Title: Diary summary week ending 3rd March
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 26 February 24 08:40 GMT (UK)
Good morning  folks
Who can believe we are starting yet another week but March, time seems to be flying buy.

After yesterday waking up to frost and mist today is quite bright but blowing a gale, washing will  have to be double pegged  otherwise it will  be on walkabouts

Hope everyone is feeing brighter this week, I cut my first daffodils  yesterday but I know that others have them  earlier, they are cheerful flowers

Take care everyone .

Trying hard to cheer up. Late last week GP's staff ordered wrong item twice, on repeat prescription, and didn't order more important one - I was so busy I didn't realise 'til too late when 2 days later I managed to find time to collect from our really efficient pharmacy.
Today spent all morning waiting (2nd week!) in vain for a call from nice man at virgin ( no-one rang) and 20 mins trying to get through to GP (cut off after 20 mins of waiting) so I'm totally frustrated all round. Grrrrr!
Great start to the week, isn't it?

Chin up, tomorrow is another  day, try them tomorrow refreshed.
Must admit though it is frustrating  this telephone lark, bring  back the 4d in the phone at the bottom of the road!!!.

I wouldn't wait till tomorrow TY, I'd take it into your own hands and ring the man at Virgin today or it'll be on your mind all night. If it was me I'd be giving them a bit of earache!

As for the GP, mine are always busy in the mornings so it might be worth trying them again before afternoon surgery starts.

I sympathise T.Y.
Given drug advice the wrong way round at The Heart Failure Clinic ,given a lrflet about Entresto( Sacubitril Valsarstan) with lots of confusing advice etc.
Given a letter which I thought was for me ,with new meds on it.
To increase Ramipril to 2.5 .
However the leaflet said to stop Ramipril  48 hours before taking any
Entresto !
So I phoned the hospital and spoke to the same Nurse, again not very clear. She asked had I taken the letter to my GP——- well I assumed that would be done electronically and this hard copy was mine with the complicated instructions .,but no it was for the GP.so I took it down and handed it to a receptionist ,since when it has disappeared !
After a lot of phoning etc a copy has been sent electronically and the receptionist gave me clearer verbal instructions.
Then a leaflet with info regarding Forxiga ( Dapaglifozin) ) came and seemingly that is the one to start immediately with a doubling of Ramipril!
Then after my next appointment is when I stop Ramipril and start on the
Entresto!!!
But wouldn’t it be reasonable to assume the prescription you had got would be the first drug to be used not the second one for which you had no prescription —— just a leaflet which did not have anything to do with a drug meant to be used at this time , the prescription was for a drug to be started in a couple of months after using one that I had no prescription for,and only after further tests ECG  and Echo scan.
It beggars belief , I will go tomorrow but usually they are closed on Tuesdays ,I can phone in the morning .
The Pharmacist at the Health Centre stopped Spironolactone,a diuretic, why I don’t know ,not after I had seen a Dr either -
 So swollen ankles etc now.
I must write it all down , or will only ask half the questions I need to ask .

Washing dry I think but so cold hard to tell.
When the ironing from this morning is fully aired after heating has been on this evening I can put this lot on the maiden.

Hope all are well, look after yourselves.
Viktoria.

Bluebells are popping up in the garden, but the naughty Spanish sort. There  were some in the lane but I dug them up, so they would not spread.

A bright sunny day but very cold.
Supposed to get much colder later in the week.

A pamphlet from a garden centre came today very cheap but —- ?
Some lupins and foxgloves would be nice .

Well Only Connect , In the hope I might be able to answer one or two. :-\

A cold rainy morning here, dull and  grey.
I have ironing to do so can “ watch “ TV as I

Aww Blackburn did not pull it off !

