Title: Nairn
Post by: throckenholt on Sunday 09 October 05 22:11 BST (UK)
Hi,

I have finally tracked my ancestor to Wigtownshire (after many years of just having Scotland, with a vague rumour about Kirkudbright - which threw up the surname but not the right family).

Can anyone look up for me
Peter Nairn, born approx 1816/17  possibly son of William Nairn, carpenter.

And can you please enlighten me - what area does WIgtownshire encompass ?

thanks,

Julie

Hi Julie- could you give us a bit more to go on such as how you've managed to tie Peter down to Wigtownshire & have you got him on any census with family , the additional names might help....

Have you had a look at the following? It has a map of the area Wigtownshire covers & lots of fantastic family history information....

Hope to hear back shortly
All the best

He is in the 1851 census for Blisworth in Northamptonshire, claiming birth place of Wigtownshire (all other census helpfully just state Scotland !).

I have his birth date in 1816/17 from a number of census returns, and his fathers name and profession from his marriage certificate.

I have no other information about location or other family names.

thanks for your interest,
Julie

Sorry Julie but I haven't come up with anything.
Did go to the library & checked the Wigtownshire freepress archives for Peter Nairn, the only thing that came up was :-
Mrs Peter Nairn birth of a son at Birkenhead in 1881 & Mrs Peter Nairn birth of a son at Manchester in 1894, don't think it will be of any relevance unless they moved around a heck of a lot!!!! Who ever they were they definitely wanted to let the folks back home know!
All the best

thanks for trying Anne.  My info on Peter is limited to what I put in the original request.  I know nothing about siblings etc.  He is being very elusive, and has been for years !

I know this is a very old post, but I just found it whilst looking for information on my great x3 grandfather peter Nairn... the man you describe here is definitely the same one I have information on. I have lots more information on the rest of the Nairn family, which I will happily share with you! I am new to this forum, am I able to pm you my email? Throckenholt?
