Hi Sandy
I'm afraid I have had no luck so far. My relations lived in The Friary and I used to visit there in the 1950s with my parents.

Thank you for that. I have looked on the Francis Frith site and they have no photos of The Friary itself.

My great aunt and uncle (Dorothy and Les Hatcher) used to live in The Friary in Salisbury (before it was demolished and the flats were built), which I used to visit when I was young.  Does anyone have any photos, or know where I may find some, of The Friary as it used to be, ie the terraced houses which were on the left as you entered the road.

Hi Betty

I have a Charles Albert Skinner in my tree. He married my great aunt Alice Rose Pay in St Andrew's Church, Deal 22 Sep 1928.
Hope this info helps.

Can anyone please help. My great aunt used to live in The Friary in Salisbury in the old cottages which were demolished and replaced by flats. I have been trying to find any old photos of how it used to be. If anyone can assist I would be extremely grateful.

Sussex / Chickers Lane, Bosham/Westbourne

Hi Sean

That is a possibility - knowing what spelling was like years ago!  You would have thought a Registrar would know how to spell, but I guess even they could be excused!

It's probably as close as I can get.

Many thanks.

Jean

Is anyone able to confirm the existence of Chickers Lane, either in Bosham or Westbourne in 1846.
I have a copy birth certificate for an ancestor stating this address in 2 places, but I cannot locate it on any map.  The registration district is Westbourne but I believe the birth to have been in Bosham.
I have also looked under Chicken and Chickens in case this is a misinterpretation, but the writing on the certificate is very clear as "Chickers".

Have you tried Googling "Ash next Sandwich" - there is a St Nicholas Church there with churchyard burials (if you Google images there are photos).  Try www.kentarchaelogy.org.uk