Son has taken his car to see why the braking lights are not working properly ,well they are but the red light kept coming on, and the speed was limited to really slow, so urgent action. I was surprised he was asked to take it,not have it transported ,seemed dangerous to me
I was also surprised it was a 2014 model, it is immaculate .
In the garage now, for inspection .
Hopefully it will be sorted.
Eldest son drove his car behind second son’s to the repair garage he phoned on Monday he was was asked to take it in today ,to Radcliffe, then drove him back here.

Cheerio. Hope all are O.K, look forward to your news.
Viktoria.

Morning folks
After a beautiful day yesterday if is not so nice today, not nice enough to get washing  out.

Tackling shortening  a pair of curtains by 10 inches   they are lined  so I decided to alter from the top, they were suppose to be dry cleaned but I washed them,   I think the heading tape has shrunken but not the curtain ,  as I am taking  the heading tape off it doesn't matter,  bought new tape yesterday, thought it was easier to alter from the top as I don't have to tackle the  lining, I hope they look OK I not I will  be heading for the nearest D****ms, other shops are avaliable.

My car is a 2009 Fusion, everyone who has dealt with any problems tell me it is a a nice car, low mileage, suits me, I didn't want to change it after  my accident,  so I am happy with it.

Enjoy your day whatever you are doing

Don't you have an NHS Sign In, with your Dispensing Chemist listed, Order Repeats (tick box) and check Authorisation status (changes to a different colour within a day usually), for your Prescription Repeats?  :)

Takes Mrs P 1 minute and me 2 to 3 minutes, but quicker than the Area Prescription Service number, that kept us waiting 20 - 30 mins to get through.

The GP Surgery linked us up, to use our 'NHS Log In' to order Repeat Prescriptions.

I totally understand your worry and frustration.
I had one heart drug removed by the by The Health Centre Pharmacist without any heart examination.
Spironolactone ,a diuretic,so now I have a cough and swollen ankles, and now I am also to stop Bumetanide another diuretic.———
I don’t feel any confidence at all.
What a mess we are in.

At Rochdale tomorrow for eye check ,if pressure OK I can stop eye drops,Yippee!

Been sorting out bedding ,I must have been running a hotel —- so much!
But we had four beds when all the offspring were at home ,everyone uses duvets now .

We felt rich when first married with three sets ,one on the bed one in the wash- drying - and a spare - in case!

Quick tea tonight ,son and brother off to pick up his car, that was quick .

Cheerio folks .

MY GP Surgery utilises internet software called Patient Access.
I can order my repeats from there (all 9 items!) as well as checking test results.

My latest blood test results were available later on in the day of the test.
(PSA levels - all normal!)

Viktoria, sorry to hear about your usual prescription and your health.

We have something going around in the Midlands, it isn't Covid or full Influenza, but something affecting Upper Respiratory, nose and throat, diarrhea, exhaustion and sleepiness.

A few cars in the Close have not left their driveways for a week, so probably laid up too.

Just checked my file and a sheet from GP confirms we have 'Patient Access' as well, but confused by 3 links to seemingly sign up and too much to take in.

Was asked have you NHS Sign-In (as I'd reported all my numerous Lateral Flow Tests) and can remember it, so I was half way there, using NHS Sign-in to order Repeat Prescriptions.

Mark

Added:
Yes, NHS Sign-In, confirms my Dispensing Chemist details too and we can check again if Doc has authorised it.

According to the GP 'Patient Access' blurb it seems there is also a link to GP Online Services / NHS Services?

I must ask about those things ,thankyou.

Well I wrote to our M.P.James Daly, re elderly people being excluded because they have no internet, don’t feel safe using them and many could not afford them anyway so are quite excluded .
An answer has come today and is a prize example of exactly what I mean.
Full of jargon and terms only meaningful to people really at home with and competent in using computers.
Never mind there being some Government help to purchase and get lessons in how to use them ——- many will not be able to leave their homes through infirmity and many also will still not really be able to afford to buy etc.

A classic example of blinding people with Science.
He will get a reply - because he is missing the point entirely.

