Hello,
Patrick RUBBERY was discharged from the Hampshire Regiment - 37th & 67th Foot on 21/01/1871 after 10 years and 3 days service according to an entry on FindMyPast.
Can anyone confirm, or otherwise, this may have been the above Patrick RUBERY and, if "Yes", please show details, date of enlistment etc., should that be possible.
Thank you,
BAC3

Also, the 1906 obit which Sandra uploaded earlier states that Patrick (born 1845) had been living in Kingston, Ontario "for 40 years". So Patrick can't be the army fellow discharged in 1871, unless the obit mention of lengthy residence was off by a few years.
Also, if you already have the FindMyPast military record doesn't that confirm when he enlisted, etc?
Wouldn't his enlistment be mid-January 1861?
-
The obit would only be as good as the informants knowledge. At that time it was not unusual but quite common for dates, births, marriage, aged etc to be reported wrongly. :-\

Is that just a summary of FOLD 3 ? You need other information from it ?
Might have a friend who can look for you.

If it's the same Patrick does BAC3 know when PR was released from Parkhurst Prison? Was it prior to January 1861?

His FindMyPast record is from the Chelsea: Pensioners' Discharge Documents 1760-1887.

Similar heading to ancestry (held by FOLD 3) UK, Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges, 1715-1925 - just in case Lance does not return for a while, have asked a friend to take a look for us.

The only surviving record appears to be that entry in the Discharge register. He was in 37th Foot.
There's an 1861 army "index" record of a Pat Rubbery in 70th Foot at Canterbury. This is probably the man in the 1861 census that Sandra posted.

Thanks Shaun, that clears that up. :-\ Sounds like the same guy.

Good Evening,
Possibly if I could "top and tail" the potential army career, I should say he was released from Parkhurst Prison on 15/11/1860 and was married in July 1871. This would allow adequately for the 10 years and 3 days military service.
It is a pity the FindMyPast entry did not contain any personal details :'( :'(
