Title: John Rae m. Margaret Dalgleish. Hawick 1807
Post by: J1507 on Wednesday 19 October 05 15:08 BST (UK)
I have tried Scotlands people looking for death records to obtain parents of John Rae m Margaret Dalgleish in Hawick 1807.
Could anybody help with cemetery records/head stones, I know parents to Margaret Dalgleish but not of John Rae not even sure when he was born but have an idea. Thank you in anticipation. Best regards Jim

Hi there,

I don't have any death or cemetery records, but I do have a copy of the 1851 census for Hawick and neither John nor Margaret seem to appear in it.  Either they have moved from the area or they had passed away by this time.  If indeed they had died pre-1855, you wouldn't find the death records on scotlandspeople as it would pre-date statutory registration.  If you are lucky it might be in the OPRs, but deaths are not as frequently registered in those as births and marriages.  Sorry that I can't be more help, but it might help you narrow things down a little.

Cheers,
Clare
