Hello
I wondered if someone could please access the Huddersfield Daily Examiner from the 31st of December 1985 to send me a copy of my grandfather's death notice? I have been told that if this contains his birth and death date I can use this to apply for his service records instead of needing to obtain his death certificate.
If anyone is able to access this for me I can send you the details of the notice I am looking for.
Thank you for reading my request 😊

On British Newspaper archive
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1985-01-01/1985-12-31?retrievecountrycounts=false&newspapertitle=huddersfield%20daily%20examiner&sortorder=dayearly
If you have never signed up to it before, you get three free looks, so you should be able to get it without paying anything.

Hello
Unfortunately, I used up the free goes trying to work out how to use the site, I was hoping someone may have another way to obtain it, if not I will look at the subscriptions.
Thank you for your help

I've had a look at the "hatch, match and despatch" column for the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, 31 Dec 1985.
Cannot see a "despatch" notice that includes a date of birth - all show age at death. Date of death appears to be present for all notices.
Date of birth normally associated with obituaries - not death notices.

If he died in 1985 his death reg should show his full birthdate so no need to buy the death cert
What was his name?

I searched BNA without knowing name but when "revisiting" post up popped details. I'd hit the duplicate post - confusing.

The widow named in obit on duplicate post matches a 1945 marriage in Huddersfield. However - neither the marriage or obit mention a middle name

He is on the 1939 register - no middle name

Hi Carole
Thank you so much for all your help, that is definitely my grandad, he's George Robert Mead and his mum was Jessie and his dad was John 😊.
You mentioned that I wouldn't need to get a death cert if it's on the death reg, do you know if the MOD or the Archives will accept this when applying for my grandads service records?
Thank you again for taking time to search for me 😊

And you even managed to find my great nana and grandads marriage! I searched on the My Heritage site for ages and couldn't find that, in fact to be honest I can't seem to find much at all on that site 😵💫 I think maybe I need to find a different genealogy site or perhaps I'm just not using that site properly lol 😆
You have found more in a few hours than I managed to find in months so thank you again for your help

You are very welcome. Some free sites which may prove useful for you
www.freebmd.org.uk is where I found his birth & parents marriage.
I used GRO online to find his middle christian name as it only shows as an initial on freebmd. Free registration & free to use
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
Although I used Ancestry to find his death reg - it is actually on freebmd
The 1939 register gave me his parents names & confirmed the birthdate on his death reg. This is only available via the subscription sites but most libraries have free Ancestry or FindMyPast access
I don't know about the MoD - have a read of this thread

Thanks Carole, that's a really big help 😊

I tried the online Huddersfield Crematorium Book of Remembrance and this seems to be the entry for George Mead born 22 Jul 1925, died 29 Dec 1985

Tickettyboo,
Thank you so much for that, I remember going up to Fixby Crem to see that when it was opened in the chapple of rest each year 🥰 I wonder if this would be considered as proof when applying for his military records 🤔

I don't know for sure but think you need to read through this info as which branch of the services he was in may have a bearing on what is available and how you can get it.
