Trinity and St Mary's, Hull

George Lambert 1889 Sheffield
Lily Lambert 1897 Essex
Kenneth Lambert 1917 Herefordshire
Joyce Lambert 1919 Herefordshire

ADDED
If so, you really need to see the original as mistranscriptions can happen.

Do you have the will as it should give an address for Lily

A word of warning.
The PoB box on the '21 Census is not completed properly. It is, however, possible to identify PoB and it is not as posted.

The PoB on the original of the Census does lead to a baptism at that place that could well be your Lily.

I don't have her will, but her last known address was close to Selby Street, Hull
So she definitely died in Hull.

Sue

Have no idea about her place of birth, other than the entry kindly located for me on the 1921 census.
Because she married in Lancashire, had her children in Herefordshire and then died in Hull - she certainly moved around alot!

I don't know how the 1921 Free search came up with the answer posted (Essex) but looking at the original it identifies both "place" and "county".
This in turns leads to a possible baptism that fits "place" and a GRO birth registration where the registration district includes "place".
You'll appreciate hands tied in releasing details.

Ofcourse- any chance of a clue though, just so I can locate her in 1901 or 1911.
Or even 1939!
 Very frustrating!

The County has wrongly been written against the sons entry,  Lilys entry just gives a town name

More than one place with the same name, it's just the Essex one is probably the best known  ;)

Why might her son have two counties given as his birthplace?

I mentioned in the opening post Lily's PoB was not "properly completed". However, if you go by the bracket that covers the childrens' PoB,  it does not extend to Lily's "county" which is entered below "place".
Still cannot see where "Essex" comes from?

No mention of Essex anywhere on the schedule, it's the transcriber's own addition.  If it was anc doing the transcription it would probably be somewhere by the same name in the USA!

There is a W*d on the outskirts of London, traditionally in Essex.
