Hello,
Looking for a newspaper story (likely obit or death notice) for Yank John Edward Major (1848-1913) in the The Sydney Morning Herald - Sep 6, 1913. He died Aug 24, 1913. I could really use an image of this.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

The Sydney Morning Herald is digitised in trove and is free to search and view for this time period.

However, I can't see any obituary for John Edward MAJOR on 6 Sept 1913. There is an obituary for a Major- General John SLADE.

No deaths on the NSW BDM index for anyone with surname MAJOR on 24 Aug 1913, or a John MAJOR in 1913. :-\ Do you mean he died in the US?
-
Perhaps it is a slight death notice or story unrelated to his death. I have the Sept 6, 1913 newspaper date from My Heritage- I just don't have the page number for the Herald that day.

There is a tree on Ancestry stating that he died 1913 Virginia USA and a photo of his grave, with his wife Evelina.
Do you know what connection he had to Australia?

You can search trove limiting to "Sydney Morning Herald" and "1913" and "September" (on the right hand side bar). I can't see anyting on the 6th September that looks possible.

This relates to the Virginia John Edward Major.

briankaess in his original request was looking for the American John Edward Major.
Wondering why he was mentioned in the SMH?

Not sure if there is any Australia connection. John Edward Major's Father (William W Major) co-owned the Lexington Hotel in Virginia, and some members of the Family were friends to Robert E Lee, so maybe they were an ex-Confederate Family looking for friendlier confines, who knows?
