Morning all ,
Lousy morning, rain again,
Well the time has come, for those who remember my car saga today it is going in for repair , my husband actually washed it so that it looks presentable, I just hope everything goes to plan, I have only driven to church and back as it is local, not driven far afield but I have to this morning and not looking forward to it.
I managed to do some gardening yesterday hoping to could finish the edges today, well thwarted again, rain looks set in for the day, by now I would have got my bedding plants sorted.
Hope everyone is feeling chipper this morning, happy week.

Morning LM and everyone.
Glad to hear your car is now going to be repaired to its former glory. Have they said how long it will take?
Lovely sun here today so am going to hang the washing outside to dry.
We've had an early delivery of a new washer as we were second on the list apparently . Two lovely polite men. We'd had texts to give us a 2 hour delivery window for today , then they rang 30 minutes before to say they were on their way. Such a good service. (JL)
Plumber is coming on Wednsday to sort it all out ( not straightforward so we needed a plumber not a handy person).
-
Morning all on this bright sunny day… long May it last as I’m just about to hang out the washing before my Pilates class.
Good luck with the car LM hope they don’t have it in the garage for too long.. sure you miss getting out and about under your own steam… 🤞for a good outcome for you.
Candleflame - good luck with your new washer too… JL very good, isn’t it marvellous how these days you can track your imminent delivery so as not to miss them or have to wait in all day when given specific time slots… the wonders of modern technology.
Well must away, enjoy the sunshine hose who have it and commiserations to those not so fortunate.. could be us tomorrow !

Morning everyone,
I don't very often contribute to the diary but.........
Moved to tears this morning watching the footage of Rob Burrow being carried over the finish line by his friend Kevin at the end of the marathon. We all need a Kevin in our lives. Makes all our problems seem insignificant. Have a brilliant week everyone. Love reading your posts. Welly x
-
Yes Welly, that was very sad but what friendship?
My car should be ready by the end of the week, I haven't driven as I said since my accident but my husband drove my daughters car which she leant us so I had to drive mine, needed a lift back, lots of roundabouts which is where I had my accident but I was pleased I did it, I just hope I have done the right thing in buying it back, it was only cosmetic and I do like my Fusion.
It has turned extreemly cold today, really don't know what is the matter with the weather.
LM

That certainly was a tear jerking moment Welly, I agree it makes us count our blessings.
It's a lovely day here, having a break from gardening. Went up to the nurseries earlier for topsoil, compost, plants. They've had the car park marked out with spaces and put some at the side where the compost is, it was awful, you have to have eyes in the back of your head to watch the people next to you loading their car, ones coming in both entrances and people ambling across your path when you're reversing. It was so much easier when you just drove in and parked in one row. Why does everything have to change? A bit of sameness would be welcome after these last few years.
Good luck with the car LM.
-
I agree with Roobarb's words Wellie. I think both those men are true heroes and what a beautiful love filled friendship!
Good luck with the car LM and with the washer Candleflame.
It is sunny already here and I'm just having breakfast before I will have to set off on commute to work.
Hope all have a good day.

I had a fantastic day out yesterday, went to Southend by train, got the train to the end of the pier and sat in the sun, then I took my friend for lunch in a nice restaurant, only downside was the journey home , unfortunately we got the
train with hoards of school children from 2 very good schools, but the students weren't, crowded, standing, hardly any sat down and it was very loud, my friend comment to a group as we got out it was the worst train journey ever, to which a couple apologised, it was horrendous and there was I thinking it would be nice by train than by bus as we usually do, half of me wants to write and complain to be honest but what good would that do.
Looks another nice day today, hopefully the weather is improving..
Have a nice day

A Grand Day Out,L.M.
I sometimes travel home in a bus to Ramsbottom from Bury, the fee paying Grammar Schools, girls and boys have good reputations academically ,but in the buses— whew!
And our local High School also excellent academic reputation——— well, the language and behaviour is dreadful.
You have to time your shopping to end before three O’Clock, the pupils come out so early, what happened to nine to four ?
They pass my garden and no shame ,girls and boys : surely their frequent use of obscene words can’t be switched off at home -?
I try never to be in the garden as they pass and nighties and undies off the line as they seem to invite crude allusions.
I really would love to have a big dog that could leap the fence and scare them but they might run into the road and then a serious accident might ensue .
Wouldn’t want that ,although - I don’t know ——
But it is on TV and well earlier than the “ watershed “ almost every other word in some personalities’ vocabulary .
One small blonde angelic kid .looks as if he ought to be in a Cathedral Choir ,
uses THAT word between syllables ,” W ednes££@#& day “——-
Oh dear, turn back the clock.
Viktoria.

