What a wonderful story!

I don't use RootsChat as much as I should so I've only just seen this.  Who would have thought all of this would come from a simple posting asking for advice on finding a grave?

Well done to everyone who helped!

There's a Thomas Towers who died in Jun 1869 in Wolverhampton age 39 so I'm guessing this is the one.

Unfortunately it doesn't help with Benjamin Taylor though as I've already tried Wolverhampton for 1861-1871.

That's right, but it should be Benjamin Taylor.

I'm struggling to find Benjamin's death.  I've checked all local areas but can't find anything between 1861-1871.  My thought now is that maybe he was in prison, as there is a Benjamin Taylor imprisoned at Stafford in 1865 and he got 5 years penal servitude, which I think means imprisonment.  He should be out by the 1871 census though.

I'm really stuck as to where to look for answers now.

Staffordshire / 1871 census

Hi
I'm looking for confirmation of what I think I'm seeing.
On 1871 census I have Charlotte Taylor age 44 and living with daughter Jane Towers, a widow, and her family, living in Willenhall, Staffs.  I can't properly read the marital status of Charlotte, is she a widow as well?

Hi
Just noticed you are researching a George Washbrook.  Could you give me some more details of dates or names and I'll check what I've got and we may be able to exchange?
Thanks

Well that silly theory didn't work!  There are no entries that are in the same area for both people.

Yes, I wonder what happened to Jane's husband.

Just had a quick look for a marriage for Jane Taylor to her Mr Towers.  The only one that comes up is to a John Towers and they got married in Wigton in Lake District in Dec qtr 1866!  Could this really be them?

Can't find a death for him in the Walsall area but there are a few in the Lakes area.

My mind is working now...  Real long shot but what about if my Benjamin Taylor and this John Towers were working together somewhere and maybe there was some accident and they died together?  So then I would need to find both people in the same region and same date.

As you can see, I'm really stuck for ideas!

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to write to other local offices and hope for the best!  But again, if the informant is a hospital worker for example, I still won't know if I've got the right one.

Do you know if there is anywhere else I can look apart from death records?

Hi Tinam

That's right.

But Charlotte is listed as a widow in 1871, so I know he died in between 1861 and 1871.  If he died at home it would have been registered in Walsall or Wolverhampton, but neither of those have the death record I want.  So now I'm guessing I need to look outside the area but I have very little information to go on.

Thanks