Age U.K will also no doubt reply to him .
I cannot understand very much , so many others will be really confused.

Hey Ho, the months roll by so quickly don’t they.
Summer will be over before we know it!

Well kitchen put to bed, tidy lounge  ,a milky de caf coffee with son and up early for Eye appointment.Son is also lleaving very esrly tomorrow to Head Office ,usually once a month there is a meeting etc.
He will stay overnight.

Well bath and bed .
Cheerio, look after yourselves.
Viktoria.

It's as though the older one gets, the quicker the hours turn on the dial.

I simply cannot believe March is on our doorstep.
Will need to organise my seeds and heat up the greenhouse.

I will leave clearing the old dead plants until April as insects will still be sheltering.

At this rate, it won't be long until we bring in the Christmas decorations.

I signed up for a repeat prescription order service online with our GP surgery, a couple of years ago - but never actually managed to get it to go through, so reverted to hanging on to the 'phone! Progress!

Our GP's surgery has a Repeat Prescription service, which means that I never have to order my medication.  Since we live in a village some distance from the nearest dispensing chemist's the surgery has its own dispensary, so I just have to walk up the road to collect my medication there and when I collect it I am given a slip of paper telling me the date of the next collection.

We can also see our patient records and test results on the Systmonline page.  Makes interesting reading sometimes! Appointments can be booked through this site, so there's no waiting for someone to answer the phone at busy times.

Just a bit light heartedness really , or silliness whatever way you are thinking .

It is not a nice day, again, Tuesday was beautiful,   my friend and I went to Chelmsford,  if was such a nice day and I got my washing  dry, I  expect you all think i am obsessed  with washing  but I do like to get it out and back in dry.

Just got to finish off the last curtain I have altered, will be happy to see them up, never again will I  alter curtains unless they are unlined, to make things easier I altered them from the top but I still had to get the lining right.

I look for short cuts L.M. !
I would have done it the lazy way from the bottom, mine are a camel on cream check in the lounge so the actual edge of the squares were a good straight guide when I shortened them .
It would have irritated me had they not been level.
I am sure you have done a good job.

Well all good at eye appointment today.
Pressure 9.1 Rt eye and 11 in L eye.
No drops now  other than those for dry eye.
Many thanks folks for your kind wishes about this ,it has been a long haul .

Son has just phoned to say he has arrived BUT the red warning light is back after supposedly being sorted at a Volvo garage yesterday.
He is to take it back on his return. Not very good is it!

Gosh March tomorrow!
The  weeks fly by so quickly and as has been said ,perhaps more so as we get older.
Is it worth putting Christmas Decorations away or even taking them down!

Must go to the Cemetery, there are always lots of Snowdrops lovely to see in the big drifts.
My late friend’s baby grandson is buried there, a cot death, she is dead now,a good friend and I like to remember her.
She is buried at Crawshawbooth,up the valley,I can’t get there but like to go to the baby’s grave so close by me, she would appreciate that.
The baby’s daddy is also dead now and in his little son’s grave so my friend would really appreciate me going.
I miss her very much.

So interesting coming home from Rochdale over the moors, still not yet green yet, but such good views with the tall tower blocks of Manchester  in the distance.

Look after yourselves everyone and thanks again.
Viktoria.

As it's leap year I've been planning to ask a man on a date .

I warned him that I would but yesterday he was ill so I had to do it by text .

I offered an old fogey date ( he's 4 years older than me ) at the age UK centre where they have a restaurant and activities . I suggested line dancing or alternatively a film as I want to see " one love " Bob Marley story

Fell asleep before 9pm so didn't see the nice answer . : he can't dance 🩰 no balance but likes food and films !
When he's better

On the health front .
I had displaced crystals .menieres  which has affected my balance for past 2 months . I've been avoiding going on computer or phone WiFi (hence my absence on posts ) + avoiding stairs and shopping unaccompanied.

