No...we are in Kent, UK. Our family goes back to Michael Hiscock, b.1754 in Hilperton.

Hi Vivian,
Our family goes back to the Hiscocks of Hilperton. Our line went to London with John Marks Hiscock in the 1830s. It would be great to swap info.

Thank you very much for going to all that trouble to look. I think we have probably gone as far as we can for now on the Hoy side. We started having a look at the Houchins and I suspect they will be equally problematic! They have used the same names over and over again! Thanks again.

Very many thanks for your suggestion. It makes perfect sense but we haven't had any luck with either Matching or Hatfield! Or anywhere else in Essex!!

Essex Lookup Requests / John Hoy: Magdalen Laver Baptism Look-up about 1812
« on: Monday 15 June 20 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the original images of the Magdalen Laver baptisms?

We have been looking for a baptism for John Hoy in Magdalen Laver around 1812. We have looked on www.familysearch.org, but there is a gap in the images between 1808-1812 when we believe John Hoy was baptised.

He later went to marry Mary Guy. There is one baptism which comes up in 1813 for a John Hoy, but this is mis-transcribed and is actually for a John Aley (with parents David and Sarah), who had other children around that time.

We believe John's parents are John and Mary Hoy, nee Houchin who were married at Magdalen Laver 6/3/1812. It is just possible that John could be baptised as Houchin, not Hoy, if he was born before the marriage.

Many thanks,

Sarah

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Sarah Perry birth c.1814 Fyfield/Beauchamp Roding

Thank you very much everybody. It has certainly shown that there were a lot of Perrys living around the Fyfield/Beauchamp Roding area! Our stumbling block now is discovering Henry Perry's parents. He might have been the one from Great Hallingbury, although he would also fit age-wise as one of Abraham Perry and Mary Sutton's children. I think we will have to look at the microfiche parish records at the Essex Records Office for this (we live in East Kent) and also go back on Maria Thickens' line (who married William Henry Perry). We have found her parents - Thomas Thickens/Thickings and Rebecca Loyns, married in Beauchamp Roding 24/05/1778. It is great to have several new lines of enquiry! Sarah

Thank you all so much! We thought we had hit a real brick wall on the Perrys but it certainly looks like our Sarah was the one born to William and Maria. We had suspected this might be the case but had failed to find the baptism. There certainly are a lot of Perrys around that area and trying to untangle all the connections between them is challenging! Sarah, after she married Joseph Clark (her second husband), was living next door to William and Letitia Perry and now I will have to see if I can find out what relation they were to her...perhaps the two Williams (her dad and the one next door) were cousins? Thank you so much again...I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Thank you both very much. It is so difficult to work out which she might be. William and Maria seem the most likely parents as she says her father was William and the name is carried down through the family. Maybe they had Sarah a couple of years after Mary Anne.