Morning folks
Hope everyone has a good day, a lot cooler today, strange weather , I want to get my bedding plants sorted , not even been to the nursery's yet
Not a lot going on really, I did mow the lawn yesterday, think my days of mowing will be over soon, such hard work for me now, don't get many men who want a little gardening job locally but I will keep my ears open. Not so many years ago men would like a little job for extra money, perhaps most get a good pension and no need to do odd jobs.
Yes Viktoria, "turn back the clock" , i remember at the bus stop when I was at school, if children were unruly Miss T, would have them up in front of her the next morning , woe betide any of them, the children in the compartment were high school children.
Well, must get on, duty calls
Have a good day folks

LM do you have any near neighbours who have older youngsters at school or college who might be interested in doing it? I often see mentions on a local fb page asking if anyone has any jobs for an eg 15 year old wanting to earn some money. They find it difficult finding any small jobs. Or try your local scout group if you have one near as they can earn badges for service or gardening or whatever and might know of someone. We also seem to have a few handymen advertising now to do odd jobs like assembling flat pack furniture etc, so mowing where you provide the machine might fit the bill?
-
Just wish it wasn't all wet on the ground - I NEED to get out there weeding (again)
TY
-
We planted a rose bush given to me as a present last week, dug the hole, and it filled with water straight away,
Quite a lot of our neighbours have asto turf or slabs, looks very nice but I prefer the real thing and so I continue to mow and moan about it !!.
CF, the neighbours family don't help out their own parents, one lad is over 30 and doesn't appear to do a thing so I don't think he will will offer to help me with my mowing even if I paid and to be honest I won't ask.
Bob a job doesn't exist now but it would be more than "a bob" but that wouldn't be a problem .
I will carry on whilst I can

Seemed like last Saturday most were taking the opportunity to mow lawns with a clear fine day and those that weren't at home or had done chores were clogging the roads, or at least in the few hours as we drove across the city they were. Perhaps some were busy shopping for mothers day, taking mum on an outing or ferrying families to sporting events etc but seemed busier than ever and especially around popular retail spaces, not that we were doing any of the above. Our lawns were done though by our mower man, he's contracted to a mowing service and probably only gets pittance himself but has always said is happy with arrangement and definitely gives us a good service and we tip him for that.
Week sped by with routine stuff, brief appearances at group activities and fine enough for the walks and line dried washing, some outdoor jobs when days warmed up a little, heaps to be working away at inside and towards move. Very windy last couple of days with subtropical activity and more weather watch, also tsunami awareness following earthquake in Loyalty Islands this afternoon, warning lifted but swells observed closer to high tide in the north.
Husband's brother and his wife and their adult son arrived mid-afternoon today from the far north, settled in now for the night next door, taking them to the airport Sunday morning for flight to Queenstown, hoping they get a good few days for their stay until Friday.
Seeing younger daughter again tomorrow morning, treated to a lovely Sunday evening meal by her last weekend as well as a generous gift which was very nice. Thinking cap on now for sons-in-law birthday gifts, fairly quiet one this year for one in north midweek gone but having small belated celebration soon, big 50 birthday last year and a new baby as a present the week before! Do have a couple of small items aside and a bit of planned shopping to do before all the family dates coming up over rest of month.
Can picture the scenario with the school children on the train quite well, LM, having not managed to avoid them a few times myself occasionally. They flood noisily into the carriages and dominate the space with their exuberance and often not a lot of consideration for others, say no more ...
… but good to hear rest of the outing was enjoyable and good luck with the car and also the bedding plants :-) Also fingers crossed for better conditions for all who are hankering to get theirs into a bit of gardening too.
A few minutes into Saturday NZ now ...
-
L.M,I have Astro turf,I had my little dog a female and they do make scorch marks on real lawns when they spend a penny!
Flash Harry was a tiny toddler and came every weekend ,I chose the artificial turf so I could disinfect it ,also there are service pipes underneath.
Real turf would have to be dug up should any problems arise.
I could not mow it these days.
However ,no worms etc ,well not that I ever see.
Hope all goes well with your car , and it doesn’t take too long.
Thanks for your news folks. It keeps me going!
Viktoria
-
Car ready to collect tomorow, ant wait, the man said it does look nice, I just hope I have done the right thing.
Spent a long time in the garden in a tee shirt tidying up, , quite warm, lifted pots that the contents look as if they are struggling, i have put them in "casualty corner" to give them a chance, my husband is in a fleece, say no more!
Viktoria, I think everyone's news keeps us going , your worm have gone next door.
LM
-
Oh poor souls, next door is where my son is going to live, conveyancing in progress .
Needs drastic horsetail treatment ,surprisingly the surveyor did not comment.
It is completely flagged over!
He had a nice vegetable patch at his previous home ,but has ordered a giant shed,he likes to restore things .
Will have trees in tubs but also could lift flags , but horsetail treatment is a must first .
With roots as long as five feet it is almost impossible to eradicate
No worms is a sign I imagine of high water content and sour soil.
I must get some good compost to enrich it.
Hope your car is really nice L.M.
Do let us know and be confident ,you were not at fault remember.
Cheerio ,hope everyone has a nice day tomorrow.
Viktoria.
-
I don't find many worms in my garden , it is a clay soil,
Our worms must break their necks trying to burrow as the ground is often hard, murder to dig ready for bedding plants, not bought any yet due to weather, normally a Whit weekend job.
From quite a nice day in the sun it is very cold tonight.