The plus side is I had a birthday 65 and am now entitled to MHSOP
mental health services for older people

I have become someone in need of care and Adult social services are helping me get on a housing list...for a place with an alarm cord or at least get an automatic fall allerters .. gadget which will call someone if I'm unconscious.
Age UK  can help me fill in forms
+ Another service is looking if my flat needs adapting + even if I can have a personal shopper for 6 weeks
Otherwise I have to shop every few days but not carry more than 4lbs (2 kg )
My sister always gives me a bag of shopping on a Sunday...I don't write a list but it's what she's got on b1g1free .meals she's made treats or things she thinks i.ll need
Sometimes she texts to ask what I need if she's heading 4 a weekly shop .

Once a month I ask the father of the lad I mentor to add some things for me to their weekly shop . +
I try to find someone every couple of weeks to share & carry market purchases
Leicester market has pound a bowl system big silver bowls so about 6 bananas . 4 avocados 7 + potatoes

Even if I give away half it's still cheaper than supermarket food  but I can only just carry to nearest bus stop . Or I don't buy potatoes and maybe get a punnet of strawberries or kiwis or red 🫑 peppers

I can't eat most other fruit and vegetables as
the skin triggers IBS reactions .

For someone who uses food bank they can feel helpful and accept the free produce  in exchange for carrying my bag to busstop . Or I donate the half I can't carry to nearby community shop I sometimes give some bananas to the falafel stall where they make smoothies. He always gives discount when I bring new customers and if I'm feeling under weather his special orange carrot apple banana &;ginger smoothie 🥤 is a real pick up

The orange & beetroot one is special too

Gosh, Brigidmac, you deserve medals for bravery, perseverance  and fortitude.
I hope you get the help you need, keep us posted.

Well guess what —— it is raining -!
And—- bin day today!
And my milk bill for February must be paid !
I don’t know how I stand the excitement.

In a “ sorting out “mood - I keep old bits of cloth for things like paint rags etc, well son will need some no doubt so picked out some good ones for him.
The rest in the shed with  tins of paint , rollers  ,brushes etc.

It seemed strange this morning with no drops to put in my eyes, since just before Covid lockdown 2020,there have been so many .
(Only those for dry eyes now .)
I am very grateful.

Best wishes to those unwell, some complicated conditions which must be very difficult.
No news of my little friend, so I assume she is still in hospital .
Poor soul, but her daughters do seem to be more involved now so I hope she is at least more settled.

Ours has this named system too where we can order repeat prescriptions and in theory see the test results but not always. We used to be able to book appts through this too , but post covid they removed this option which is a nuisance and we have to go through their phone triage service with a trained receptionist we’re told, to see if we are allowed to see a nurse who can only take blood, a nurse who can do other things, a nurse practitioner who can prescribe or in theory a gp , however the gp option is never given. You have to see one of the nurse options first who then might then say you have to make an appt with a nurse who is allowed to do x or y and then when you see them three weeks later, they say oh you need an appt with a gp but it’ll be another 3 weeks before they will give you a gp phone appt. It’s not a great system imo.

Getting old or older is a headache.... In my own head, I am 17 but my body tells me I am 76. What can one do, other than try and keep fit. I used to pack so much in a day... Working, cooking, cleaning...

Anyway, glad you are getting help my dear. Pull cords are alright if you are close to them. Our scheme offer us cords you hang round your neck, like grotty looking pendants...😂 enjoy your evening

Thanks Viktoria for your kind words I think everyone with health problems has those qualities.

Louisa Maud yes there are even apps which you can have on your mobile phone

I'm looking into the watch alarms or neck ones . The ones where you push the button yourself are about £60 per year cheaper than the automatic ones that can sense if you are unconscious. + Send messages to your friends or relatives.

Marion I think I'm 30 in my head .

My mother is 93 and drives .walks gardens and chips wood 🪓🪵 for her fire 🔥
Which makes me feel that my body is  older than hers  .

