Douglas was the son of my great-aunt, Harriet Bickley (aka known as Kathleen).  I would love to exchange information.

Anne Downward nee Thelwell died in 1843. William was then a widower, but in 1846 married a widow Elizabeth Davies nee Mathews who already had two sons by her first marriage. William and Elizabeth had two more sons Charles and James. Descendants of James are still in and around Whitchurch in Shropshire. Neil

Thanks for this and the other information Neil. I will have to go back to my husband's tree and marry it all together

Regards Claire

Thank you so much for the link Jillrose. You have so much information, it must have taken an age to put together. This will prove invaluable.

Hi Neil - I didn't have a Thomas Downward in my tree as son of William.  You mention a first marriage for William which, again, I didn't know about.  Could you possibly let me know the date and name of his first wife which would enable me to sort it out.

Thanks Claire (in a very cold and frosty Wales)

Thanks Trish.  I knew he'd moved to Trevethin as that is where he remarried.

I have come to a brick wall in my research.  My 4th great grandfather, James Nicholls, was born in Sandford in about 1798.  According to the certificate for his second marriage his father's name was John Nicholls.  James was living in Sandford in 1841 when his occupation was given as "baker" and I've traced him to Wales where he married  for the second time in 1853.  I would love to find out more about his parents which may help me to move forward (or should that be back:))

Thanks Yvonne.  I'll check out this connection as I think Prees is mentioned at some point.
