Ack! Apologies for not acknowledging these replies - and thanks to you both for looking into this. Since posting my query I realized that I could get the basic details on FindMyPast without a subscription - and it turns out the online tree referenced is mine!

US Lookup Requests / Patrick DOYLE and Margaret BRICE married in NYC 1855-60
« on: Tuesday 25 July 23 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone find a record on, say, FindMyPast, of the marriage of Patrick DOYLE and Margaret Ann BRICE/BRYCE at, presumably, a Catholic church in Manhattan sometime between 1855 and 1860?

Patrick DOYLE and Margaret BRICE were the parents of Jane DOYLE (later ERHARDT) - born 1864-67 - and, I think, William DOYLE, who was born c1866 and seems to have died between the two 1870 censuses.

Incidentally, I think Patrick's brother William DOYLE was married to Margaret BRICE/BRYCE's sister, Mary Anne BRICE - sister of John and Henry BRICE - who died 15 May 1854. They bore Jane DOYLE - born 14 Aug 1851, baptized at St Columba, Manhattan, 24 Aug 1851 - and Bartholomew DOYLE - born 4 Jan 1854, baptized 15 Jan 1854 St Columba, Manhattan, died 21 Jul 1874.

Hope this isn't too convoluted...

Ancestry's ThruLines suggests that Thomas LEAVEY and Bridget KEOGAN were my 5x-great-grandparents - based on the research of a distant cousin. But I'm not yet sure if this is correct as I've found few DNA matches with LEAVEYs or KEOGANs in their trees. I could be wrong, though.

My 3x-great-grandmother was Rose ROGERS (said to be the granddaughter of Thomas and Bridget), who was born in the early 1800s, married Thomas DOYLE, and later lived in Aghamore Upper, Columkille/Colmcille Parish, Longford.

Have you taken a DNA test? So far I've identified about 30 descendants of Rose and Thomas who are DNA matches on Ancestry, so genetics might be able to confirm your suspicions - that is, if my cousin's theory is accurate.

Feel free to PM me for more details!

I'm not a relative or descendant of Howard M. Jenkins, but I've been interested in him for quite a while as he was a family friend of the artist-author Howard Pyle (1853-1911), so just in case dukewm reappears on this thread I'd be happy to trade notes here or by DM.

Europe / German death record 1938: Translation/Transcription needed
« on: Wednesday 09 March 22 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - Can anyone translate and transcribe this death record of Carl Heinrich Thomas SCHÖNHERR? I get the gist, but I want to make sure I haven't missed or misunderstood anything. Many thanks!

Much obliged for the clarification.

Do you think that wording regarding the father - "als Vater ist angezeigt Joh. Gottlob Schoenherr, ein Schmied" - and the lack of detail regarding his parentage and residence - implies that he was not present at the baptism and that his name and profession were supplied (perhaps erroneously) by Johanna Rosina?

Wait - now I'm confused: am I to assume that Johanna Rosina died after giving birth to Carl Gottlieb? And that the "weihl[and]" refers to her and not Andreas? Is it possible that the line breaks in the transcription make that point unclear?

Thanks for bearing with me!
