Flintshire Lookup Requests / Re: Holywell Census 1851/1861 - James Hall
« on: Sunday 17 July 05 13:28 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace an ancestor - James Hall.

In April, 1857 he heckled the Right Hon. William Gladstone at a parliamentary election meeting held at the King's Head Hotel, Holywell. James is mentioned as "...of the Crescent Mill" in Holywell, so he might have been the owner of the mill.

I would be most grateful if someone could please look up the 1851/1861 Census for Holywell to see if James and his family appears.

Geoff Hall

hello,
i think that i have found james in holywell for you. listed below:

1861 census
living at brynford st, holywell, flintshire

hester hall        head 72  born in newtown, montgomery   occ: proprietor of houses
ann hall            dau   45    "                  "                   "                       "              "
james hall         son  42    "                  "                    "       (says flannel or flour mill - unclear)
                                                                              manufacturer employing 75 hands

john hall           son 38    "                 "                     "              "             "             "
harriet davies  serv 16    "                  "                     "          general servant

it says flannel or flour mill for occupation, it is very squashed up and  unclear. i would lean towards flannel, because of the amount of personnel he employed.

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: DRISCOLL, Wrexham 1851/1861
« on: Tuesday 07 June 05 15:09 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Driscoll last heard of in the 1841 census in Lambpit St, Wrexham along with Sarah aged 50,Elizabeth 15, Jane 11 and Mary 85.
The Driscoll that I'm primarily seeking is I suspect a daughter, Sarah, not in residence at this time. Sarah married Jesse Griffiths at the age of 25 in the Independent Chapel, Wrexham. She was then working as a servant at Bache Poll, Chester.

hello,
the only thomas driscoll that i can see as a possibility on the 1861 census, is as follows:

1861 census
living at 8 crescent terrace,  wrexham regis, wrexham

thomas driscoll  head      75   born in ireland                         occ: retired shoemaker
sarah driscoll     wife       73  born in ellesmere, shropshire
thomas richard boarder  30   born in north wales                       draper's assistant

i hope that this helps you
