Several ancestry trees seem to have John Hitchens and Elinor Angle of Colerne (m.1745 Wiltshire) as the parents of John Hitchens.
Quite a few folk with totally different John Hitchens seem to have claimed the 1840 burial for their John. One has a John Hutchings m.1797 Parthenia Williams at Calstock with 7 children all born Calstock.

on his marriage, John is noted as of Calstock.
There is a will of Thomas Hitchings, farmer, of Calstock in 1816 which leaves bequests to wife Mary, sons William, John & Simon, daughters Mary & Elizabeth both with married surname Pearse.

Burial in Calstock 22 Feb 1821 Simon Hitchins 42 of Hedging but no likely baptism. But there is a possible baptism in Jacobstowe, Devon 15 March 1778 for Simon son of Thomas & Mary Hitchings. Other baptisms in the same parish to same parents
Elizabeth 10 Dec 1775
John 9 Aug 1767
Marriage Jacobstowe 18 May 1766 for Thomas Hitchings of Beer Ferrers, waterman, and Mary Brook otp

Thank you for the help osprey. The Calstock connection seems more plausible than the John and Elinor as parents tree that's been copied by others. I'm inclined to favour the location rather than an exact date match. Hard to be certain i suppose.

another thing linking Thomas Hitchins to the area is being of Beer Ferrers on marriage and that is just the other side of the Tamar so not far from Calstock.