Had a lovely day today, took some old clothes to a textile exhibition they are making new collages next week .and also wanted things for costumes for world book day and they invited me to go and do multi lingual storytelling with sign language there next Saturday. A sit down activity !!

A friend is coming to stay for a few days tomorrow between house refurbishment. She's an easy going  independent guest .

I had to call the balance doctor as the exercises he gave me caused more woosiness when i.lay on my left ...he told me  to stop them + rebook and appointment where they can examine my reflexes more thouroughly

Have an appointment with housing people on 14th  and a hearing test but am definitely bouncing back .

I empathise, brigidmac.
I, too, have balance issues - hydrocephalus.
I get by using a stick, but don't venture out in windy conditions.
I have a walker, but too afraid to use it. Where I live, I have to negotiate steep slopes whichever way I go. The brakes stop the wheels going round, but then the whole walker slides on the pavements!

Saw a neurological specialist in December. Apparently they want me in for a lumbar drain "sometime in the New Year"?!
For anyone in the North West it will be at The Walton Centre, Liverpool.

Whew!
Such a lot of difficult conditions you both have, but you soldier on!

How interesting re the clothes, I have never forgotten a display, made by a student and us probably still on show, amongst which was a jacket made from —— the  individual seed heads of dandelions - how ever they got the little fluffy things on their stalks to behave I cannot imagine !
In Manchester’s Museum if Science and Industry .

I have been toying with the idea of volunteering to hear readers at the nearby school where formerly I worked .
I think all the staff even the young ones will have left now and it went through a bad patch.Having been the second best in the league tables to much further down the table.
Seems to have recovered.

Son is back today after a visit to head office and he called on  some friends.

No church this morning, the service  is a joint one at Edenfield Church,an ancient Chapel of Rest for pilgrims on their way to Whaley Abbey .
No bus service and the people who would give me a lift are not able to go.
Coincidentally the old head of the school I mentioned was Lay Preacher there.

A cold- very-  morning but bright sunshine too.
Got some cheerful daffodils when I shopped yesterday.

Feel much better this morning
Start two new drugs today after finally getting the mess sorted out , well double dose of Ramipril and a new one , Forxiga,( Dapagliflozin ) ——-
We will see how I get on with those.

A chicken curry for tea as I have no idea if son’s time of arrival  so I will make  it this morning to heat up.
I forgot to get crispy poppadums!

Emailed my friend whose son died so suddenly but no answer as yet,I might phone later or write a letter.
She had no part in the funeral, but is almost 90 and felt unable to do the journey even in her  other son’s car .
There must be no sense of closure for her.How very difficult .
It is her B/day  the 8th,  I think a blank card will be the most tactful.

Well lots to do and I hope everyone is having reasonable weather and those with health problems get some improvement.

A bright sunny day and my washing line is full of towels.  My mother would have been horrified to see washing out on a Sunday, but we are going away for a few days and I want to keep the laundry situation up to date.  I really don't know where it all comes from with just the two of us.  The laundry basket seems to be always full, like the Magic Porridge Pot (Brothers Grimm) and I don't know the magic word to stop it.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Sunny here too. I'm watching a film about the life of one of my Facebook friends .

It's called  " Give them Wings "  based on a wheelchair user s life . He's from Darlington ( up north ) I think the accents are authentic . His mother is played by Royal Wilcox .
@ well spotted KG   correction ; spellcheck has changed Toyah to Royal

I got to know him thru family history research

It's a sad film

May go for a little walk while the sun lasts

I LL see if I can post a pic of one of the textile displays
Did it but it's very large .

I think there is another scam circulating .
From AgeUK , well——- ?
A young man is speaking of injustice ,Thomas I seem to remember but using Age UK to ask for funds .
Well they deal specifically with the problems of the older generation .
I must check with them .
Will keep you posted.
Viktoria.
