It's an old browser problem, coupled with an old OS problem. New computer time me thinks

Technical Help / Ancestry missing gallery
« on: Thursday 27 October 22 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone else had a problem with Ancestry.
A week ago I had problems with Ancestry and on their recommendation cleared my cache.
Today I went on and although thumbnails are visible I cannot see anything in my gallery. Ancestry advise me to use Chrome, which I don't want to as it throws out my Mac, or clear my cache again.
I wonder if anyone else has had this?

Thanks for that information.
She married a John Smith Cleveland, who also had ancestry in the area from further back (early 19th century), though Cleveland seems a more elusive name

Wondering if you have any information on my wife's Great grandmother Margaret Mary McMahon. She was born in Drumconrath, Meath (according to records) in 1869 to James Joseph McMahon and Mary Meade. She was in Manchester England in 1901

Staffordshire / Re: Shutlane Head
« on: Tuesday 15 February 22 09:57 GMT (UK)  »
My Bourne ancestors were brickmakers in Shutlane and originally came from Madeley.
First recorded is Thomas Bourne of Shutlane (b.1708) and his brother John Bourne of Shutlane (b. 1711). Their father was Thomas Bourne of Madeley Heath, brickmaker. Details are in swynnerton and Madeley parish records. My direct ancestor Thomas Bourne, son of John (b. 1738) moved to Stoke and became a potter. The will of Thomas Bourne of Little Madeley, Maltster dated 1790 mentions William Hewit of Shutlane regarding a debt of £82. (This Thomas being the son of Thomas Bourne of Shutlane b. 1741)
Stafford Archives have documents relating to court accounts of Thomas Bourne of Shutlane digging a pit and getting clay from the highway and thus spoiling the road in Shutlane dated 1728.
Shutlane is now a small hamlet but evidence can still be seen of clay excavation at one section. It is now a wood with signs of quarry activity

My take on this thread is a) If an online tree claims their ancestor is Prince/princess of something then unless they are a Duke or Dutchess themselves they have some exlaining to do. b) if a document such as a parish record says Harry Smith married the Princess of Sweden in Walsall then I would still want more corroborative evidence to prove somebody back then wasn't telling fibs.

Curiously Botteslow falls outside the listing which only covers Penkhull, Seabridge, Clayton, Shelton, Hanley and Fenton Culvert. However this may be because it fell outside the remit of Thomas Allen who instigated the compilation.
It should also be noted that ages given in the listings may not be wholely accurate and there are gaps where unnamed individuals were not recorded