Hope your car is back in splendid condition tomorrow LM :) ..
By the time I finished a run of shifts last night I felt quite exhausted. When I got to Newcastle I could hear loud, chant like singing like a battle cry and there were hordes of people at and streaming through the bus station, many of them wearing their Toon army tops and scarves. i hadn't known that a match had been on. I worried that I wouldn't get on the bus because of all the people but I did.
When I get off second bus I walk home through the park in the dark as it is now seagull nesting season and I do not want to risk being dived bombed and chased down the street as I was last year.
Back home I saw an email from my nephew; he has attached some certs and wants advice/help with some researching on his Father's side. I email back saying I will get back tomorrow as I have not long finished work and am exhausted. Too tired to think.
This morning I got a text from Doctor advising me that I need to send in up to date bp reading now that I have been on meds for a month. (Heart rate shot up immediately.) Doc says any pharmacy will do it.
However, when I went along to get my next prescription today and asked if they would do it I was told they had no time to do it. Pharmacy was empty as well but perhaps they were busy out the back.
I went to another pharmacy and the pharmacist seemed quite put out and said testing is not for those already diagnosed. She asks my name and the name of the surgery and says she will ring them immediately to tell them not to tell people in future to come for tests! After this call which is done in front of me, someone from surgery rings me saying they will fit me at the surgery in if I can go along in next hour. This is not convenient as I am meeting SiL for a booked talk event at the library, so they give me an appointment for next week instead.
Unfortunately, at the library we find out the talk has been cancelled because speaker is not well. They apologise and offer us free refreshments. SiL takes it all very well but I feel disappointed. On way home I withdraw a large sum to pay for my next months travel pass which I will have to buy tomorrow at the station before my 12 hour shift.
I've just looked into my Nephew's family history question and sent off what I've found and some advice. I think it's nice that someone else in the family is also showing an interest in the subject.
-
RTL
I admire you doing a 12 hour shift then having to travel home you must be one of these people who survive on little sleep, I don't sleep very well but I don't have a 12 hour work shift to do
I hope the birds don't attack you're they did before,
Good might everyone
LM
-
Oh I feel tired just reading that R.T.L.
It is so frustrating when you are given wrong instructions and get the flack that the informant deserves !Glad it got sorted.
I really would not like to walk home in the dark as you do.
Seagulls or not .
Do you have a spray or something for self defence?
A gadget that makes an ear splitting noise ?
You are very brave.
Well an early night I think ,I don’t get to sleep early ,so do crosswords etc then I am tired the next day.
Goodnight.
Viktoria.
-
LM, that is right I do survive on very little sleep. I do a variety of shifts sometimes swinging from a late finish onto an early start. My sleep quality is abysmal and I think I might ask Doc if this might have led to my hypertension. I have wondered too recently, if regular dehydration during Covid when public toilets were closed and I didn't dare drink for most of the working day might have played a part in this. It wasn't just the commutes I had to worry about; I do not work with the elderly, I work with a much younger generation and I would go out with them. Maybe I am just looking for something to blame but I can't help but wonder. I hope my bp is found to have improved next week. If not and they say exercise more, I really don't know how I can do it, being on my feet walking around for hours on end at work makes me feel too tired to even think any other additional exercise.
Forgot to mention that I found myself in conversation with an anti vaxxer yesterday. Their view is that Covid was released deliberately to reduce world population. Negative views and theories about the vaccine too. They think we are being lied to about everything. This person sounded very intelligent in expressing themselves but they haven't convinced me. I think because I wasn't argumentative they might have thought I was receptive to their views but I'm not. I was just interested in trying to understand their mindset on it all.
Viktoria, I don't have a spray or anything like that but I check to see no one is behind me when entering park and no one in the park. If there was I would go another longer route. It is lamplit and not that big. I can get through quick.
I would rather take my chances in the park than with a seagull any day. ;)
Goodnight Viktoria and all.

Looks a beautiful morning but it is early.
Collecting my car today, must say I am a little nervous, I must get on and do it though
Had a face to face call from my grandaughter in Vietnam, I think she has moved on to Bali as yesterday, I thought she seemed a little homesick, due home 1st week in July, been gone since 5th January , she then has to settle down and get a job, I have missed her.
RTL, has an umbrella been suggested when you walk through the park, might make you feel more confident.
Have a nice day folks
LM.

