Someone recently on another forum mentioned Michael & Louisa Chatterton in 1881 with 4 children and 13 family members, Louisa was the younger sister of my Gt Gt Grandad and I would like to know who the other people at the Ships Tavern were on that census day.

Apologies for cluttering your thread, don’t know why I didn’t keep to tavern! I spent a fair bit of time searching so probably just jumped when I saw this one.

Thanks for replies, don't no how they counted 15, must have counted some twice maybe, William up from London Fireman & wife Emma Jane with 3 children, he went on to be a Fire chief in Derby. Alan thanks for map, I did know where it was but it was gone before my time when I first went that was in the late 1940's as a small boy.

The Ship Tavern is still shown as a beerhouse on this OS map, published in 1956. The revision information says that the primary survey was before 1930 and that there was a revision "for major changes only" in 1950.

I can't find any newspaper reference to it after February 1911 (and it's quite tricky because there is a Ship Tavern in Boston too) when it is reported that John Coxell, Ship Tavern, Cowhirne, Spalding Marsh was not seeking to renew the license.
