Lancashire / Francis or Frank Devine 1851-1861
« on: Monday 13 December 21 14:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
Im looking for the guy above but he cant seem to make up his mind what his name is, or where he was born.
Francis was born about 1844 ish in either Lancashire or Ireland. I have him as Francis Devine aged 30 living in Ormskirk Lancashire in 1871, b. Bolton Lancs, with wife Alice and 4 kids (John, Mary, Francis, Robert). 1881  Francis Devine aged 37 with wife Alice living in Tyldesley Lancs with 8 children, born Ringley Lancs. By 1891 he was calling himself Frank Devine aged 50 with Alice and the children, but his place of birth has changed to Ireland. 1901 is the same, Frank Devine aged 60 living in Tyldesley with his wife Alice again born in Ireland.  Francis /Frank Devine died in 1904 Lancashire.
Also i dont seem to be able to locate a marriage for Francis/Frank to Alice. All the children are registered under the mothers maiden name of Darlington, the oldest, John Devine being born in 1862. Any help on this is  much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Cheshire / Re: John Poole-Bigamist or not

Regarding the 'wife Sarah' on the 1871 census with John Poole. I have found a marriage in 1868 for a John Poole to a Sarah Watson, John is down as a widower. The only difference being on this cert Johns father is Abraham Poole, when John married Isabella in 1860 his father was Ralph Poole. From the information that Haywood has just put up about Isabella marrying a Price, i wonder if they both seperated and put widow/widower in order to remarry.
Thankyou Haywood for the info, going off to have a look now xx

Cheshire / John Poole-Bigamist or not

Hi all
I am looking for possible marriages for the above person. John Poole was born in 1840, registered in Nantwich Cheshire, mmn was Potts.
I have him aged 1 in 1841 with his parents Ralph and Sarah Poole living in Barthomley in Cheshire.
1851 aged 11 he was an apprentice Tailor with a Billington family in Barthomley. Heres the interesting part, John married an Isabelle Campbell in 1860 in Farnsworth Lancashire, on the 1861 census they had 1 son Thomas George Poole aged 1 month, Isabelle was down as being born in Scotland (Argyll).
Then Isabelle and son Thomas totally disappear and by 1871 John Poole is with a Sarah (possibly Burslem) as man and wife living in Birmingham with their child called Edith Poole aged 8 months.
Then in 1881 John is with a different woman again, this time her name is Rose aged 27 and again living as man and wife. They have Edith with them aged 10 from the 1871 census, a child called Jannet aged 9 (which i havent checked for a birth yet) but they have 5 children together, Maud, Sidney, Myra, Minnie and Harry.
What i need help on is,
1. What happened to his first wife Isabelle? Did she die or did he leave her?
2. Did he marry Sarah from the 1871 census, and what happened to her before 1881?
3. Did he also marry Rose from the 1881 census.
Hope that all makes sense.
Thankyou in advance.

Nottinghamshire / Mary Harrison born 1857 Bothamsall
« on: Tuesday 07 December 21 21:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
Im looking for the above Mary Harrison and having no look. She was born in 1857 in Bothamsall Notts, registered in East Retford and her mmn was Whittington. I have Mary aged 4 on the 1861 census living with her parents  John and Elizabeth Harrison in Elkesley Notts, after that she dissapears.
Mary had an illigitimate child in 1876 called John William Harrison, she had him in Gainsborough Lincolnshire and her address at the time was given as Carters Row, Beaumont Street, Gainsborough. No indication of any father on the certificate. On the 1881 census, John William aged 5 was living with his  mothers sister, Annie Johnson and her husband Peter Johnson on Carters Row, which was next to Beaumont Street in Gainsborough.
I have no idea what happened to Mary after the birth of her child, she isnt with her parents as her mother Elizabeth had died in 1865, and her father had remarried to a Jane Crooks also in 1865 in Elkesley.
So i am hoping you lovely lot could have a look for me and see if you can locate her.
Thanks in advance xx

Just looking at the witnesses on the marriage certificate and i dont know if its any use, but Clara Ferber (Florences sister) was actually living at 50 Knole Street in 1881, sadly Florence isnt with them, but William Symmonds was living at 43 knole street on the 1882 wedding cert, theres got to be something in that surely, i think William is getting closer lol x
