Thank you for merging my duplicate posts - I'm still trying to figure my way around the site! I've been quite busy with 2 other branches of the family because 1 family was coming to visit and take a look at my "stuff" and next week I will be visiting my sister in Texas & I have orders to bring the information there too! Needless to say I have been tweaking those branches so they are ready to display.
That being said, I have spent some time on the Welsh side of research! I've read everyone's posts and they are very helpful. I do have a question about obtaining the actual death records of David Davies age 60 - District - Merthyr T. - Volume - 11A page 255; David Davies age 60 - District - Merthyr T. Volume - 11A Page 307 and David Davies - Age 66 - District - Merthyr T. Volume 11A page307, andDavid Davies - Age 66 - District - Merthyr T. - Volume 11 A. I believe any of these three could be my GGG Grandfather. Where can I find Volume 11A? Thanks! Martha

For Bev - I think the 1841 census is a good guess for the Davies family. Do you (or anyone else) know what the farm's name, HENDREWYLIM, means?
As far as determining which 1882 death is the correct David Davies, I don't know how I can. I did look at several but from what I can see, they are just names on a page. I think its a good guess that he died in 1882 because he was alive on the 1881 census and his wife, Phoebe, arrived in the US on 9 Nov 1882.

Hi Bev! This is very interesting! I just checked the 1881 census you refer to. (I'll check the 1841 census later). 1881 census could be the right family for several reasons.
1. The address is the same as the 1871 census.
2. Elizabeth Higgins, age 21, (who is listed as a lodger on the 1881 census) could be the same Elizabeth who is listed as the 18 month old daughter on the 1861 census AND the 11 year old granddaughter, Lizzie, on the 1871 census.
3. The 1881 census shows Elizabeth's birthplace as Pennydarren. The family lived in Pennydarren during the 1851 census (last name was Davis) and on High St. during the 1861 census (which I think is in Pennydarren.)
4. The one conflicting piece of information from the 1881 census is the birthplace of Phoebe. It shows ditto marks under Pembrokeshire for David's place of birth. All other census records show her birthplace as St. Clare, Carmarthenshire so I guess the ditto marks could be an error.
How does one find the baptismal records for a person? Do you need to know the parish name? How can I find that out?

Thanks for your response! You have found the correct family! It is Pembrokeshire and I thought the village was Penarth for a long time. But after looking closely at the handwritten entries on several census records (David, Phoebe, Charlotte, Esther, Hannah & Rachel Davis on the 1851 census), the same family with the last name spelled Davies on the 1861 census, Charlote Davies on the 1841 & Charlotte Davis on the 1871 census, I think it is Penrith or Penrydd and not Penarth. Penrydd also makes more sense since David was from Cylde (or Clydey). So - would baptismal records for the children be in the parish of Penrydd and David's baptism be recorded in a parish in Clyde?
Since Phoebe was from St. Clear in Carmarthenshire is it reasonable to assume the the marriage took place in her parish? How does one go about finding out which parish to check?
