Does anyone out here have any Wood ancestors from the Kirktown of Auchterless in Aberdeenshire?

I am decended from John WOOD and Margaret BARCLAY (m. 23 Nov 1786) of Auchterless.
I would be happy to share what little information I have, should it be of interest.
Best Wishes,
Kevin Wood

Alex,
I'm not connected but the MI's index (Aberdeenshire & North East Scotland Family History Society) lists more than 40 "WOODS" buried in Auchterless Kirkyard and surname searches are free.

Good Luck!

Hi, Kevin
After recent discoveries and information I am wondering whether your John and Margaret may be part of my family as well. :)
"My" John would have had definite Auchterless connections, as well as Turriff. Do you have the names of their children or John's parents?
I'm more than happy to share any info I have :)
Many thanks -

I have seen this John Wood (1759 - 1844) and Margaret Barclay (1753 - 1841) in the records. They seem to have had 4 children: James (1788 -1824), Peter (1790 - 1853), Jane (1791 -1855) and John (1795- 1891)
I have not seen a marriage or children for James or Jane. Peter married Jane Cran and had at least 6 children. John married Margaret Cruickshank and had at least 4 children.
Unfortunately I cannot see a direct link with this family and my 2x Great Grandfather: John Wood (1815 -1879) and his wife Elizabeth Howie (1815 -1885)
There are so many Wood families in Auchterless it is difficult to sort the Wood from the trees!
There are also a lot of illigitimate births in the Kirksession records.
Any information on where you fit on could be helpful. I can let you have the data I have collected over the years it it would help.

Hi, Alex
Many thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I'm in the throes of trying to sort the Woods from the trees, as you so accurately put it!
Any leads you can give me would be very gratefully received.

Gentlemen:
I have been taking a break from geneaolgy over the summer and just noticed the recent activity in this thread.
Unfortunately, I don't have any information regrading John (1759)'s parents.
I am trying to get what information that I do have into some form that makes it easy to share. (I have been using PAF5)
Best Wishes,

Message to Alex Wood.
I am also connected to John Wood 1817-1879 and Elizabeth Wood (Howie) 1816-1885 via their last son Alexander Robert (Robb) Wood 1859-1942 who married Ellen Agnes Wood (Cushan) 1853-1923. Alexander and Ellen's second son Wallace Hyacinth Wood was my Grandfather. I am trying to find out more details on Peter Wood who died in 1879 who was supposedly John Woods' father.
If you are able to help me, that would be great.

Hi there, Leon Latta back again,
After further investigation, I have found that Peter WOOD and his son John WOOD both died in 1879 and the records show 'place of death' as 'Old Machar, Aberdeenshire'.
Can anyone shed some light on this 'WorkHouse' and some details of activities there, around that time.
Thanks again - Regards - Leon

Hi, Below is a link to information re Aberdeen workhouses. Oldmachar was the west side of Aberdeen then. The workhouse in Fonthill Road was later used as army barracks. If you "Google" Oldmachar Workhouse you may find more information.
