Does anyone know of this couple who had a daughter Mary born about 1841 Cork Ireland who went to Australia and New Zealand. Mary had two sons Maurice 1865 and Albert 1872 to a Mr Morton in Australia.
In NZ she married Edward (Edwin) Hall in Hokitika 1877 and they had a son John Edward in 1880.
When she died in Christchurch NZ in 1926 her parents were given as above but when she was admitted to hospital late in her life her parents were listed as Timothy and Ellen (nee Walsh)

Reposting my request from 2005. Have recently revisited this block wall and hoping for a restart.
I am wishing to find out who Marys parents were? I have the other details for her.

Thankyou for this information. Possibly going to be near impossible to sort this one out! I no nothing other than what i have written about Mary. When she married in Hokitika in 1877 the Intentions to marry listing said she had been in NZ for 4 months coming from Australia.
Would I ever be able to trace how she came from Ireland to Australia?

There are passenger arrivals, on Ancestry, of a number of Mary MCCARTHYs from Cork, born within 5 years of 1841, arriving in New South Wales.
Are you sure the lady admitted to hospital, is the same as the person whose death you have?

"...Mary born about 1841 Cork Ireland..." What is your source for age and birthplace?
"..Mary had two sons Maurice 1865 and Albert 1872 to a Mr Morton in Australia."
Where in Australia were they born? Or...what is your source for them being born in Australia, and to a MORTON father?
Where/ when were Maurice and Albert married, and died.........how did they name their birthplace and parents on their marriage records?
".....In NZ she married Edward (Edwin) Hall in Hokitika 1877.....?
Can you please list all the information on this marriage certificate?
".....When she died in Christchurch NZ in 1926 her parents were given as above....."
Can you please list all the information on this death certificate ?

Never mind answering my query above.
I have found what I was seeking.
Associated thread informs us.....
Child Maurice was registered at birth as McCARTY
Albert was born in NZ
There was not a registered marriage for McCARTY/MORTON

Hi again, further to above, Albert never married - I met him when i was a child.
Mary was living with her son Maurice near time of her death in 1926, Maurice died and gave detailsl
Maurice died 1939 in ChCh NZ aged 74.
Albert died 1960 in ChCh NZ aged 88 No birth record able to be found anywhere for Albert.
So it seems she was in a defacto with Maurice and changed Maurice Jnr name to Morton at some time and also Alberts. AGGGGH, these naughty great grandmothers I have!
