Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Decipher name
« on: Sunday 07 March 21 23:14 GMT (UK)  »
I can't provide much in the way of background information and don't know if the name is Gaelic or not. But, what I can say is that they were in Queensland in the early 1990's and that's as far as I have got with trying to figure out who they are. I'm glad to see that it's not just me who is stumped by the name.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Decipher name

Hi, this should be an easy one but it's got me stumped, I can't work out the surname. I can see clearly 'Annette' and the surname begins with 'B' but that's about as far as I can go with it.

Her husband, Samuel Williams, died in 1878 in Cornwall aged 54. Elizabeth took her family to Australia in 1882 and died in Bundaberg in 1911 aged 86.

Hello everyone and a massive thank you!
Sorry for the slow response, have had a hectic few days and haven't had a chance to look back at what you all have been doing. An absolutely stellar response and outcome.
The book identification provides a few small details which tie into the photograph - the book was published in Maryborough and Elizabeth Williams is buried in Bundaberg but had also lived in Maryborough where her daughter, Fanny Moore, lived. Elizabeth Williams died in 1911 and the book was published in 1894 so that gives the timeframe in which the photo was taken.
Thanks again everyone.

I was wondering if anyone might be able to identify the title of the book in this photograph of my great, great, great grandmother? Unfortunately, I don't have a higher resolution version available and I don't know if the name of the book can be determined but there are some fiendishly clever people in this group, so one never knows what can be done.

Very nice, thank you. Any idea what year that might be? Possibly pre-WW1 20thC?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Joseph Allcock / Ann ??? marriage

A bit out of left field but on my mother's side, I go back to a Samuel Moore who lived in Annaghmore, Armagh. In 1862, his son, William, married Maria Alcock from Drumnott - from the marriage record, it gives Maria's father's name as Joseph Alcock and mother as Ann (Potts).

Hi,
I think I may possibly have a link - on my mother's side, I go back to a Samuel Moore who lived in Annaghmore, Armagh. His son, William, married Maria Alcock from Drumnott and in 1863 they emigrated to Australia. From the marriage record, it gives Maria's father's name as Joseph Alcock and mother as Ann Potts. Interestingly, a Robert and Sarah Potts were witnesses at William Moore's wedding in 1862.

Australia / Re: Passenger List "Saldanha" 1863
« on: Saturday 24 October 20 01:58 BST (UK)  »
Sorry to resurrect a long-deceased thread but I was wondering if anyone ever had any luck in tracking down a passenger list for the Saldanha for 1863?

My interest is in William and Maria Moore (nee Alcock) from Armagh. They arrived in Rockhampton in 1863 and then traveled overland to Maryborough.
