Post by: Brian on Friday 23 September 05 17:35 BST (UK)
I would be grateful if anyone has any information on the whereabouts and family of Thomas Canning b 1820 Titchborne HAM and listed in Sommers Town Havant in 1871 as a Shepperd (!) with his wife Jane b 1820 Upham and children Thomas 1855 Bishops Waltham and Emily 1861 Havant.
Thank you

Thankyou Tanja
It seems very likely that it is him as the wife, son and daughters ages would seem to correlate (and taking into account your PS!).

As Martha is 11 it would seem that they married before 1851 so hopefully they will be on that Census too.

Many thanks

Brian :)

Hi Brian,

I am a descendant of Thomas Canning (Cannon). Thomas and Mary (Riley) had Rose Canning, my great grandmother on father's side. I believe I have a picture of Thomas, Jane and Family while living in England. I'm wondering what your connection to the family is.

Hello KRS,
I was researching for a friend whose grandmother was Jane Emma daughter of Thomas and Mary.  Jane married William Shipley.  I am sure she would be delighted if you have such a photo and would share it with her.

Hi there,
I will definitely try to locate the picture now. I used to look at it and wonder who these people were. I'm excited to think I am getting close to matching names with faces! I'm just starting out researching the family, so I'm still quite a novice. It gets confusing when the same names were used for both men and women over the generations. I'm assuming Cannon got changed to Canning in the US but would love to know. Also, I believe Thomas made his way to US via Novia Scotia first where he met May Riley. I'm curious if other siblings left England. I seem to think Emily did. These are all questions for your friend. My great-great gf Thomas and Jane were siblings.
