Essex / Christopher Simons abt 1750-1826
« on: Friday 05 April 24 15:49 BST (UK)  »
He married Sarah Brommel/Bromley 19 Oct 1773 at Gt Holland where he farmed. They had two children Mary Ann 1776-1810 & William 1778-1826. On 29 Sep 1778 at Gt Holland he was a witnesss at the marriage of Reuben Simons & Susannah Peck. I can find no record of his baptism in Essex. Simons were farmers in Elmstead, Frating & Brightlinsea, but there is no trace of Christopher or Reuben in Essex. Any ideas?

The Card I tried to post is Crown Copyright so it wouldn't appear. J.W.Webb born 30 April 1911 Dovercourt, Essex, England to George Wm Webb 1885- 1927 & Elsie Annie née Labrum 1890-1971.Joseph was a Staff Sergeanr Royal Army Medical Corps No. 7260909. Taken prisoner 25.12.1941, I don't know where. Released from P.O.W Camp at Nagoya 2.9.1945. On his Japanese Index Card it states Destination of Report Mrs F.M.Webb 65 New South Head Road, Vaucluse, Sydney, Australia. She is unknown to me.

The Destination of Report on the attached POW Index Card. Is to Mrs F.M.Webb, in Sydney Australia a person that I can't identify as a relation. Joseph was released 2.9.1945 & after that I can't find a trace of him. If he made it home to Dovercourt,Essex, England there is no record. Any ideas?

Essex / Re: Essex place names with unusual / unexpected local pronunciations?

My father was born in Beaumont cum Moze in 1914. The locals pronounced it Bemmont he told me. This is shown in the Dovercourt registers (amonst others) where the Beaumont family are Bemmont & Beamment when the vicar was not familiar with this variant.