A beautiful morning in my neck of the woods too..
Morning to everyone… hope you’re delighted with your car LM and feel happy to start driving it again… nothing like having your independence while you can.
Good luck with your bedding plants too, we always put ours in during the bank hol w/e at the end of the month.
Well our wisteria has some beautiful flowers … royal blue they ain’t! As we’d been told, but a very pale lilac.. I don’t mind what colour they are just delighted to see some after waiting five years!!
RTL- what a run round you had with the pharmacies! Enough to put your bp up for sure.. hope you find it more settled when you go to your go’s next week. I think LM’s suggestion of an umbrella could be useful against the seagulls… or as a weapon whilst walking through the park at night time.. do take care.
Lovely to have another family member interested in FH research, I’m sure your help will be invaluable.
Today we’re off to a tea party in celebration for our friend who has been through the mill this last two years with cancer.. last year he had his bone marrow transplant and has recovered well… to the extent he’s just had his hip operation! So it will be great to celebrate with him. Our other friend who had two minor strokes last year is also doing well and is back to being able to cope with more than a couple of people around and entertaining again, so it’s all good news for them both.
Hope everyone has a pleasant w/end and the weathers kind!
Caroline

I meant to put the brolly up when walking through the park, might deter the birds
LM
-
RTL, treat yourself to a blood pressure monitor, it need not be an expensive one, then you can check you BP at different times of the day. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Doing it yourself avoids white coat syndrome, which often sends many peoples BP sky high.
If one has to walk after dark, it’s a good idea to carry your keys in your hand, with one key protruding between the index and middle finger. Should the worst happen then aim for the eyes, it should give you a chance to escape.
-
We bought a BP checker from one if tbe smaller chemists, was very reasonable but as Jebber says it is a good idea.
The umbrella I would put over me to protect myself from the pesky seagulls.
Cawl, hope you enjoy your festivities, it is nice to get out and about now, we still have covid roaming around locally, a friend of mine this is her 3rd time, we still have to be aware.
RTL, my husband can sleep at the drop of a hat as they say, falls asleep after the gym and after lunch and has a good night's sleep, I toss and turn but I have stopped getting up if i haven't slept for 2 hours or so, laid awake for ages last night and was up just after 7am, I sometimes nod off for a few mins in the evening, it is frustrating this sleep lark, a reasonable 7 hours would suit me.
Well Wilfred Jenkins is home!!!, WFJ, my car, someone was looking after me as there wasn't much traffic about, thought it was BH weekend but that's next weekend.
A lovely day so far, so quiet, dont think it will last though, luncheon calling
LM
-
Glad your car is home, L.M.remember ,it was not your fault, so gradually your confidence will come back.
Nice things happening for Caw,enjoy!
Tidied the garden a bit,son repairing a screen to shade the pond as the water gets very green in Summer.
Planted out ,well hanging baskets,Nasturtiums, from last year’s seeds that have sprouted, two leaves already.
Am dying to plant up two containers in next door’s garden I did it each year for my lovely neighbour’s Birthday .
If all goes through my son will live there soon, and he will have his own ideas!
Survey done just land searches now,.
It is not what he really wanted but at 64 not a good idea to have a mortgage so bought next door for cash , a nice little house and we can look after each other and maybe share a dog.
Next week down to Suffolk and gormless as I am I have a hair appt on my birthday!I am all over the place with dates—- it is The King’s fault ,this would not have happened when his mother was alive!
I still can’t believe she has gone ,what a wonderful record.
Got a lovely Birthday card for my Grandson, F.H’s Daddy.
Will take it down with us.
Thanks for the news folks, look after yourselves .
Cheerio for now.
Viktoria.

Hi to all and sorry if I don't comment on everyone's posts.
LM how is your car looking and feeling now you've got it back?
RTL I just can't believe it's a month since you started on your meds. Have you felt any different in yourself. I don't think you'll ever get over the tiredness until you are old enough to retire and don't have to do those punishing shifts!
-
I don't think retiring has helped my sleep pattern at all, I have less sleep as I have got older, I often get up feeling tired but what is the point of just laying there hoping I will fall asleep, generally up by 7 ish, sometimes nod off watching TV in the evening but not enough to upset my sleep, it is very annoying.
RTL works very hard long hours but manages to get enough sleep, I guess we are all different, perhaps when she does retire her sleep pattern will change after awhile but it might take time to adjust.
C F, my car does look good, I do need a couple of adjustments which couldn't be done as he wasn't a mechanic but sought the info to help me, I will get if all done and then I will be a happy bunny, just need a bit more confidence to go further afield which I can't do at the moment
It looks like rain now, no two days alike
Thank you to all who have been interested in my car saga, if was good to share it
LM
