Armed Forces / Re: Life in the military question

Thank you all so much for your lightening quick replies!
She was not of the same class or connected to the military in any way at all as far as I can tell, although the pub scenario sounds likely!

Armed Forces / Life in the military question

I’m so sorry if this is a strange question but I know absolutely nothing about military life.
Trying to piece together some family history so please excuse my cryptic question...
This would be post WW2. What would be the most likely scenario for a military person of very high rank, stationed in their native country, to meet and have a relationship with a (younger) person totally unrelated with the military?

Australia / Re: Census lookup help please HIGGINSON

Thank you so much everyone - I'm very grateful for all your efforts 😁 I'm pretty sure this is our Charles Higginson. It's quite a complicated and sad story (as they often are) ... so now I'm going to take this all back to my friend and see if they want me to continue with the English Higginsons, and also whether they would like to take the Ancestry DNA test- which has been very successful for me!

Just to add we were also told he may have been in the Air Force so that fits too! 😁

Guys thank you!
The only info I've had to go on is that he was born early 1900s (1905-1910 maybe?) probably in England, lived in Sydney, fathered a child which he chose to have no contact with (who I am doing this search on behalf of) and he definitely had a wife by the mid/late 1940s and it is unlikely they had any children as they were looking to adopt. I do not know the wife's name so could be Myrtle?
The ages all fit with the info you have kindly provided and also the lack of any other recorded Charles Higginsons in that area and time.
I shall have to keep digging and check out the English connections you gave me.
Thank you.
😀😀😀

The Common Room / Re: Incorrect trees

Thank you Linda_J, msr, Jebber

I have not really made any of my research public in case it gets "hijacked" but at the same time I feel i could be preventing myself from making a valuable connection or helping another researcher.

Susan, I think I would definitely contact the large tree owner - names are one thing, but photos and your original comments are entirely different.
