Canada / Re: SHIPPING LISTS 1901-1908
« on: Thursday 18 September 14 14:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi Carolyn,
Sorry I haven't replied to your message earlier, but been away for a few days.
Afraid I can't find any connection between our Ada Elizabeth's Roberts.Mine was born 4/8/1877 in Reading, Berkshire. Lived in Staines before going to Canada where she married David E Reddekopp and entered the USA in 1908.She returned to UK on holiday in 1927 and stayed with her brother John Charles Roberts in Westgate on Sea, Kent.
Sorry I can't be of any help.
Regards,
Bob in Oz

James Brazier(Born Oxfordshire C1837) and Wife Alice Ann (Nee Brown) Migrated to NSW (Unassisted Passage) on SS Orizaba. Arriving Sydney 20/8/1892. They settled in Tamworth. Had two children, Martha Emma (1881) and Robert James (17/10/1883. In August 1886 Alice and children returned to UK onboard SS John Elder. Cannot find any further reference to James. His name has been taboo and Family wouldn't talk about him. Robert James was my Uncle. Appreciate any advice where to find out about James after 1886.

Armed Forces / MISSING SOLDIER 'SCOTS GUARDS'
« on: Wednesday 18 July 12 14:01 BST (UK)  »
I’m researching my Johnston Family and have come to a complete halt over one Soldier.
William Johnston, born C1857 in Chelsea.
In 1871 he was at a school in Totteridge, Hertfordshire.
1881 at Chelsea Barracks 2nd Battalion Scots Guards. Listed as ‘Drummer’ and married.
His father, James Simmers Johnston and Brother, Henry were also in the same Battalion. I have obtained their records from the Regiment’s Archives, but they advised that they had no records of William. I can’t find any record of him in further Census’s. I know he was still alive in 1914 as I have a photo of him and wife at a relative’s wedding in 1914 at Adderbury, Oxfordshire. We know that they had a Son, also named William who from other family member’s memory was a manager at David Greigs Grocery Shop in Maidenhead and later Brixton. Spent quite a lot of money ordering marriage certificates for William Johnston in those areas with no success.
Would appreciate any information or suggestions that could help solve this mystery
