Title: Census Lookup Please Oppenheim
Post by: proteantime on Monday 10 October 05 08:07 BST (UK)
Hi!

I have found records of my ancestors on the 1881 Census and would love to know if they are on the earlier census returns going back to 1851.

Siegmund Oppenheim    abt 1839    Hamburg (B S)
Adele Oppenheim       abt 1851    Schwerin Mecklenburg
Ernst F. Oppenheim    abt 1876    Manchester
Frederick S. Oppenheim    abt 1873    Manchester
George Emil Oppenheim    abt 1880    Manchester
Matilda A. Oppenheim    abt 1879    Manchester
Annie Williams       abt 1862    Manchester,

They are recorded in 1881 as living at 15 East Beach, Lytham, Lancashire
and may have moved to London before the 1891 census.   There would also have been another son on the earlier returns (I'm hoping) called Eugen.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for your time and energy.

Goodness!

I wonder if it could be the same man.  It is interesting that he dropped the 'er' off Oppenheim and that his wife was not with him ten years earlier.

It could be that he left his wife and son Eugen in Germany until he had established his business and then sent for them.

Could anyone let me know if they were still in Lancashire in 1891?

Thank you immensely.

 :D

Wonderful so we now have an indication that the kids were still at home and that they had staff.  That's incredibly useful thank you.

I notice the names of the servants are not there.  Were they listed?

Siegmund and Adele had a son in Germany before they emigrated called Eugen.  Does anyone have a record of him being in Lancashire at the time?

Many eternal thanks

Thanks  ;)

I wanted to know if the 2 nurses listed as being on their staff were still present with them ten years later.

It seems the children grew out of the need for "nurses" and now required a French governess.

Fascinating stuff!

Thanks again, warmest wishes, Kirsten Beach, Netherlands
