Title: Wilson East End - Photo Mystery!
Post by: eviemw on Wednesday 24 April 24 20:35 BST (UK)
I found this photo in my late grandaunt's collection recently and have been trying to work out the date (thinking 1880’s) and location since.

This line of family were bombed out of their home in the east end of London (Custom House, West Ham) during WW2 so lost almost everything. Hardly any photos of them survived so when I found this I was devastated at almost having the oldest photo of one of them that has mostly had ripped away. You can only make out an arm and ladies dress sadly.

Can anyone decipher the name of the photographer/studio? P J Wilson?
Or the street name? ‘Coronation.. 19 wa’

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you in advance  :)

According to the 1891 Census, there was a photographer William G Wilson at 14 Victoria St Paddington
His two sons are also listed as photographers
Percival George Wilson aged 20
Harry James Wilson aged 14...who was also blind in one eye!
You can find out more about them on the historical photoLondon website

From the little bit we can see of the cardstock it's
quite possible it's 1870's-80's.
looked on PhotoLondon at all the Wilson's listed & none look likely
candidates so may not have been taken there.
Is there anything on the back?

Thank you!

I did think around 1880s which would confirm it's an ancestor i've never seen and would love to have done.. such a shame it's in such poor condition  :(

Nothing on the back at all, some of the layers of card have come away but checked it all thoroughly and no writing or any other type of clue!

I can see there is another initial before the suspected J Wilson but i'm unable to work it out...
