Armed Forces / Assistance Required - Deciphering
« on: Sunday 19 June 22 10:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,
I have received the service record for my late grandfather who served in the RAF 1940s/1950s - and I am struggling to decipher and understand it.
Is there anybody who can assist?
Would I have to post the service record here, or parts of it, or can I private message those that can help?
Thanks in advance,
AllStar

Who do you think you are related to? Alfred or Robert?
If you post 3 times you can private message me.
Thanks

« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 22:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
While searching the 1939 Register on Find My Past I accessed households that aren't my relatives. Am going to post detials on here in the hopes that someone else is searching for these families:
Carew Household (8 people)
16 Freeport Grove ,  Liverpool C.B., Lancashire, England
Patrick and Agnes parents and 6 children.
Have also found records relating to one of thier children Kathleen Carew.

Willans Household  (3 People)
48 Yew Tree Road ,  Liverpool C.B., Lancashire, England
Frank and Ellen, plus daughter Edith

If want more information about either of these records please message me.
Hope this can help someone :)

Hi I have just seen this seen this post today.
I did get the birth certificate for Alfred and it gave the same information Copperpunt has said.
It's also amazing that Copperpunt is related :) I am going to PM him/her.
Thank you osprey for your information, I never knew about the marriage banns.
I have come across the Robert Wright on the 'Ann Walters' as a possibly, but I have never seen the original agreement, thanks seaweed.
Looks like me and copperpunt have some more research to look into.
Thank you

Hi
Walton Institution is probably Walton Hospital. That would of been the nearest hospital to Cambridge Road.
If you are local to Liverpool, Liverpool Central Library will have mircofilms of old newspapers, and newspapers you can search on their computers if you have a library card. Plus as you mention Bootle it might of been in Sefton newspapers so Crosby Library will have newspapers useful to you as well.
Good Luck

Hi,
If he was a Lancashire Policeman might be able to get police records through http://www3.lancashire.gov.uk/education/record_office/records/policesearch.asp says only up 1925 but might he have been a policeman before WW2? If not you could contact them saying you are related asking about any records from after WW2.

Hi Jill and Jane
I have not been on this forum for ages, and it lovely to come back and find what further discussions have come from my questions. I will have to look into the Balshaw line myself, and further my tree, as I must confess I only have name on my tree briefly, as Ellen's maiden name. I know it has been a while since you both posted, but thank you both for the further information.

I read the witness as Hel(l)en Cron(n)ey. I think the scribe just wasn't sure of his spelling!
Jill

Thanks Jill.

Hi there, I am descended from the same Flynn family you are posting about.  The handwriting on these old records is pretty awful.
I can provide some of the information you are interested in learning about.

Hi there Magfly,
I'm glad to hear from a fellow descent. I hardly have any records on the Flynn side unfortunely. But what I have got seems to match up with yours, as she does have a brother John born 1844. Would Mary Laverty sometimes be translated as Lafferty?
To talk more you can personal message me on here. But as a new member I think you need to make at least three posts before you can do that.
