It might help to print out the image on paper and write in the words on top.
Sometimes this can be helpful to see the word construction and therefore easier to decipher.

Newbattle is a village just South of Dalkeith, Midlothian and
Carringdon is 5 miles south.

I think it’s Lintons Land Armadale
It’s written as one word with an apostrophe.
The last letter is definitely a ‘d’

Brilliant Rosie, I appreciate your help.
I assumed it probably was, it just seemed an odd word to use ‘occupier’.
Thanks again

Staffordshire / ‘Occupier’??? Hillfield Home, Hillfield Lane, Stretton

Please could someone clarify for me what the term ‘occupier’ means on the above mentioned 1969 death certificate.
I’m assuming it means ‘manager’ but it seems an odd description to me? If the place was a care home.
Why wouldn’t they have used their job title ?

Thankyou Rosie.
Not quite sure when it closed but it seems to be a covid testing centre at the moment.
Appreciate the info.

I have just received the death certificate for my Great Uncle who died age 71 in Hillfield Home, Stretton in 1969.
A quick internet search seems to indicate it was a care home but is no longer.
Please could anyone give me info about it.

Was it a council home ? Did it specialise in any particular type of care ?

He apparently didn’t have good health as he was gassed during the war.

The informant a Doris Cadman was listed as ‘occupier’ ? Does this mean manager ?

My mother has no recollection of his death which she would have remembered as he died just before Christmas and was buried on Christmas Eve.
I think he may have estranged himself from his family, he was buried in a communal grave.

Just trying to fill in some detail

Scotland / Re: Scotland's People, Ancestry, FamilySearch etc: which to use?
« on: Friday 03 September 21 13:23 BST (UK)  »
I did some research for a friend whose family of weavers went from Ireland to Scotland then England.
The birth certificates for the children born in Scotland were particularly useful as they stated where the parents were and when they married in Ireland so knew where to start looking.

There is an excellent guide at the beginning of the Scotland forum page on ‘how to get the best from Scotland’s People’
There are ways of sleuthing so you don’t burn through your credits.
Good luck

It’s actually headed ‘how to optimise your Scotland’s People search’
also read ‘where to start with Scottish research’

Good point GR2, I didn’t think along the lines of ‘Guilds Titles’
