Ann Elliot born C1789 died 1857 Berwick Workhouse. Married to Joseph Gibson, b C1786 died 1860 Berwick Workhouse. In one census Ann's birthplace is listed as Elderton Northumberland. I have been searching for her parents for years, any advice or help would be much appreciated. Their son (Joseph Gibson) and his nephew (David McKenzie) came to Australia via the US and selected land after building many churches bridges etc as both were Stone Masons.

Thanks a lot for your help jds I do appreciate it. I'll just have to keep plugging away. I have on the same piece of paper that Lucy died in 1834 in Great Ecclestone and that she had brothers and sisters William, John Mary Ann and James. My problem is that this paper also has her father and grandfather with the same names as Robert Thompson, her husband, namely fathers John and grandfathers William.

Lucy's father John born Thistleton( whichI think is Roberts father) and Robert's father John born Ellel.
It is all very confusing!!!

Margaret Thompson's father on the baptism is given as a schoolmaster of Thistleton, hence my wondering if the 2 Johns and 2 Williams are transposed.

Oh well this family searching wasn't meant to be easy ::)

Thanks jds. On the LDS Family Search they have a death of Lucy Thompson Redman 1802, daughter of John Redman and Ellin Thompson! So maybe back to "the drawing board" or is the entry unreliable? My LucyThompson  supposedly died 1834 in Great Ecclestone.

Thanks Mo that marriage is for the eldest son John who moved to Birkenhead.
William Thompson the 2nd son followed his father in becoming a Poor Union Clerk, and when he died his estate came to his 2 nephews (John Cornall and Margaret Thompson's sons) in Australia. When their mother died (Margaret Thompson) they came to Australia and selected land. The property is called "Fleetwood" after the birthplace of James and Robert Cornall(the 2 nephews)
Thanks again

WONDERFUL :-* Thanks to you both. It is all new information. The eldest son John Thompson was born in Elswick,(I had his details) and I had William and Margaret(no birth or baptism) but not the Robert mentioned as a son.

Can't work out the other baptisms though for 1823.1825,1827 and 1830, as the record at the beginning of your message jds1949 has 1832 Margaret.

Margaret's age was 21 on her marriage in 1855!

Many thanks again to you both
A grateful Aussie
