Hello Ros
That was an incomplete reply from me, wasn't it?
The fact is that despite the amount of information we have about John Jenkins of Northill, Cornwall, then East Stonehouse, Plymouth, we do not know when or how he arrived in Victoria. His marriage to Sarah Ann Kemp is our starting point. She is probably the daughter of a convict lady from Scotland, but her stated parents on the marriage certificate aren't necessarily her true parents from Van Dieman's Land.
The fun of family.
Thanks again
Kevin

Hello Ros
That's my Jenkins family, but not my tree. I don't have a tree but have heaps of stuff on all branches of my families and my wife's. I worked for years on the Jenkins mob but more recently a nephew took an interest and stretched the family no end. It's probably his tree you refer to.
Nice of you to show an interest.

Thanks Judith
Your help is appreciated.
If that is the John I'm looking for he may have gone to SA to try to locate a married sister, but she had moved on by then.
Still wondering what the Melbourne notation indicates.

Me again kevnjan.
The Burlington was carrying Government passengers to SA, I believe. Do you have any idea why the comment Melbourne appeared beside John Jenkins' entry.

Thank you Cando
I was hoping the BISA might give more detail, but that's pretty typical of my lot.

Australia / John JENKINS
« on: Thursday 16 February 12 20:45 GMT (UK)  »
A John Jenkins was aboard the "Burlington" which left Plymouth 28 October 1856 and arrived Port Adelaide 13 Feb 1857. John was a 19 yo miner from Cornwall. The note at the end of his entry says "Melbourne". The reference for the Biographical Index South Australia is 837/3.
Can anyone provide more detail please?
