Roscommon / Old Drum Cemetery, Co Roscommon
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 18:05 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking for burials of my Hogan family in the parish registers of St Peters Athlone but prior to 1840 at least there seems to be only two?
I know that they lived in the Drum area so would probably be buried at the old Drum cemetery.
Does anybody know if those burials would have been under a separate parish register to St Peters or if any other records still exist?

Roscommon / Hogan of Athlone
« on: Saturday 24 October 20 17:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have children of a Patrick Hogan and Margaret Hynes of Ardkeenan in Athlone:
Daniel 1837
John 1839
James 1848
Michael 1850
I can find baptisms for Daniel and John at St Peters Athlone but not for James or Michael.
Daniel and Michael were both of Garrynagowna when they married, Daniel, James and Michael all had children in Garrynagowna.

Can anybody find a baptism for James or Michael Hogan, father Patrick?

Wow :o
You are all amazing. I have been searching for so long and suddenly I'm overwhelmed.

This does fit in with my mother's story that Robert O'Connors wife died, possibly in childbirth.

I'm amazed at how far apart these children were born, I was hoping they were all somewhere near Athlone  and maybe that is why i haven't found them.

Thanks very much to all concerned and can I just ask one more question? Does anybody have any idea where Robert and Hannah married?

Ireland / O'Connor Brickwall and Irish Genealogy

I have 3 sisters, Bridget b 2 Apr 1865, Margaret b 5 Mar 1866 and Annie b 10 Jun 1874. All dates are from the 1939 census.
They all say their father was Robert O'Connor when they married, Bridget in Ballinasloe Galway and Margaret and Annie in Athlone.
On the Irish 1911 census Bridget said she was born co Galway and Annie said Limerick city, I can't find Margaret.
I can't seem to find their births or a marriage of a Robert O'Connor, not helped by not really knowing which town or parish to search.
Is there any way to track these people down?

Hi,
I fear my Copleys at Laverock are too early for gravestones in 1584, even though they go back to the 13th century in Kirkheaton.
Kirkheaton.info does have the Leigh Tolson book about Kirkheaton though which mentions Copleys at Laverock but I don't see Owlet

Nick,
Wheatroyd Lane is a place just off Kaye Lane in Almondbury, when I said that Kidroyd was an old route up into Almondbury, it goes from Kidroyd, up through Penny Spring woods to a place called Broken Cross on Kaye Lane. Wheatroyd is opposite Broken Cross.

Hi Nick,
I also think that Martha North and John Cockin are my ancestors through their daughter Sarah.
Like you I got bogged down because there were just too many possibile Marthas.

In case it's any help I can tell you a few of the places that I know of that the Norths lived.
Bank End farm, Dalton but right on the boundary with Almondbury

Quarry Hill, bottom of Almondbury,Somerset Road, Penistone Road area and on boundary with Kirkheaton

Cold Royd , Dalton but border with Kirkheaton

Almondbury Bank, Kidroyd, Moldgreen possibly same dwelling or very close to each other, on boundary Almondbury and Dalton which is Kirkheaton parish

The fact that I have found three separate North family connections shows how common the name is in my area.

Hi, I live quite close to Kidroyd, now just a few houses off the junction of Somerset Road and Longley Road. I believe that it was originally all the way across to Ravensknowle Road and was a main road from Dalton up to Almondbury.
I happen to have Norths on both my parents sides and I believe that they go back to about 1584 on Forest Road/Bank End Lane which is only a short distance from Kidroyd.
