Technical Help / Re: Labels in WORD

I don't believe EXCEL has an equivalent of the WORD Mailings option. With this you can specify exactly which labels you are using (eg. Avery A4, Product L7651).

It's very easy to move labels in WORD :-

Select the label you wish to move
Press CTRL and X
Move the cursor to the target blank label
Press CTRL and V

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: What date is this?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think it must be 1788 as you say, though I have to admit that I've never seen eights formed like that before. Another step up the learning curve!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What date is this?

The following shows a date in the header of a record of burials. At first glance it appears to be 1700 but those zeroes don't look anything like the zeroes in the burial records. Any ideas please?

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for information on a Warrington address.

Castle Street was near the centre of Warrington, close to Sankey Street, and used to be the shortest street in Warrington. It was demolished in the 1970s along with many other streets and buildings in that area to make way for the new Golden Square shopping centre.

Technical Help / Re: Scanning a whole photo album to USB.
« on: Wednesday 30 December 20 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
During this strange year I've been keeping busy going through old family photo albums and scanning and saving each individual photo and there really isn't any need to remove each photo to scan it. Why not scan a complete album page and then use software (eg, IrfanView) to crop each photo from the page as a separate entity? For example, scan the first page and save it somewhere with a name such as page1.jpg. Crop the first photo on that page and save it with a name such as photo1.jpg. Then reload page1.jpg and crop out photo2.jpg and so on until the whole page has been done. Then repeat the process with page 2 of the album and so on until all pages have been scanned and all photos individually saved. It's time consuming but the end result is very satisfying!

I would never ever take a photo of a photo using a camera or a phone because the result is always less than perfect. It is better to do that using a flat bed scanner, either a standalone one or that provided by an all-in-one printer. The result will then be 100% accurate and it is usually easy to specify the type of picture (colour, black and white, grayscale etc) as well as adjusting such things as resolution, brightness and contrast.

Technical Help / Re: Amazon Fire Tablet won't access the SD card
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 09:54 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for the link Greenrig. I've read it all but I'm afraid it hasn't solved my problem. Some of the things it mentions don't appear on my tablet and those that do don't work as stated. I guess I'll have to hope that a future software update fixes the problem. By the way, I know the SD card is OK as it works fine in my phone. Thanks again for your reply.
