Hi Denise,

I am so happy to hear from you. I'd gotten to a virtual standstill on that side of the tree.

I would love to know more. I am active on ancestry.co.uk and GenesReunited. Are you on either of those?

I also have a lot of information that you might be interested in. Just let me know how I can help you, I am quite happy to.

I will PM you my email and maybe we can talk more about it?

Alana

Hi there,

I've just been looking over a scan of an old postcard to my Great Grandmother. It's dated 1919, sent from a field post office and is stamped 'passed by censor' So I'm assuming 'Jack' was in the military.

What I'm curious about is the triangular ink stamp in the top right hand corner, Does it tell anything about where the postcard was sent from?

I have sent the original and a scan with a higher contrast. Unfortunately a better scan is not available, and I've only got the one side of the postcard.

I haven't got a clue when it comes to stamps, so I'm hoping someone can help me!

Thanks in advance

Alana

Looks like they didn't get on very well

Apparently not!   ;D

Thanks so much for your help anyway. I'll have a nose around on those sites and see what I can find.

Much appreciated!  ;)

Their marital statuses are strange. On the 1871,1881 census it says she is married and on the 1891, widowed.

Is it possible that the rest of the children were not baptized? Did they do that in those days?

Trying to make sense of it is doing my head in!   ::)

Tati, That is fabulous!

Thank you so much. I've had my eye on her for a little while, but didn't have anything concrete but having three children all born the same year as the children I have records for is pretty good. (if that makes sense)

I'll keep looking in to them and see if I can find anything else.

I really, really appreciate your help!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if some one with more genealogy expertise than I do could help me out with this one.

I'm researching my mothers side. The Turners and have traced them back to Hulme, Manchester to an Ellen Turner (maiden name not known)

She was born in 1838 in Manchester. She worked as a seamstress/dressmaker. I have found her in the 1971,1881 and 1891 censuses.

1871-  12 Phillips St, Hulme. Occ: Seamstress (Married)
1881 -  8 Back Allin St, Chorlton-upon-medlock. Occ: Dressmaker (Married)
1891 -  58 Newcastle St, Hulme Occ: Dressmaker (Widowed)

In 1871 and 1881, Her husband was not listed, but she is still listed as married and by 1891 she is widowed.

Her first child was Ada in 1862 so I assume she was married to ____ Turner around that time.

She had 7 children between 1862 and 1877.

Ada Louise(1862), Kate (1864), William (1867) , Elizabeth (1869), Nellie (1873), Joseph McLean (1873), Matthew Henry (1877)

And that is all I know.

Is there anyone who could work out who she married through this information? or where she was in 1841/1851/1861. I've found multiple listings for Ellen Turners but nothing concrete to go on.

Any pointers or help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Alana
