Thankyou, Barry and Nookie.

A Thomas Herbert Rice (my ggUncle) was born in Nov. 1870 in Liverpool, England. After the 1881 census and his Mother dying, he disappears off the face of the earth.

I have looked at America etc., but couldn't find him. Then last week an email from Family Search led me to finding this one. He fits in 'virtually' perfectly. I don't know when he arrived or who he was married to.

Thanks for that information, Barry.

I'm not sure when he arrived there.

Yes, he certainly is enticing, and I think you should look under all the proverbial stones related to him. IMHO it would be just as important to rule him out.

PB

Thanks. I will try and rule him in or out.

Having done some more poking around....

Unfortunately, I think I have to agree with *Sandra*'s findings on your most recent thread. It looks like "Chelsea" Thomas was born in Ohio, had a wife Emma, etc.

All the same, I think I would still contact the cemetery in Chelsea.

PB

I agree with you, but he must be somewhere, and the name and location add up.  :)

Many thanks for your time.

Colin

You're welcome  :)

Looking sideways.....

Do you know if any other family members may have gone to America? Cousin to Thomas? Another Rice rellie?

Grasping at more straws.

I'm not sure when the 1950 US census is to be released but I think relatively soon. It may help.

Also, I haven't gone back through to look again but did the grave record have a date or just year? The cemetery might be of help with an actual date if not.

PB

Not that I know of. I'll look into the 1950 census. It just had the date, but maybe a different person.  I may well email the cemetery.

Many thanks, again.

Colin

I find it hard to imagine William going all that way without a good reason for doing so. If he stayed with a Rice family, I suspect there is some possibility they were related. But finding them will probably be another needle in a haystack hunt.

Have you tried looking for a newspaper obit in the area of death or tried to contact the cemetery for any other info they may hold? Perhaps info about anyone in the same grave or cemetery?

Grasping at straws here but one never knows what might turn up.

PB

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Colin
