Your Dad, Fred, is my husband's brother.  Violet is alive and well.  For more information please contact me by email with "Violet" in the subject line and I will be more than willing to exchange information with you.  If you cannot get a message to me here for my email address please talk to your sister about her visits with Sherry, Ed's daughter who has my email address and I am sure Sherry will be more than willing to give it to you.

Thanks john-p.......this could well be the family.   Just the 1871 Census has me puzzled as I have Elizabeth not getting married to James Prutton until 26 Dec 1874.    If she had been married prior to Prutton would she still be married by her maiden name?

Also if Sarah were an inhouse servant I am assuming that was why she does not show with her family and shows with the household she is serving instead?  Was it common for older women to live away from their families for employment?  I think I need to check into commonalities of lifestyles of that period.

Thanks again...MJ

I see this is an old thread but maybe someone is still watching:

Does anyone have any information on Elizabeth Tansley ( I believe born 1848 Ickleford, Herts?) married to James Prutton (b. 8 Aug 1855 Biggleswade, Arlesey, Bedfordshire) on 26 Dec 1874 Ickelford, Herts?

I would like to know more about her.  I believe her father may have been Thomas Tansley but no idea who her mother is, her actual birth date, death date, siblings, etc.

Elizabeth Tansley is my husband's grandmother and we know nothing about her.

Her mother's name would even be helpful.

Thanks....MJ

Thank you in advance for you offer of lookups.

Could you please have a look for the following PETTERS family members to see if any are buried there?

Malcolm Campbell Petters b. 1873 Kurrachee, Bombay
his wife Alice St. Clair Petters
his children:  Phyllis Enid Frances Petters b. 1904 Dehra Dun, Bengal, India
Percy Cyril Campbell Petters b. 1906 Dehra Dun
Alice Maude Elsie Petters. b. 1907 Dehra Dun.

I don't have any death dates and believe they were probably buried in Dehra Dun.

You might come across other Petters ( I have Malcolm's father, mother and siblings names but thought this would be a good start.  If you come across any Petters I would be thankful.

Also a name I believe is associated with the Petters is Leiderhelmand.

Bernard:  Do you by any chance have a link for that?  I would like to see if there is information on the Griffiths/Akerman family there.

Thanks Hack on the information about the registers.  I was enquiring if it was possible to do a physical viewing of the information.  Now I know such an action is not possible.  Will refrain from requesting lookups from indexes in the future.

Rest assured that everyone specifically named is known to be deceased.  Unfortunately for my kids this interest in their heritage and ancestors was not awakened while anyone was still alive to ask!!

The best scenario would be if there ARE any living relatives out there that recognize these families or are descendants of the named persons, that they would be interested in contact and a sharing of information on common ancestors.

Oops...just reread my posting and want to make a correction:

Kathleen Akerman's sister, Orontos, married Dilwyn Griffiths in 1949.

Caroline Wyatt's sister, Dorothy, married Kathleen Akerman's brother, Frank.

The Griffiths, Akerman, and Wyatt families seemed to have intermarried and, according to information passed to us, the Ackerman and Griffiths families adopted illigitimate children born to Caroline Wyatt.

John Griffiths died in 1982 in British Columbia Canada.  I only found out by phone call from my sister's mother in law who saw the notice in a local newspaper in a town some miles away.  I don't have a copy of the notice so am not sure of his exact age.  John taught my brother's soccer team in Maple Ridge, British Columbia in the 1970s and I know he was older than my father so I am guessing he was born about 1920-1925.  John and Kathleen emmigrated to Canada in the 1950s after adopting two boys in Wales.  Their adopted son, Kevin John, was born in 1949 in Ely, Wales and died in 1999 in British Columbia, Canada.  Both John and Kevin died of cancer, and Kathleen died of ALS ( Lou Gherig's Disease).

Kevin's biological mother was Caroline G. Wyatt (d/o Thos Wm Wyatt and Gladys May Gasher). Caroline's sister, Orontos, married Dilwyn Griffiths and we believe Dilwyn and John might have been brothers.  The Griffiths / Akerman marriages both took place in Cardiff.   John + Kathleen's in 1945 and Orontos + Dilwyn's in 1949 ( Orontos was a widow).

My children would like to know more about the family if they can.
